Courtyard by Marriott Port of Spain

I had to go on a training in Trini in late May and the training venue was the Courtyard by Marriott. Naturally, the hotel was my choice of accommodation for reasons of proximity. I had issues right from arrival! I called the hotel to send a car for a pick-up and after an exasperating 11/2 hours of waiting filled with 10 minute interval phone calls on my local phone that I had roamed, a car finally came. My husband and I decided to take a weekend break from the daily humdrum of day to day life so I chose the Courtyard Marriott for our stay. Though it is mainly catered to business tourists on weekends many local residents do choose the hotel for a getaway and it is well situated for such. On checking in we were given a very nice orientation of the hotel with a welcome package including room key card. Rooms at the Marriott are very spacious and fully equipped with every amenity. Port of Spain is not a tourist destination. Stayed at Courtyard for 2 days before going off to Suriname & Guyana for a few days. Courtyard was a clean new hotel, great staff, next to Movie Town which is a safe place to eat at night or go to the movies. If you are going to stay in Port of Spain this is the place if you want the top end of POS. This trip was a work trip but I was there for 12 days. The first room that I was in (Room #312) had an ant infestation so I was moved to another room temporarily (#320). I wanted to be moved to a room at the back of the hotel (which is a lot quieter) but they had none that day so I waited until the next day to finally get settled. The management were great and wrote a nice note and sent a gift basket to my room(#337). This was an excellent response and showed very good customer service skills. We needed a hotel close to the airport...there are none. The closest got frightfull reviews so we chose the Normandy one night and the Marriott the last leg of our trip to Grenada. By far this is the place to stay. They are building something closer to the airport...what a shame a $30.00 cab ride...both ways just to connect to your next flight. Trinidad never again!

With its ultramodern, spacious rooms, free internet access and friendly, helpful staff I have no hesitation in recommending this place. The mall next door allows you to easily grab a sandwich or a meal without having to rely on the hotel. For Caribbean citizens, like myself, the weekend Caricom rate is very attractive. Breakfast is a tad pricey though. I have stayed at both the Hilton and Kapok but now stay here.

This hotel has a good king suit which the photo online does not provide a true representation. The staff is very friendly and the hotel has a quiet relaxed atmosphere. Mario Benjamin

Will miracles never cease, Trinidad is definately on the rise when it comes to the tourist industry. On my first visit to Trinidad in 1998 I remember asking where do people stay when they come to my husband a native of Trinidad and he showed me the Crowne Plaza as well as the Famous Hilton.. Second year staying here for Carnival. Much was done with interior decor since last year. Restaurant had improved in quality and types of food offered, but still a bit overpriced. Rooms are clean and spacious. The nicest I think in all of Port of Spain. Hyatt to build an all-inclusive, which will give them a run for their money, and maybe lower their prices to be more competitive. Adjacent is a mall, with fast food, movie theater, etc. Need a cab though to hit the downtown--a little far to walk safely.

I stayed for a week in September 05 after having stayed at the Hilton in August 05. No comparison. Hilton is a prison with over priced food. Mall next to the Courtyard is a Godsend for solo traveller..(Ruby Tuesday's, Burger King, Pop eye's Chicken, Subway, Asian resteraunt, full size movie theater, shops) Hotel offers Free HS internet, a nice little snack bar in the lobby. Prices are expensive, as you would expect, but if the company is paying...Room service was good, and prompt. Staff was friendly and helpful and I felt safe.... more
