Windmills Hotel Apartments Reviews

Submitted By: Miss S RhodesProtaras itself was nice. The beaches lovely, the people helpful, except for some windmills staff. Where can I begin about the prison like rooms I strongly recommend that nobody book this resort, ants were a major problem they were on the floors in the bath in the draws on the so called kitchen work top!
The word that springs to mind is totally gross, the owners have totally spent more money on entertainment and bars than the accommodation and to charge for air con is a total rip off! They should close it down or refurbish the rooms please do one or the other!

Submitted By: Miss Vicky SThe pool area was lovely and we spent most of our holiday there. The staff were very friendly and we made friends with the young English staff who had gone over there to work. Paralimni was a quiet area with enough bars and nice restaurants, however we did venture into Ayia Napa one night (about 10 CP) and Protaras another (about 5 CP). The evening entertainment that the apartments provided was very good. It was by far the liveliest in the area. Bar prices were also reasonable.
Overall, we had an excellent holiday and I would recommend this accommodation.

Submitted By: Beckie CooperThe apartments are around 400 / 500 meters from a sandy beach (Pernera bay) This beach is small, narrow and filled with sun lounges but fine just for somewhere to sunbathe. A slightly better beach is the Protaras bay one - a 30 minute walk from the apartments or a 10 min bike ride - although we found more interesting, more deserted and nicer beaches on our stay (see further on).
We'd recommend you get bikes (bicycles not motorbikes) out for the whole stay. This allows you to explore the area of paralimni (not so touristy) Pernera, Protaras and Agia Napa with ease. We got ours from 'Phyl Tours’, which is on the right hand side of the main road between Pernera (where the windmill apartments are) and Protaras. They cost us 2 Cypriot pounds a day each (around £260 English pounds each) which was the best price we found.
The beaches we preferred were around a 40-minute bike ride from Windmill, past Protaras and towards Agia Napa. They are called Green Bay Beach (nice rocks to explore, although not much sand) and Konnos Beach (gorgeous sand, quite unpopulated but up a big, big hill then down a big, big hill).
Anyway, we had a lovely holiday - gets more touristy as days go by (the holiday season started 1st may but before then was quiet). Windmill apartments nice - rooms fine, pool nice and big, staff friendly, and bar good with pool table. We went out locally in Pernera and to Protaras. The Spinx bar not to be missed as you enter main strip of Protaras. We didn't stay for any of the Windmill apartments entertainment.

Submitted By: Mr M HollandElectric wires hanging out of the walls, live wires hanging down from air conditioning units (which was at extra cost, even though the Cyprus tourist board regulations said it should be free from June - august)
Broken beds, mattresses sagging in the middle, cupboards not closing properly, drawers falling out when opened.
Every room we seen was in dire need of a paintjob and refurbishing to see the least, very basic amenities and most of these had something broken, missing from them.
We asked for adjoining rooms as we were there with our daughter, her husband and 2 grand-daughters and we needed to be next to each other to baby-sit, we also asked for a quite area away from the bar noise.
We were on floor 3 in the nearest block to the bar and our daughter was on floor 2 but 8 blocks away around the corner.
I must admit when we did complain about our rooms and the distance apart, the staff did sort it all out for us in the end.
The noise from the bar entertainment was deafening and went on until about 1-2 am every morning and if the bars across the road turned up their p.a. system then the bar staff simply turned theirs up louder, unbearable, unwanted noise.
We only had one meal in the complex, this was our first and last meal in the restaurant, it was disgusting, after that we ate out every night.
I would really like to warn other would be quests to look elsewhere if they are going to this hell hole in the sun.

Everyone was really nice and the staff at the bar were really helpful....few nice bars on the stretch as well (nautillas), 4 cyp pound to Protaras and 9 cyp to Ayia Napa (which was a good night out) , so the prices weren’t to bad...overall me and my mate had a cracking holiday!

Well worth a visit, and I don’t think id have enjoyed if I had of stayed in a different hotel.
Submitted By: Mr J.S. TurnerThe entertainment is mainly poor although the girl singer, and the hypnotist are worth watching, but avoid elvis and freddie mercury.
The area is lovely, and the beaches fantastic shame about the hotel.

Submitted By: Mr M WarnerThe accommodation is basic but very clean and quite the norm for "self catering" abroad (cooking facilities 0/10 but who’s going to cook a roast dinner for a family of 4 anyway!!), there was a fridge to keep the beer cold and a small balcony to enjoy a romantic drink when the kids finally go to bed!
We were a little disappointed to have to pay for the aircon in the room but hey, when you come back from a day on the beach/next to the pool and you can see your breathe as you walk though the door it’s all of a sudden worth every penny.
The pool was fantastic, quiet enough for the kids to play and enough sunbeds for everyone (no Germans so towels only went down in the morning).
The entertainment in the bar was lively...Robbie/Kylie/Tom Jones impersonators and a Freddie Mercury who couldn’t pronounce his w’s.....priceless. You can’t hear the music from the apartment so that was a godsend.
The beaches are close so a £4 ride in a cab (which were always available) takes you to golden sands and watersports if you want it.
The food in all of the places we went was fantastic...steaks and lamb a speciality. The place that was not so good was the Pizza Hut the kids dragged us to....only to be expected I suppose! Every restaurant catered for the children...small portions of proper food or burger and chips if you are desperate!
We paid approx £50 for a family of 4 to have a fab. meal inc drinks and a bottle of wine...not cheap but cheaper than the UK
All in all.....a great apartment, great resort and nice people...throw in temperatures of 90 degrees and it will definitely be a place we consider returning to.

Submitted By: Mrs C LaphamHaving stopped the previous year at the Malama Holiday Village in Protaras we are at an absolute loss as to how Windmills holds an “A” rating. One of the beds was broken & the other uncomfortable beyond belief. Cooking facilities consisted of a camping stove with 2rings. Despite a sign in the apartment from the Cypriot tourist board stating that all “A” Class hotels should provide free air conditioning between May & October Windmills charged us about £30 per unit per week (1bed apartment has 2 units...).
If you enjoy Elvis impersonators, basic accommodation & chips with every meal you will love this resort if not look elsewhere on this otherwise gorgeous island!!!!

We made great friends with the owner, bar staff and dj. Everyone was so friendly. The pool was spotless and well maintained, pool bar man was not so friendly as the rest though.

There are plenty of sunloungers and chairs around the pool and lilos available for use, all free of charge. Poolside food was delicious, we did not eat an evening meal at Windmills as we wanted to venture out for food and return for drinks and entertainment. We found the best place to eat on our last night, it was just around the corner (Steak and Ale House) or something similar to that!! It cost £4 (Cyprus) to get to the main strip of Protaras where there were lots of different style bars and restaurants.

It was to my delight that I could see so many Elvis impersonators but less of a thrill for my partner. Windmills put on good entertainment every night, which included Elvis, Kylie, Robbie Williams, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and a hypnotist. I would not say that Cyprus is cheap for eating out and drinking but it was reasonable for what you wanted.

Take plenty of sun cream and apply it frequently, the Cyprus sun was vicious! Windmills is definitely somewhere I would return to stay and I would say it is one of the most popular places for evening entertainment so get to the bar early for a good seat.

Bus service very good and very cheap. Can’t wait to go back for my next visit.

When we first approached the hotel, my stomach sank as the sign 'Windmill Apartments’ was on top of what looked like a very busy bar on a busy street. Luckily when we got dropped off outside, we walked through to a lovely lobby. We were seen right away by a British woman who told us all about the hotel and resort.
The apartments were situated right at the back of the windmills bar and restaurant.
They were surrounded by beautiful fruit trees (banana, pomegranate and lime) and grassed areas. You even had a very friendly parrot that you could hear singing.
The pool area was lovely and clean, perhaps smaller than some would like but with the nearest beach less than 10 minutes away, who is complaining!
On the negative side, my mother found the rubbish trucks being empted in the early hours of the morning very disturbing. I closed my windows at night and put the air con on, so didn't hear a thing. One other thing was that 2 of the mattresses were stained. One in my room and one in my mothers. We advised the staff, whom were very helpful and said they would replace them. Sure enough they brought us 4 brand new mattresses (still in the packaging).
Cooking facilities weren't great and having to rent a toaster was a cheek! However, for around £300 including flights, transfers and insurance, this was a brilliant deal. It was September too, so temperatures were still in the late 30's. It’s a great holiday for couples and families alike on a low budget.
We would stay again.
