Nice Peaceful Hotel
We stayed at the farthings on a Sunday evening, when the restaurant is closed. However, there was available a cold platter served in the dining room. This was a no choice selection of the starters from the menu (Melon. Parma Ham. Tartelette. Leaves etc.) Although this was Ok it was slightly dissappointing for the price. We had a standard room, which was pleasant but could do with some modernising. The breakfast was excellent with locally sourced ingredients, and the owner/manager and his team charming. On the whole this is a lovely place to... more
Great Ambience
Great ambience We stayed at The Farthings whilst visiting family nearby and wished we could have stayed longer. Lounge area very comfortable with papers available to read at leisure. Bar well stocked and great atmosphere. Room was large, lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Bed very comfortable with quality bedding. Bathroom large and well stocked with toiletries. Breakfast was substantial and cooked to individual requirements – well worth waiting for, especially the local eggs. Our room was... more
A lovely surprise
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful small hotel on 31/3/07. The stay was a brief one night stopover en route to Barnstaple, and we are both delighted we chose this venue. Our room was large and well appointed, with a nice lounge area, ideal for our Weimeraner. The little touches (Soaps, shampoos etc) were as you would expect from a more prestegious hotel and the general level of warmth from the proprietor was beyond the typical. We enjoyed the roaring open fire as we read the papers and had a fantastic... more
watch out - they might fiddle you
I stayed here as a solo business traveller, arriving tired, late on Valentines night after a long drive. It was difficult to park my car, the carpark being full of Valentine diners. I had to move it into place when someone left later that night. The person I took to be the manager asked me if I wanted to eat, the restauraunt was stopping service, but the dining room remained busy with romantic couples. I said I would like something light, perhaps a tray. What did they have? He said they had chicken, they had ham left. As starters they... more
If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to come!
We stayed at this hotel for two nights, having read the reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel is well placed only a few minutes from the M5, very convenient for most of Somerset, and set in a very quiet village. We were offered a very good deal (mid-week, low season) of £120 per room per night. We asked for a quiet room, and were given Rowan, which is the only room on the top floor - huge and with views over the garden. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to come! The room was beautifully decorated, with a very comfy king size... more
A comfortable stay in peaceful surroundings
We have just got back from a night's stay at the Farthings Hotel and the experience overall was good. Upon arrival we were taken directly to our room, called Fern, which was situated on the first floor at the front of the property. It boasted a wooden sleigh bed, very clean ensuite bathroom and all the typical hotel features, tea / coffee facilities, TV, hairdryer etc. All very pleasing. The hotel seemed quiet although we were told they were full that evening which suited us well. We spent the day exploring the area before... more
Superb
We stayed overnight on our way to Cornwall and had found this superb hotel by chance by searching the web for hotels around the Taunton area. What a superb place it is, so friendly and we were made welcome as soon as we walked in. Our room was lovely and had lots of little extra touches sadly lacking in most hotels. The restaurant meal was excellent, and we were only sorry that we couldn't stay longer. Would recommend highly recommend it.
Great place to stay
We stayed one night at Farthings on our way to The Eden Project and had a great time. The hotel is in a lovely location and is very peaceful. We had an amazing suite (Rowan), and the food and friendliness of the staff were superb. I understand that John the chef has been there for 6 months, but the two owners, John and Kevin have recently taken over. All I can say is that they are all doing a grand job. I am VERY critical, but I can honestly say that I had no complaints whatsoever. Trip Advisor member Milton Keynes.
Fantastic Farthings
Staying in The Farthings hotel feels just like staying in a country house. All the rooms are uniquely different. The one I stayed in had gorgeous bay windows, huge sofas, a massive bed and a spiral staircase up to the bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!!! As soon as you walk through the front door the builiding seems to hug you. The staff are really friendly and cater to your every need. The food is extremely good and plentiful. Most of the produce is grown locally and tastes fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to... more
Fantastic!
Have just returned from a 4 day stay at the Farthings with family, we had an amazing time and got some really good R & R there. We spent a couple of days out and about in Taunton and Bristol with another out rambling in the blackdowns which was really great fun. The hotel is located about 3 miles from Taunton, just off junction 25 of the M5 corridor around 30 miles or so south west of Bristol. We stayed in house every night as the restaurant was superb, the chef produced some truly magnificent delights. The staff were attentive... more
