Colindale Hotel

Staying in the Colindale feels a bit like you're staying in someone's home. You come home every evening and there's Barry, the owner, sitting in the same spot on the sofa in the cluttered little lounge room, feet propped up and and his dinner plate resting on his belly. There's a giant cat scratching post-apparatus next to him on the floor, and scratching boards on several of the steps of the main staircase. We have just arrived back home after spending a lovely long weekend away in Torquay at The Colindale Hotel. Both my husband and I cannot rate the property and welcome that you recieve from Barry Greenwood Smith highly enough. We arrived after a long drive to a warm welcome, a great pot of tea ( the best cuppas i've ever had in a hotel) with biscuits and a fuss off Thai his cat. Bank holiday coming up and we were worried there wouldn't be anywhere nice to go for the weekend... how wrong we were!. Very straightforward to reserve a room at the Colindale via Barrys website , even quicker just give him a call. The place is absolutely spotless and a room with a nice view for a reasonable rate. Comfortable and relaxing in the evenings, with a few nice pubs nearby to go to in the evening, safe in the knowledge there will be a slap up breakfast for you the morning after at the Colindale. I fully endorse the previous enthusiastic reviews. This is the perfect small B&B, in a superb, quiet location. Mr Greenwood-Smith is a highly professional but welcoming host, and our regrettably brief stay was rounded off by the best British breakfast we've had in many years.

Luxury with the personal touch is what you'll find at Colindale. Barry, the proprietor does all he can to make your stay special. The cosy lounge is beautifully decorated in stylish antiques, browse through the fabulous collection of books whiclst you drink your gin & tonic, bought to you on a silver charger. In Torquay for a Conference and having booked into the overpriced Grand Hotel for two nights decided to spend an extra night in the area. Wanted to get out of The Grand and stumbled across the Colindale. If I had appreciated just how good the Colindale was I would have stayed there for the entire trip. Wonderfully warm friendly and elegant atmosphere and we will certainly stay there again.

My wife, daughter and I have just spent two nights at the Colindale Hotel, Torquay. It is, without doubt, one of the most pleasant and comfortable hotels I have ever stayed in. Barry is a marvellous proprietor - efficient and very helpful. His breakfast selection is better than most of the 5-star hotels I have stayed in in the past. I highly recommend his scrambled eggs.

We have lost count of all the hotels that we have stayed in Torquay and this in our opinion is the best. The service is top notch, cleanliness unsurpassed and the delicious breakfasts are something to which we really look forward. Throughout the hotel the tasteful decoration and the attention to detail are very impressive. We are already booked in for two weeks in June and are now counting the weeks. The hotel is also in an excellent situation being close to the beach and Riviera Centre.

We have just spent 4 nights at this wonderful Hotel. Barry is the most wonderful host and makes his home feel like yours too. The rooms are bright and clean with lovely little added features that you never get in a larger hotel. The breakfast is something else, a wonderful choice and all freshley cooked. We cannot praise it enough. We liked it so much we are going back again.

Quickly, Barry the proprietor is exceptionally nice. The hotel is done out in high quality B and B style (some would say kitch) (but to an exceptional standard). The breakfasts are wonderful, coffee is great (as is the tea), bed is comfortable, showers are hot and when you get back to your room in the evening the bed is nicely made and the bathroom has been bleached (plus fresh towels etc.). It's not a 5 star hotel, but it's the nicest B and B I've ever stayed in. (it is 5 Diamond RAC, AA, BTB etc).
