Hotel Talisman

The Hotel Talisman is a hidden gem in Ponta Delgada. It is quaint and quirky. Some rooms can be noisy, the first room we were given was suite no. 228 which is above a private apartment and opposite a bar,very large and comfortable if you are hard of hearing. The hotel were very happy to change our room and offered us a choice of rooms, we chose 205 which is a lovely room which has a little balcony and a view of the sea. This should be a four star hotel not rated three. We went on a Sunvil deal which was great value for money (sunvil are excellent travel people) The hotel is very comfortable and staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble. The restaraunt serves both a great breakfast to set you up for the day, and really good dinners of an evening. The Azores is a great place to see an island before being spoilt by tourists, so much too see and explore from the hot springs to the volcano lakes. I stayed at the Talisman recently as part of a last-minute Sunvil holiday package deal. I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is right in the heart of Ponta Delgada and it is easy to access everywhere you would wish on foot within minutes. The common decor is beautiful and my room (a twin for sole use) was spacious and clean. The bathroom had been recently decorated and though small, was more than adequate for my needs. Whenever I visit the island I stay at the Talisman - I love the place. The location is perfect, the staff is friendly and accomodating, the rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The place just exudes charm. The decore is breath-taking in the older part of the hotel - an Art Deco masterpiece of glass and iron - a few years back they had some problems with the glass roof which leaked during heavy rains but frankly that just added to the charm of the place. Earlier there is a negative post on this hotel. I'm not sure that the poster of that review stayed at this hotel. The Talisman was done over several years ago. It has been immaculately done in an Art Deco style. Very clean, polished building. Beautiful views of the adjoining public garden. Excellent breakfast. Mature and courteous staff. Plus a great location right in the center of town.

My husband and I stayed in Hotel Talisman 2/1-16/1 2006.We were contented with the room.The bathroom was good,except there was no outlet in the floor.Even though we drew the curtain when we took a bath,you could be sure that the water had splashed over the floor.I think we were cautious.So every time we have had a bath we mopped up the floor with the towels and they got wringing wet.Luckily we got clean towels every day.I wonder,what the staff has thought about us?Speaking of staff,I think most of them were friendly.I think the breakfast was... more

I just read about this hotel and who it was some time ago. I think the breakfast is very very good, plenty of food and good quality, exceptional deli orange juice. The rooms are good and the price, around €100 for double room is more than OK.

The Hotel Talisman is located in the city centre of Ponta Delgada, the capitol of St. Miguel. It is an older building which must have been charming years ago. We’ve stayed there in 2005 for two times one night because we had to change the airplane for visiting the island Pico. To cut a long story short: stay away from this hotel!
