I last went to Windmills apartments in September 2008. I went with my partner and we had the best time. Although the rooms were basic, they were clean and our beds were changed every other day. The pool area was nice and clean and we had a good laugh with the bar man Pete who worked in the pool bar. The entertainment at night was fantastic with various shows on every night. The Hypnotist and the drag Queens were the ones to watch. There is a nice little beach about a 10 min walk but we also enjoyed walking into the centre of Protaras to the Fig Tree bay beach which is the best beach i have been on in cyprus. You can also catch a bus into Protaras if you don't want to walk. I became good friends with the owners and the people who worked there. It is a child friendly hotel and i have booked to go back in june 2011. I have now got a child at 18 months old and i think this is the perfect place and hotel in cyprus to bring her on holiday. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone.

Could not find any fault with the apartments or the service.Staff were very helpful and friendly. Apartments were cleaned every day, and sheets and towels were changed every other day. We went half board, breakfast was a self service continental buffett, and evening meals you were given a choice of 2 starters, main meals and desserts. The pool was cleaned daily as was the pool area. The location had everything to offer. Plent of bars, supermarkets, gift shops, restuarants. The beach was roughly a 5 minute walk. The Windmill bar offered entertainment every night and also offered a different movie each night to watch. If I decide at any time to go back to Cyprus, the Windmill apartments will be the first choice on my list.

having been to cyprus on 6 other occasions(paphos) we decided we would try a different part of cyprus after seeing the windmills apartments advertised, big mistake!! as a family of 4 with 2 children age 7 and 5 we were told the area was great for kids,we were 5 min walk from the beach and the hotel offered a seperate kids pool and also play area. we booked though thomas cook, and we were told we were booking what was shown on windmills website sc apartment with fully equipt well maintained spacious apartment, satalite tv maid service,24 hr reception. however what we found was far from.....
we arrived with our luggage to miserible staff at reception, and were immediately told we could hire a safty deposit box at reception, and had to pay 6 euros per unit per day for air conditioning(when all you needed to do was switch it on by wall) we were given our keys and told directions to our apartment, which was at the rear of the complex away from pool etc. we spotted the kids play area on our way which was diabolical. when we arrived at our room after walking past the smelly bins and smashed glass, we found a filthy room, with patios that didnt lock properly, and brown sticky stuff covering the kitchen area which was meant to be fully equipt, we had 2 small camp rings, no grill/oven no toaster nothin. our fride was filthy and was warm rather then cold, freezer didnt work, we immediatly asked to be moved, but were told that the only other room wasnt aviaible untill the next day, when we went to move we found the toher room, had cockroaches nad the air con didnt work, so we had no choice but to change back. we were applauled to be told that the tv we were told we would had was in main area of bar to share, and we could hire a toaster!! when we also went to change room we left our luggage to go look and came back to find the maid in our room, she handed me some shoes back which she,d taken for god knwos what reason?? i then noticed our video camera had gone,i asked her and she said she didnt understand,my partner got a bit angry and said he was going reception she then said ohh video camera and went and fetched it back. later in the trip we came back to find my little boys 2 pairs of new shoes had gone, and all the childrens medicine,my little boy has many health problems and i brought the medicine purposly, we complained at reception but the snotty staff didnt care, the head cleaner came and told us she would sort it out and get it back, we didnt hear anything else. the reception was often left with children in charge a little girl around 7 years old by herself, she also was working in the shop, the shop on site which is very over priced, along with the resteraunt, and bar. the entertainment seemed good but you could smoke anywhere on the complex, pool side, bar, resteraunt, kids daily movie, etc so we couldnt have our kids go near!! the main reception are was clean and tidy as were the toilets, but they had no locks on doors, the pool was a disgrace with many quests joking you,d get pregnant if you swallowed the pool water with was filthy, the ladders into the pool and to get out were dangerous and nearly coming away, the kids pool would often have no water in and the grid on bottom would float away leaving a hole for kids to fall down, the tiled flooring was also smashed around leaving holes to fall, and the stairs had holes in coming to the pool. the outside toilets were a digrace, the owner once asked my 5 year old to put the grid back on the kids pool!! we met many other familys and single couples all of whom were appauled, our toilet when flushed sounded liek a fog horn, another familys toilet over flow each night, bedding smelt musty,as did towels,we had work being done in the apartment above which was very loud. the rep for olympic was useless and tried to over charge for days out, the beach was about 15 mins walk not 5, the centre of protaras about 40 min walk down the path, which you had to walk down roads etc to get to first, with no footpath. not suitible for prams or wheelchairs. the bus stop outside was 1 euro each for adulys free for kids took you to protaras main strip , agia napa etc. the water park was a good day out 32 euros for adults, 18 for kids. the dancing fountians in protaras were pathetic and 15 euro each. most resteraunts offered same poor food, nicolas tavern is a disgrace food came swminng in grease, we found the best resteraunt with no smoking indoors zucchinis, its set abck in main protaras strip lime green building, lovely staff and the best food. the fresh house resteraunt just right from windmills was vey nice and cheap. romeos tavern was very nice with bbq nights greek dishes, plate smashing and cypriot dancing etc. kids play area. don carionies italian was nice and kids eat free, overall though poor holiday only good thing was the weather, we hired a car went to main supermarket which is very cheap 30 cent bottle of huge water were as shop locally was 160 euro, big difference, car hire across road by pizza hut we found cheap, we would never go back here we along with alot of other people we met are making complaints. if you want to go to cyprus go to paphos, x

We stayed for 1 week at the above apartments, they was a party of 7 of us, 2 children and 5 adults. We all absolutely loved the place and the apartments, best holiday yet! In the perfect place, very short walk away from the protaras town centre and within reach of more than enough lovely resturaunts and bars, food delicious everywhere we went. Definately deserves more than a 2.5* compared to some we've stayed in! The windmills apartments have their own supermarket, resuraunt, take away aswell as many other features. Fantastic plce!
- Advice: Fantastic for families.

We have just come back from Windmills Apartments in Cyprus and are looking to book again next year. Although very basic accomodation, we didnt mind because we only got showered and slept there. We ate out all of the time, the food at the hotel is loveley and not expensive. A cooked breakfast for 2.95 euros. cannot go wrong. Brilliant entertainment on a night, what more can i say, we carnt wait to go back!!!

Not too sure really about this one. Yes, it's a place to stay, the kids loved the pool and the staff seemed nice enough - but all in all, nothing to write home about.
We arrived in the evening and were seen to pretty promptly, given our key and directions to our 'apartment'. When we opened the door, we thought it was ok. But just ok. We've stayed in better and cleaner and much nicer presented apartments. The main room consisted of two sofas already made up as beds for the two little ones, a small balcony area and a kitchenette. There was a standard size sink, drainer, cupboards and fridge. On top of one of the counters was a two ring 'cooker' - like one of those small camping stoves but without the grill. We had a kettle, 2 large plates, 2 bowls, 3 saucers, 4 small cups and saucers, 4 glasses, 1 saucepan and 1 frying pan. There was also basic, and I mean 'basic' cutlery in the drawer. We were told that we could hire a toaster! Although we booked self catering, we did expect a little more 'self-catering' facilities than what we got. The bedroom consisted of fitted wardrobes, dressing table, two single beds pushed together, bedside tables. There was an air conditioning unit in each room - you have to pay 6 Euros per day each for one week. A bit steep, we thought. The apartments have a supermarket, bar areas, restaurants and laundry facilities.
Like I say, these apartments are ok to get your head down - as long as you check for cockroaches first - we had a couple of little visitors every so often. They aren't the cleanest, they are quite shabby looking and have a 70s feel about them. The reception area is the nicest part but after that you've done. My kids did enjoy the pool - although I didn't see it cleaned once while we were there.
The apartments are in Pernera. It's a small area but quite nice. You can walk into Protaras along the boardwalk - at night it's a beautiful walk. We caught the bus back - but just be aware, we were told they run every 20 mins at night but it was usually around every 45 mins. Single tickets cost 1 Euro. If you get a taxi, make sure you discuss and agree a price before you get in the taxi. One taxi driver tried to charge us 10 Euros from Protaras - we knocked him down to 6 - which is pretty reasonable as he dropped my sister and her husband off at their hotel first then took us to ours.
We went on two trips - Troodos mountains and The Black Pearl - I can honestly recommend both - and girls, if you like Johnny Depp - you're in for a treat!! And the kids loved it too!
Overall, it was a great holiday - the accommodation was a big let-down though.
- Advice: Cyprus is wild and beautiful - but stay somewhere else.

just got back from a 1week [27/7-4/8/10]self catering hol at the windmilld apartment, very relaxing holiday, weather fantasic, here's just a couple of pointers which may b of use if you are going here
1-food and drink a bit pricy local beer 2.50euro cocktails 4euro meals start abot 8euro for one course you can get a basic set 3course menu for 10/12euro
2- theres plenty of places to eat Italian/chinese/steak houses to name a few
3- beach gets rather busy cannot move on it over the week ends
4- there is a chap who does suba diving/snorklleing at the apartments for a reasonable price hubbie and son went said it was well worth the money 15euro each for snorklling
5-air-conditioning is a MUST its 6euro PER UNIT per night so if you hav a one bed apartment (2units in it} which we did it works at 12euro per night BUT hav a look at the unti first as i discovered you can over ride the unit by switching it on at the wall, wait a few mins, when the light comes on just flick the panel down on the front and press the buttons on it, some times it was the left button twice sometimes you just held it in it works like a tele does wen you hav lost the remote control or you could take a multi remote control from home to see if that works i save myself 70euro
6- some of the staff are a bit rude to younger people, but over all the staff were quite pleasent.
7- the entertainment in the evening at the windmill is first class dont miss the robbie williams tribute and drag artist
thats it hope some of this info helps HAPPY HOLIDAYS

from the moment we arrived it just went from bad to worse, they didnt have no idea who we were so we had to wait for a key to a room because they had gave our room to someone else, they were rude and unpleasant and we didnt get an apology for this mix up. when we finally got a room that was not what we asked for the electric was faulty and the lights kept switching off and 3 of us had to share 2 single beds as the bed-settee was like sleeping rough on a park bench.we reported these problems and were promised they would be seen to immediately but nothing was done the whole week.At night the bar was very lively and entertainment was varied but then the bin wagons turned up emptying bottle bins at 3 in the morning. The pool area wasnt bad but we found a better complex just 10 mins away with friendly staff who allowed us use of the pool so we spent the last few days of our holiday elsewhere.we would return to Protaras but not to windmills.
- Advice: protaras is decent but our apartment and staff were a let down

Stayed here for 10 nights from 18th July 2011 - 28th July 2011 with my boyfriend on a self catering basis. Booked the holiday expecting basic accomodation which is what we got.
We arrived quite late in the evening and were seen to at the reception area straight away where we were asked to fill out a form and then given our key. We were just told where our block was (block 7) by the lady at reception and were then left to find it by ourselves. Obviously we had never been here before so had no clue which way to go. A gentleman working there then asked one of the young children to show us to our block, which we thought was a bit strange. The child showed us to our block but not our actual apartment, so we spent a further 10 minutes going up and down the stairs looking for our room only to find that our apartment was up some stairs at the side of the block, it was pitch black and no lighting so we didn't even realise it was there. The room was basic, which was fine because that's what we had paid for and don't usually spend much time in our room on holiday anyway. The decor was quite dated but seemed to be clean enough. Although we were self catering we always choose to eat out, but if we did want to make food in the room there aren't many facilities to do so. The main light in our room didn't work, we never reported it but on our last day I also heard someone else complaining that lights in their room weren't working. We paid about 55 euros for our air conditioning and 16 euros for the safety box which is kept at reception.
We spent most of our days by the pool which was a decent size, but the pool water is so strong with chlorine so if you're wearing a white bikini or shorts they will turn yellow! The staff seem to just leave you to it by the pool and there is no lifeguard on duty. Most days there were still sunbeds available by 11-11:30 so no need to rush to make sure you get one. We ate breakfast in the restaurant most mornings too, the food was fine but the staff weren't very happy or friendly!
The beach is about a 10 minute walk away from the hotel, but isn't very big and I was disappointed because I have stayed in Nissi Beach in the past and the beaches there were so impressive, but the beaches near this hotel are nothing to shout about.
The hotel is amongst restuarants, bars and pubs, but we found the area of Pernera too quiet and a bit boring. Would have preferred to stay somewhere a bit more lively so went into Ayia Napa and Protaras a couple of nights. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and costs 1 euro for the bus which takes you through Protaras, Napa and to the waterpark. The bus does get so busy though and is supposed to come every half hour which isn't always the case especially at the weekend. The entertainment at the hotel in the evening was really poor, the only one worth seeing is the Michael Jackson act.
We were really disappointed with the staff at the hotel. They really seemed uninterested and irritated whenever you ask them something. The family who run the hotel have children who just seem to run around all day, they were often using the computers or on the pool table messing around when we wanted to use them. They seemend to just get in the way of everything, even at night when there were entertainers on stage the kids would keep running across and into the DJ box. One day my boyfriend was in the bar watching the football and there was a full blown argument between the hotel manager and one of the bar stuff, they were shouting and swearing at each other in front of everyone, then straight after that argument he witnessed another argument with the hotel manager and another memeber of staff. Doesn't seem too promising if the staff aren't happy!
If you book the holiday through Olympic Holidays the rep is hardly at the hotel. We weren't told about any welcome meeting and she didn't come to check on us to see if everything was ok. She comes into the hotel for about half an hour a day. Not very promising if you have a major problem or query!!
Finally on the last 2 days we found 2 cockroaches in our room, so we were glad that is was time to go home!
Overall I would not recommend this hotel and would not come back to this area of Cyprus. It is more suited to families and people who aren't too fussed about nightlife, but even then I think there are better hotels you can stay at for the money you pay. Had a good holiday because we made it enjoyable but was not helped by Windmills at all!
