Windmills Hotel Apartments Reviews

Submitted By: Miss K OliverThe studio rooms are big enough for a couple this time we are staying in a one bedroomed apartment due to it having a separate room. The staff are nice enough you can tell it is family run they all live there and there kids are very pleasant and cause no problems.

Submitted By: Mrs A WardWe ate out all the time and found the food at the Windmills was very good. In the brochure we did not know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. The bar by the pool was opened all day, food was available in the restaurant, the supermarket was opened all day, all within the complex.
In the evening the entertainment was excellent most nights. There was plenty other eating places and bars close by. A bus outside the door to take you to the main part of Protaras, taxi 4 or 5 pounds.
On the whole we had a good holiday. Cyprus is not a cheap holiday but where is now?

Submitted By: Mr E LaingThe evening entertainment was there if you wanted it, but by sitting at the top bar, you could still have a conversation and watch the act on a big screen. Some nights were noisier than others, which could be a problem if you stay in block 1 or 2. It did not bother us, as we were normally up till 1 o'clock (local time).
Food and drink is getting dearer, but by looking out for the deals and happy hours, it is not too bad. The hotel bar prices were the same as everywhere else.
All in all, we had an excellent time; the only downer was the chaos at the airport on the way home. It took us 2 hours to get from the check-in queue to the departure lounge. It was total chaos.

Submitted By: Mrs G C ElsomCyprus seems to be getting more expensive every time we visit, the people are still friendly although they do seem to be more money minded these days, and drinks can certainly cost more in the bars there than here.
The best restaurant we found in Pernera was Il Cavaliere (Italian) the service is excellent, the staff friendly and helpful, the food superb.
Pernera beach was lovely and peaceful with plenty of water sports and places to eat & drink, the Blue Bay taverna is especially worth a visit on a Monday when they hold the Cypriot night.

Submitted By: P.t WhiteheadApart from the tired and dated apartment with dodgy handrail, it was situated in a central position. Would we go again? No. We prefer the Pafos side of the Island, as there are to many restrictions because it is so close to the border also Protaris seem to thrive on annoying Karaoke bars.
I think it would benefit by having more traditional bars etc after all It is Cyprus not Blackpool.

Submitted By: Mr K KoshiyaA bus stop right outside the apartments take you into Protara and onto Aya Napa (Trip to Fig Tree Bay is a must).
Well worth a trip.

Submitted By: Mrs E FleetwoodWe all really enjoyed the holiday and were made to feel very welcome. Windmills is a family run hotel/ apartments and all staff was lovely.
The baby pool not very ideal for young children, too deep apart from that I have no complaints and def going back next year.
Food is brilliant the rooms could have been better but wasn’t dirty.

Submitted By: Mr L MorganHowever on arriving to the complex the windmills looked very nice and clean. We arrived at 7 in the morning so were not to be seen at the welcome meeting at 10.30!
The rooms were a little out dated and for self catering wasn't the best of facilities but we were on holiday, so apart from breakfast we ate out. Bit of a rip off for air-con but as we realised another couple paying just for a remote control.
I thought there must be a switch somewhere and guess what there was, after lifting the front panel on the aircon system a nice green power button was waiting to be pressed from standby to ON! and hay presto FREE air-con (just a little tip)
As a young couple (21) we stayed up late in the local bars, our favourite being Knights Bar across the road and we have friends who run it who are the most nicest people your ever meet.
Plenty of other bars with different entertainment within walking distance, very lively place so if your looking for early nights this probably isn't the place to stay, unless you like Elvis as a lullaby!
Did not stay at Windmills for the evening entertainment but stayed around the lovely pool all day.
Only bad points were that the bin men were very early about 4am, but as we stayed out till late we did not hear them apart from one night when we stayed in.
Also the lady in the windmills shop was the grumpiest lady in the whole world but guess what, she was British so no surprise there!
One last bad point was the cleaner had a moan at me when I said to come back and clean later, as I stayed in bed for half a day with a hang over! Did think I was on holiday so why cant I sleep when I want to - never mind!
Apart from that we had a good time met a lovely couple and would highly recommend the windmills to any YOUNG couple looking for a fun, cheap and sunny time.

Submitted By: Miss N DavidsonOn arrival we were given keys to a studio apartment with 2 very small windows a bit like a cell in darkness although we had booked a 1 bedroom apartment. On complaining we were then given more keys for a 1 bedroom apartment. We were greeted in the room by a near to death cockroach which had been splattered on the wall and left on floor to die. Although we were led to believe on booking that this was a 3 star accommodation I would not give it 2 star.
This is supposed to be a self catering holiday. You only get a camping stove with 2 rings (how are you supposed to cook a meal on two rings with 1 big pan) also the kettle is not electric just pour water in and wait for whistle. The paintwork looks about 10 years old the door was made up of several pieces of wood to hold it together and the old air con unit was still on wall with wire cut and hanging off. The bin men come every morning at 4am which is a nice wake up call. The pool is un-inviting and the children’s pool is a joke (notice how the brochure does not have picture of children’s pool as it is way too deep for a two year old).
The staff couldn’t be bothered as it was last week of season pool bar was shut all week and another couple were tutted at for ordering a pizza in middle of day. All I can say is I would never return this is a genuine review if you are used to nice accommodation pay extra and take your kids somewhere worth going to.

Submitted By: Miss A BlackieThe resort was very quite and peaceful for us and the beach is only a 5 min walk from Windmills. Beach very nice and there is a little donkey there which our daughter loved.
Also water sports if you fancy it.
We went to the water world water park in Ayia Napa - this was a fantastic day out. I would definitely recommend it.
If you fancied going to more livelier pubs etc you could always take a bus ride outside Windmills to either Protaras or Ayia Napa.
Would definitely return to Cyprus again. We loved it and the weather was fab!

Submitted By: jack danielsI wasn't impressed with the room, it was over flooded with ants & as I was sleeping in the living room, the ants managed to crawl on the sofa bed which was not pleasant, in my suitcase over the worktops etc. The room was outdated, and freezing during the night, we didn't have to pay for the heating, but you do for the air conditioning. The hotel was quite quiet and there was hardly any entertainment, apart from Knights pub across the road, which was fine. We did go to a night club in Protaras and we headed out to Ayia Napa 2 times during that week.
The hotel staff were pleasant enough, apart from one of the ladies who ripped us off by charging us for a meal we already paid for & didn't take it off the room, (I know she done it on purpose) I got into a heated argument with the manager but my friend just said forget it & ended up paying extra.
We will always go to Cyprus, however I doubt if we will go to this hotel again. I think we'll head to Paphos next time.

Submitted By: Mr R BywaterA couple of months before we went away, we all read various reviews about Windmills, Protaras and Cyprus on the internet, and frankly the 2 females of the group were worried about what had been written. Well I can assure you all here and now that our experience at Windmills was nothing like the majority of the reviews - it was brilliant! We are all in our 20's (some of us late 20's) and the apartment, complex, entertainment, resort and whole holiday was excellent.
Some people seem to bang on about how the rooms aren't good enough to self cater in (very true - only 3 plates, cups, and a gas hob (and nothing to light it with!)) but that didn't matter because we went away to relax and not to cook. If you want to self cater, than don't go here, but if you want to enjoy every minute, have a laugh with the staff and remember the experience for the rest of your life then do.
Take my word for it, you won't regret it. I have even taken the time to write this, when usually people only write them when they hated the experience. So it must be good!

Only a 25 minute walk to Protaras along the beach which is lovely.
A few musts, Ayia Napa Waterworld, Fig Tree Bay, Nissi Bay and an italien Restaurant called IL CAVALIER which is in Pernera, expensive but gorgeous.
Excellent holiday however would not go back, £1000 for a week spending money for two people is too much.
