Friendly and welcoming
Went back to this hotel for a second time in November 2007 This is a great hotel. The Service is fantastic and the food is delicious - very high quality, would really recommend eating there in the evening for at least one night of your stay. Scenery is lovely especially if you are lucky enough to have a room with a seaview. Rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff are really helpful and friendly.
A real treat
Stayed a week for a romantic getaway at the coast. Staff were very friendly and service great. Loved the food, especially the local caught kippers!!! Dinner in the hotel was above the standard you would expect from a hotel of this size/rating and location and there appeared to be several guests from other locally hotels who were dining there to. The views from the hotel are fantastic and it was great to watch the fishing boats coming in and out of the local harbour. Room was clean and light and very well serviced. Just what you need... more
A very comfortable, friendly hotel with very good standards
If you have booked this hotel please do not be put off by some of the reviews recently placed on this site - my experience is different to theirs. My husband, 13 year old daughter and I have just returned from a very pleasant 5 night stay at this hotel. We had booked before reading the rather negative reviews recently left on this site and we were a bit wary of what we would find (although quite looking forward to meeting 'Basil'!). We really neednt have worried. The hotel is rated as a 2 star but I would personally rate it higher.... more
Beautuiful Hotel but could do better on the Housekeeping
Lovely location. Lovely hotel. Lovely food although menu a little limited. Proprietor and staff very pleasant. However, during our stay, the housekeeping standards left a lot to be desired. Twice found room unlocked on our return from a day out. Once, the used crockery on the hospitalty tray had not been replaced, Towels and toiletries not fully replaced each day. We were in a superior room and we came back one day to find the fridge plug was not in the socket (had cleaner used vacuum cleaner and not replaced the plug?). Another day we... more
Don't be fooled by the website for this hotel
I booked this hotel for one night for my family of five. The cost of dinner bed and breakfast, with drinks, came to nearly £500. This would have been acceptable if the hotel lived up to its website. Far from it, as the previous reviewer has also discovered. The website, to my mind, totally exaggerates this hotel. Whereas the website makes the hotel look bright and inviting, in reality it is quite dull. The "unrivalled sea views" were hardly unrivalled – yes you could see the sea, but not before you had the pleasure of looking at the... more
Management response from Horizon123

One minute we are criticised when guests can’t get in, the next we are criticised when they do. Firstly, regards the rate, the Reviewer in fact spent £85.00 per person for their sea view rooms, four course dinner with choices on each course and an extensive breakfast with a choices from the buffet (cereals, juices, prunes, grapefruit, cheeses, cold meats, croissants, muffins and Pains au Chocolat) followed by a selection of cooked that would do a 4 and 5 star hotel proud. (We just do it smaller as we are more petite than they are.) The remainder of the £500.00 was drinks and wine. “the website makes the hotel look bright and inviting” Our web site shows the hotel as it is other than since those photos were taken we have put in many new carpets in bedrooms, linen, new furniture in rooms, new showers, bathroom cushion lino flooring and double glazing. We do not doctor our photos in any way. “"unrivalled sea views" were hardly unrivalled” If I may, I will refer you to TripAdvisor’s own photo gallery:- "The Best little hotel in Cornwall" glad2bme51, CT, USA Jul 18, 2007 The photo in the centre is from our Sitting Room and shows the uninterrupted view out to Eddystone Lighthouse 14 miles away on the horizon. “yes you could see the sea, but not before you had the pleasure of looking at the back of some really scrubby buildings in the foreground.” This reviewer’s room was on the 2nd floor. The above photo is from the 1st floor. Surely views from the 2nd floor must be better than the 1st ? “My brother's family room was pokey in the extreme, with a double bed and bunk beds” This pokey popular family room is 25 feet long by 12 feet wide. If this is considered pokey, then I think many hotel bedrooms would be called pokey. “our bath panel was broken” and has been renewed. Regrettably breakages occur and sometime cannot be repaired immediately and this comment is appreciated and apologies are given for not having repaired it before their arrival had we had time. They stayed one night and it was repaired the following day. “The website makes you believe that the restaurant serves good, fresh, local food well cooked.” Other TripAdvisor Reviewers love the food as do our regular, local and returning clientele. It is regrettable this Reviewer did not like the food but I can assure you, 95% of guests do and we will not change for 5%. As we said at the start, one Reviewer complained when he couldn’t get in. "Guests comments are always welcome and are treated constructively" And they are. I hope TripAdvisor Readers will appreciate that the comments themselves must be constructive. From this review, the bath panel has been renewed and new cushion lino in bathrooms where there were carpets. The Reviewer has been informed of both these points. To say one is unable to see the sea from our 2nd floor and call a 25ft x 12ft bedroom pokey is fine if one lives in a substantial high-rise residence but this size of room is not normally not considered “pokey” by Mr Average. "the customer is always right"!!! The customer is right but one cannot agree with pokey and unable to see the sea when both statements are incorrect. “He needs to understand that the website totally exaggerates the true nature of the hotel” We are a 2 star hotel. Okay, I appreciate the photos look 5 Star and maybe that is the problem. The photos show us as were are and not as the 2 star hotel we are rated, but the hotel does not carry out the ratings. “Unless the owner/manager accepts that there are serious problems with his hotel” The Owner/Manager realises this is a very excellent 2 star hotel with lots of lovely attributes like free on site parking, free internet access from anywhere in the hotel, free heated outdoor swimming pool, lovely bedrooms with fantastic sea views with food that 95% of our guests love but will never be 5 star and 2 star is clearly noted on our web site. The Management has offered the Reviewer a FREE week’s stay on Dinner, bed and breakfast if any of the photos or statements on the hotel web site are incorrect. The offer has not been accepted. Finally, Management has taken seriously the comments made by this Reviewer and has dealt with matters as stated.

great discovery!
I've just spent a short break at the Fieldhead hotel and was most impressed. comfort & atmosphere in a beautiful location. the best part of Looe, no question. the hotel has lovely features including very pretty gardens & outdoor pool, all with great sea views. also a large inviting lounge and bar area all with wonderful views, I had to request a single room for this trip & my room was peaceful, with good sized bathroom. can't wait to return!
The Best little hotel in Cornwall
My daughter and I were so fortunate to discover this little gem of a hotel that sits high up on the hill overlooking the ocean in West Looe., Cornwall. The place is exceptionally well run; warm cozy duvet comforters on the bed , large bath towels, and great tea sampler for the evening after a long walk. The breakfasts were fabulous with more selections than i could have hoped for. Julian, the proprietor was extremely friendly and gave us terrific advice about walking the trail from Looe to Polpero, a 3 hour leisurely hike. Fantastik vistas... more
Beautiful location, lovely hotel and staff
My fianceé and I stayed for a few nights over Easter. The new terrace in the garden was fabulous with excellent views across the bay. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing!! We ate so much! Trudy is so cute too. Thanks very much Julian and staff for a great time!
Unforgetable
Impressed by the website and easy booking on line, we had high expectations of this hotel. After a 4 day stay, we came away agreeing that it was the first hotel (of many visited) to which we would like to return. The welcoming feel of the place, the energy and enthusiasm of the prorietor, his family and staff, the views from the excellent restaurant, lounge and room, all made for a lovely stay.
A real jewel in Looe's crown!
What a find! The welcome was warm and sincere, the host was gracious, our room was delightful and the food was absolutely fabulous! (Oh, and the view's not bad either - wow!) If you are looking for an affordable touch of class with outstanding customer service, this lovely hotel ticks all the boxes. When we found the Fieldhead Hotel it was the beginning of a very special memory - we have already booked a return trip later in the year to re-live it and we are looking forward to it already. . A two star hotel with a great big five... more
