Exceeded our expectations
We stayed here for one night on 22nd July after being rained off from our camping trip. We could not get in to the Coylumbridge until the next night and were dreading our stay here after hearing so many bad reviews. We were greeted at check in professionally and the girls were very cheerful. We were allocated our room, and though we couldn't have access until 4pm which we thought was very late, when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. It was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modern. We didn't eat at the hotel, but... more
Very Noisy, Avoid at all cost!
We have just returned from 2 nights B&B at the Academy hotel in Aviemore and we will not be returning to this hotel. While we did enjoyed Aviemore and the surrounding area, this hotel is extremely noisy at night. We have 2 children under 10 and the noise from the ground floor bar and games room reverberated throughout our first floor room. On both nights the noise did not finish until after 11pm, which is unacceptable if you have had an active day and are planning the same the next day. We did complain about the noise but the... more
Decent option
Overall its a decent hotel As been said before the Academy is the least attractive accomodation in in the resort and the decor and lifts etc look a bit dated but the family bar is small which can provide a decent atmosphere. The pipes do groan a bit during in night which again has been said before but overall the inside of the room is fine. The rooms have ppv internet and films on the tv which gives it a slightly more modern feel. You can also checkout and view your bill from the tv which lets you keep a handle on the bill when charging... more
Very, Very average
Just returned from a 3 night stay in the Academy hotel. On the plus side, the hotel was very clean and the staff (who were obviously migrant trainees on minimum wage) were very helpful when they were not at the end of their 18 hour shift. On the down side this hotel needs a lot of work. The room temperature was either sub-tropical or artic and the heating was switched off during the day. The beds were exceptionally small (roll over and fall out) and the pipes clanked in the early hours of the morning. It was virtually impossible to... more
Okay - but not as great as thought would be
This was my second visit to Aviemore and last time I was there I visited a friend who was staying at the Macdonald so I had really wanted to go back. We stayed in the lower priced building - the academy but could still use the facilities of the other hotels in the resort. The bars in the academy were closed and the family room was like a sports/working mans club with kids toys in. There was also a cockroach on the floor in this room. This didnt stop us having fun though as we used the giant connect 4 and air hockey quite a bit. We also... more
Very Poor
Stayed at Academy Hotel in Easter holidays with my husband and 2 kids. Room tiny and pretty basic, food in the Food Court was awful - not hot and looked like it had been there since the day before. None of the staff could speak English and we couldn't even manage to order a drink with our lunch. There is a Starbucks if you can call it that, all I got was a mug of cold foam. Avoid this place like the plague there are many better.
More like student accomodation
Our family were very dissappointed int he Academy Hotel. We did not feel that it provided good value for money. On the plus side, the hotel was clean. On the down side, the room was far too small for two adults and two children. We could not walk around the 4 single beds they had crammed into the room without scraping the edges of the beds or furniture. And, walking through a dark, painted cinderblock hallway reminded me of cheap university accomodations. I've been in far nicer and more spacious travel lodges. Staff were not... more
Good value Hotel
Stayed during Feb half term excellent value good hotel. Good sized family room with enough space for parents and 2 toddlers. Good location central to Aviemore
Nice clean and modern hotel, good staff
We were put onto the Academy after a disasterous attempt at another hotel in Kingussie. The Duke of Gordon had messed up and lost our booking and luckily, the Academy made room for us. (We were 6 hours from home after driving nearly 400 miles). The hotel was clean, modern and the staff were great. The location is spot on, as close to the centre of Aviemore as you can get, within easy reach of the Cairngorm. We will most definately return. Shame about the foodcourt breakfast but at least you're not tied down to the breakfast... more
3 night DBB Deal - family of 4
Found the Staff at resort very pleasant and obliging. High standard of cleanliness, areas tidy with beautiful plants. Food plentiful, well presented and selection to suit all. No experience of queues, Food Court well run. Checked in for the Academy, and never having been to the resort before, thought that too much was assumed - e.g. where to go, vouchers for meals, It was the second day before we got into the swing of things and it was the night before we came away before we knew about the Osprey Arena (where indoor entertainments are... more
