A great family holiday
I've never done one of these before, but I thought I had to write something. Me, my husband and our 12 year old twins have just returned from a great holiday staying at Windmills apartments. I read a couple of reviews on tripadvisor just before we left and I was very worried. The comments seemed awful. I can't imagine that these reviwers were refering to the same place or people. (On Holidaywatchdog the reviews are good and that was our experience). We stayed in an apartment with the boys sleeping on sofa-beds in the lounge. The room was a bit basic, but it was clean and tidy. We found everyone really friendly and had a lovely time. I think Windmills was a really nice place to stay and I wouldn't let a few nasty and quite incorrect reviews put you off. We will certainly be going back next year.
not good
Hi, just reading some of the reviews on the windmills apartments. Having lived in Protaras area for nearly three years, I thought that this might be of interested to people that are thinking of staying at the Windmills. It is a family run hotel complex but the family that run this place are the biggest crooks on the island. They took money from me and i cannot get it back a very frustrating experiance that has been going on for two years. Please do not give this family your hard earned holiday money there are a lot of other lovely places for you to stay. Name I cannot give.
Worst dump I have ever stayed in.
stayed at the Windmill apartments for one night only (thank God) Having stayed at another hotel round the corner we booked into this hole as we had a early morning flight and our previous hotel could only offer us a room till 6pm. We only met 2 horrible people in 2 weeks and they were both at the reception of this "hotel" They were very rude and were a disgrace. Would never go near this place again. We stayed in a studio which should be demolished. It was`awful. There was a camping stove to cook on and the bathroom was filthy. There was also bare wires hanging from the lights .We saw better hotels on a day trip to Famagusta and they had been bombed by the Turks in 1974!!! If you are thinking of booking this hotel then dont. The place is a dump and the reception staff are a disgrace. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
absolutely awful
I've just returned from a week holiday at the windmill apartments with my partner. I booked the holiday in the knowledge that the windmills was a A class set up with all the amenities and facilities to make an outstanding holiday. How wrong can that be? When we first arrived, we thought that the driver was stopping for a drink as the apartments are situated right behind the attached main street bar (not like its pictured in the brochure) We were then lead through the stale smelling bar to the hotel lobby were we collected our room key. I presumed that someone was going to show me to our room but instead one of the many rude staff pointed outside and that was it. We then had to search for a room as if was somekind of greek game (Is that the service you expect from A class apartments?) After finding the room (it only took 20 minutes, that must be a record?), we realised that we'd either made a big and expensive mistake or we had entered some kind of time machine that had sent us back to the year of 1979 (just before the Windmills was built). The room was awful, the beds must have been over 25 years old, self catering - i don't think so (does a camping stove constitute S/C), air conditioning that you have to pay for (A class - i don't think so) the place is expensive enough without having to pay for cold air, an electrical socket in the bath! (what?). Basically these rooms had not been painted/updated/maintained/finished! since they were half built back in the 1980. Also, I asked to use the gym and got a reply from one of the staff that bemused me (basically there is no gym! neither is there a tennis court like it stated in the brochure). The only positive that I could take from the holiday was, Protaras is a very nice area, with outstanding beaches. However, apartments like this should not be in operation or Thomson should not use them, as they are spoiling the reputation of the operator and also the area. Windmills is not an A class neither is it a B class, please do not give these people your hard earned money, it really is not deserved.
brilliant time had by us both
my fiencce and i have just come back from our two weeks holiday at the windmill apartments, and even though we had a17 hour delay in manchester it didnt spoil our holiday .at the windmills the owners and staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms always kept clean , the entertainment at the windmills was excellent as was the food ,would recomend to any one .as we went self catering we also ate at other restaurants and found there to be plenty , we would like to recomendthe following , kartanas.noufaro,of course the windmills great food either at night or breakfast.for entertainment either stay at the windmills or just a short stroll away is the waterloo for a great night . but as you will find out you wont have to move from the windmills to have lots of fun ,good food exellent serviceand a fantastic time. steve & shirley
dated room
On first impression of the studio we stayed in was like a time warp it is very 70s and doesnt appear to have been touched since it was built the handrail was loose and unsafe,we did not expect a Marriot style hotel however a lick of paint wouldnt go amiss, also the bathroom was discusting, apart from these points it is situated central to all amenities.Would we return?NO. Prefur Pafos end of the island. You are to restricted as to where you canand cant go it to close to borders.
Great break in the sun
This was my first visit to Cyprus, as I usually holiday in the Balearics, so I didn't know what to expect. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. We booked this holiday a week or two before we travelled and got a really good deal. Our apartment was very basic and dated but spotlessly clean. We were on the ground floor facing reception and the bar area so there was a lot of noise at night from the entertainment but this was bearable. What wasn't bearable, though, was the temperature - we had to go to reception in the middle of the first night to pay for air conditioning so that we could get some sleep. The staff were fairly friendly but not overly so. Having said that, the maid picked up my friend's pyjamas bottoms with the bedsheets by accident one day and the staff did all they could to return them to us before we went home. They'd even been washed with the laundry! There are plenty of lovely restaurants and tavernas in the area - we were spoilt for choice - and two beaches nearby. All in all, a great holiday.
windmills is the best
We went to pernera for a week, has such a brilliant time so came back two weeks later. The staff at windmills are excellent, they made our holiday fab !! If you go say hello to George, Fish, Titch, Dorota, Patricia, Alex and Craig.
never again
I was appalled by the attitude of some of the owners of the windmill. I watched in horror as the large lady, who is the wife of the original owner, helped herself to the food as she bought it to ALL of the tables. My wife is greek and as a speaker myself, they were unaware my wife and i understood everything. They smiled sweetly at the tourists but they were rude and derogatory about you as they talked to each other Some of these things were very offensive. The employed staff were brilliant. Most of them English and most very friendly; especially the shop staff. The owners wives were brilliant and helpful as well but everything was too much trouble for the men. I witnessed the owners talking down quite severely to two members of the staff but noticeable the shop girl with the large assets was always treated with respect. The entertainment was good. Some of the pirate DVDs shown were a bit rough but what do you expect. I would never visit this place again even if it were free. With so many good hotels in the area and so many genuine people I would rather give them my trade.
Great Holiday
Me and a couple of friends arrived at the Windmills not knowing what to expect after we had read some other reviews, but we were actually pleasantly surprised. It was clean and tidy, the kitchen was very basic, only 2 gas rings a kettle and a small fridge freezer, no toaster or microwave, there was no TV or radio in the apartment at all, so i would recommend taking a radio / CD player for background noise. There was enought hot water every night for a shower for us 3 girls, and you know what women are like in the bathroom! The beds were fairly comfy and there was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe. The staff are mostly friendly especially the maid, she was lovely. The pool is not huge but good enough to take a dip after sitting in the sun, the beach is a 5 min walk away and is really lovely, sea is nice and cold but the sand is boiling hot. Plenty of bars and restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. I would deginitely recommend staying here and would come back.
