Grand Jersey

Able to take advantage of very reasonable flights which helped the weekends expediture on more important things, like taking advantage of some serious hospitality in the quite unique champagne lounge. The Grand Jersey as this hotel is now called has undergone a major refurbishment and so the interiors are quite modern. The rooms are fresh yet its difficult to understand why nothing has been done about the lift which looks and feels very dated. Once inside the room, every effort has been made to make the room pleasant and small details have been thought about. We had a family holiday ie: Nanny, Grandad, Mum and Dad and son. We had two suites on different floors, Nanny and Grandad had the Lily Langtry Suite which was very nice, Mum and Dad had the Walter Reliegh Suite (or however you spell it!) which was even nicer, both rooms had separate lounge areas, with the WR suite having a dining table too. WR suite had a jacuzzi bath and two toilets, great when you are getting ready for dinner all at once. My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights 4-7 May 2007 (Bank Holiday Weekend). We had read the mixed TripAdvisor reviews before booking, but the third-night-free offer made the price alright. The location of the hotel is pretty good. It is near the beach and esplanade and approximately 10 minutes walk from the high street and shopping area. The sheer mixture of reviews on here suggest that the Grand is great or poor and not much in between. The hotel is in the middle of a huge refurb, having the rooms and the public areas upgraded. It is aiming to rank it's standards to 5*, and my experience is that the refurbed areas are on the way there - the non refurbed rooms still look like a 80's Trust House Forte! The Jersey Grand is sold on it's website as a piece of history.The added facilities are given considerable prominence. This part of the selling is probably right.The hotel boasts of an indoor swimming pool,gym,steam baths and a whole range of similar activities all free. The rooms themselves are a big disappointment. They look as if they were last redecorated in the beginning of the 20th century. The wallpaper is old and peeling and the room dingy. We stayed at the Grand Hotel earlier this month and had a super holiday. Our room was very comfortable with everything we needed and more. The breakfast was fantastic with a wonderful choice. The pool and leisure facilities were very good. In particular the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. You got the impression that they were a really happy team who took pride in their work. The Grand Hotel in Jersey is going through a 'renaissance' since it was sold by De Vere. This was our first stay there and it was fascinating to see the 'before' and 'after' sections of the hotel as it goes through its tranformation. Our room was still in the 'before' category - chintz and traditional country hotel style decor. But we had a view of the 'after' rooms - all Art Deco high style.
