Domina Home Royal

The hotel is what use to be a time share- the rooms are like suites with one big room and a bedroom. Yes there is a balcony, but it was not very clean. We requested a room with 2 twin beds and what we were given is a room with a queen and 3 fold out cots. The cots were less than desirable - and not at all comfortable - in asking for another room we were told that all their rooms are this way, I heard others complained at the desk as well regarding the same problem. We greatly enjoyed the Domina Royal hotel for three nights in May 2005. We had two nice balconies adjoining our room, with a great view. We also enjoyed the views from the terrace. We didn't eat at the hotel, but our room and the general area was clean and well cared for. There is a strong fresh scent in the air from the jasmine and orange blossoms nearby, which is also nice. What fun we had!! I highly reccomend this 2-3* hotel. NO gym, although they advertised one, and they ended up charging us for the kids, despite a "free children" ad. But overall the staff was very friendly, the rooms are nice, and clean. Breakfast is good, better than the bread and coffee that many people have in italy, but not quite the buffet that i have seen in northern italy, ie tuscany. Very child friendly. We have just returned from a week driving the Amalfi coast where we stayed in Sorrento and Positano. It has to be said that Positano is definately our favourite. The village is beautiful. As to the hotel the Royal the rooms are very clean and comfortable (only a shower no bath) although a bit dated and the staff very helpful. The hotel is like a maze so it is fun trying to find your room after a bottle of wine on the terrace but we had an amazing view of Positano, the coast to Praiano and the sea. More than anything, the staff here was tremendous! Extremely friendly and helpful. The room was simple, but very clean. Good water pressure, but only a shower, no tub. This hotel has all the potential in the world to be fantastic when it is fully open...that is my only complaint. We arrived the first week the hotel was open this season so they had not cleaned the pool, no big deal b/c it was a little too cold to swim but our balcony overlooked it and looking into a pool of mold and debris was not pleasing to the eye. Also, they had not finished their spring planting or finshed up cleaning the other areas of the property from winter (dead branches, leaves, etc). Other than those small compalints we loved... more

I stayed in this hotel in May 2002 when my father and stepmother got married in the town hall in Positano (which is just a little way up from the Hotel Domina Royal) and it was wonderful. Amazing views, fabulous location and beautiful room. I stayed in one of the junior suites, which consisted of a lounge area, double bedroom, big bathroom with double shower, small kitchen area and a balcony overlooking the pool. Wow, what an amazing hotel! This full service resort is nestled into the beautiful hills of Positano. A previous reviewer shared my sentiments for the steps into town but it was worth it. The hotel sits about 400 steps up from "centro", maybe a 6 or 7 minute walk down the stairs. After our shopping, we took the bus that left from the center of town and dropped us off right at the hotel's doorstep. Our room was bright, clean, and airy. This was a great hotel! Very clean, helpful staff & large balconies with absolutely gorgeous views! The pool was large with views of Positano & the sea. A great way to spend the afternoon after walking up all of the stairs! Remember that you must bring your own towel as there is no towel service for the pool. I would highly recommend this hotel, though be advised that the hotel is about 400 steps (private stairway) above the main shopping area in Positano. Arriving at the Amalfi Coast, you become quite amazed by the narrow and winding roads which trail round it. Fresh from my first Italian driving stint in Rome, we buzzed down the autostrade, albeit a day late to the Domina 4* Royal Hotel.
