While we lived in Cyprus, we often stayed at Latchi holiday resort for week-ends. We always had an enjoyable time, though we always said a week-end was long enough. On returning to England, we booked in for a full week in 2007. It was very enjoyable, though I would prefer... more

Really enjoyed it
We were at the Elia for 2 weeks back in May, and I can only reiterate what has been said by the previous 3 reviews. On arrival we found the staff to be more than pleasant, our room admittedly was not overly great but quite easily passed for the 3 star rating it was given and to be fair with how much time we spent in the room it wasn't worth bothering about. In fact if the rooms were modernised a little the complex could quite easily pass for 4 star. We spent most of our time around the pool, where the staff were again were most pleasant. The meals we thought were very good, with the amount laid on there was always something that would suit your liking. I must admit I did hear a few people moaning about the selection but from a personal point of view we didn’t have any complaints about the food. (loved the snacks by the pool) The animation team worked very hard and were excellent with the children, and as others have mentioned no matter how hard you try to avoid the club dance if you are not doing the actions by the end of your holiday you will certainly be singing it for a few weeks after you return home. The weather was not very good for the first week when we arrived but the second week was great. Overall a great holiday and we are hoping to return next year.
amazing hoilday, from emma andy, meg and jordan
I booked this holiday in October 06,for my family,2 adults ,and 2 children (10 & 8) all inclusive then read reports on here and thought what the hell have I done ,it sound horrible so when June the 13th 07 came I will say I was dreading going to elia latchi village it was are first holiday abroad tooooo, well let me tell you ,it was a holiday I will never forget, we got there around 5.30 its about 50 mins drive from airport, and at reception we where gave are keys and where told about meal times etc they spoke English and very very friendly, the lady then said lez will take your cases to your room which he did and again was very friendly, The room was just what we wanted we had a studio, it was very clean, we had a bottle of local wine on the table waiting for us which was nice and went down well ,the kids had t-shirts and hats tooooooo, there was plenty of room .when I opened the balcony door the view was fantastic ,I had a view of the main pool (where we all lived most of the holiday)and of the sea tooooo,it was lovely just standing there with palm trees around me, The whole place was very clean there was always someone cleaning and doing jobs around and everyone made you welcome, The dinning area I will never forget the view was amazing one bit is open topped and well to sit there eating your dinner with a view like that I could not ask for more ,if it was toooo hot there was an under cover eating area, the tables where always cleaning and laid out nice and again the staff could not do enough for you, the food was great always different food and a kids selection too and the puddings where to die for mmmmmmmm the sure where good, we you had sat down with yr food someone would always be at your table taking your order for drinks ,the kids always had a fruity cocktail drink called a Donald duck which they thought was great, they could have as much ice-cream as they wanted all day as well, The animation team where GREAT I loved them all ,sarah, ric, kayleigh.cathy and lucas , they where great with the kids and also the adults ,we played water pole (which ric needs to practice on lets to many goals in hahahaha),water volleyball, French bowls, darts football, water basketball, there was even aqua fit with cathy which was fun the list goes on, even at night they worked so hard allday and night ,my kids loved them ,they do face painting, donkey rides, pirates day which all the kids love, kids disco, there is far to much to list what the kids get up . They have a club dance tooo which by the end of the holiday trust me you will now it was great even my hubby did the actions while lying on the sun beds we still sing it now when we are at home (be my lover). The pools where very clean, even one had a slide which the kids loved. There is a shop on site which was not over priced at all, and anyway 5 mins from you there are about 3 supermarkets, with everything you could need. There is loads more I could write about but I think I have gave you a rough idea about the place, I do not regret booking this holiday at all it was a holiday me & my family will never forget and I big thank you goes to all the staff nothing was to much trouble If you want to know anything else just email I don’t mind at all (eclar9@ntlworld.com)i have loads of photos.
Great Value
My experiance of Package holidays is not great, so when we left for this holiday I had mixed feelings about what it would be like. We left Luton on a late Sunday flight so that we arrived at about 220hrs local time in Paphos airport. The First Choice staff were very efficient and within ten minute or so we were in a taxi on our way to Elia Latchi. The drive took about 40 minutes. When we arrived at the complex the English staff were very welcoming and sorted us out very quickly. We were then taken to our maisonette which was about half the way up the hill. (We did see some holiday makers wheeling aroun wheelchairs - this hill is quite steep, so consideration should be given if you need to use wheelchairs/pushchairs etc.). The maisonette was excellent - a very large downstairs area with a very good kitchen and a living area. There was a small bottle of local wine and a meal of salad waiting for us - which was very much appreciated. Upstairs there was a bathroom area and a large bedroom with two double beds. Airconditioning was fitted. The bedroom balcony did overlook the bay which was about a quater of a mile away - the view was fine. The complex itself seemed to be in good condition overall - some building work was going on but that did not disrupt our holiday in any way. We spent a lot of time around the main large pool which we thought was very good - the kids can really enjoy themselves in it - there is another seperate pool on the other side of the complex but we did not use that. We went fully inclusive and we thought it good value - of course somtimes the meals were a bit bland but we thought they did very well on what must be tight budgets. Our son also got snacks and icecream around by the pool area, when he felt hungry and of course we could have as much to drink as we wanted - the "free drinks" applies to local brands only, but the beer tasted fine! The staff always seemed attentive and wanted to help - they were very good. The staff looking after the children and entertainments were also very good - I'm not a great fan of "entertainments" but I will give them credit for a really good effort. Locally Latchi village is very small - a few shops and about 10 restaurants - we never ate in these but they all seemed very good but some were busier than others. You can walk the whole village in about ten minutes. We hired a car - we found the hire shop (if you turn left out of the complex it's about a hundred metres down on the right) very helpful and they seemed to charge the best prices. Watch some of them they will put more and more add ons so the bill gets a bit more expensive. Make sure that you don't pay for extra petrol - this company had a good flat rate with no nasty hidden extras. We had the car for three days - my daughter got married over there (it was a really nice civil wedding) so besides that day we toured around for the other two days. The weather was not that brilliant for the seven days we were there so when we were out and about I didn't find the "area" around Latchi that good. We drove up the north west coast and we thought it was not that nice. Paphos itself is just one big mess - loads of building work going on and it all seems a bit of a sprawl. Shopping is OK but it's better in other countries i.e. supermarkets and shoppinbg complexes. Leather wear is good to buy. Overall we found Elia Latchi to be great value - however the price of the airfares compared to other European destinations is very high - so that there are less expensive alternatives. Talking with the hotel staff they are aware that airfares are coming down, which would make holidaying here much better. Once again I would to say that we found the staff very considerate and attentive and we would go back to this hotel. However, personally I would like to go to other destinations before going back to Cyprus.
Unforgettable Holiday
Me and my family have just spent 2 lovely weeks at this resort. I was dreading going having read the reports on this and other sites. Our room was dated but it was very clean, we also noticed that refurbishment was taking place in areas of the resort. We were told our rooms would be cleaned 5 days a week when in actual fact they were done every day. The resturant was great, there was lots of choices usually around 4 types of meat I:E steak, chops, chicken, lamb along with potatoes, rice, pasta and vegatable dishes, there was always fresh salad and bread available, sometimes the food was'nt labelled but the chef was always around to speak to and was really friendly, but the thing about the resturant was the view, it is stunning and you will never tire of it. The entertainment team earn their money, there always around to play with kids and are always up for a game of water polo or volley ball. The evening was rubbish for adults but my children loved it and I have to say its no differant to any other resort we've stayed in. The pool is fantastic, extreamly clean and has sections to suit everyone. Overall we felt this is a great multi national hotel, they cater for British,German, French and Cypriots alike, they are happy and friendly people and we would return. You should visit Latchi Harbour for a meal or drink its great, also go to Chix Chox in Polis it lovely.
2 1/2, instead of 4 stars are realistic
This is a review from a german, because during our stay 80% of the hotel guests were british. German cataloges offer this hotel as a 4star facility - a higher rating. The management seems to operate the hotel very lazy, which is a very diplomatic way of describing their doing. Guests, who booked an apartement or maisonette were often told to stay in a low-category studio for one to two nights. The facilities are aging. Half-hearted renovation attempts seemed to have been taking place years ago. In the meantime e.g. tile painting in the bathroom is falling down, again. Food is Ok for vegetarians, however repetitive. Fish is Ok. Served meat is of lower quality. Be aware of the animation team. They are nagging at your sleep until midnight. I.e. don't travel there with kids, younger than 6. Summary: Do not pay the 4star catalogue prize. If you'd get this hotel as a late-deal and you'd not expect more than 2 1/2 stars, you'll probably travel back home much more satisfied. Better: Do not book the hotel at all, since management doesn't seem to be enough under pressure.
What a shame...
My boyfriend and I booked this holiday two days before travelling. I will do my best to give you a realistic appraisal of this hotel. I use this website before booking all of my holidays and would hope that what I read was true. We read all the reviews and decided that it seemed okay for last minute. We arrived at around 4.00 a.m. at the hotel so couldn't really tell what the place looked like. Unfortunately we had to drag our cases up the big hill to our room as there were not any staff to take the cases up on the buggy. This presented no problem for us but if you were a family that had arrived with two small children I imagine it would not give you a very good first impression. Room: if you like really loud yellow walls (I'm a neutral kind of girl) then you wouldn't be put off by the room at first site. However, before I went to sleep, after seeing our room, I was very apprehensive about what this holiday was going to throw at us. The bathroom was very small with tile paint peeling off and those horrible white shower curtains that I personally can't stand, it reminded me a lot of when we used to go on caravan holidays when we were kids, but it was clean enough. In the bedroom we had one plug socket which was nowhere near the mirror for when you wanted to get ready to go out in the evening. On top of that the lightbulbs were really dim and the lighting was really poor. On the plus side at least we thought we looked good before going out! There was a fitted wardrobe with four hangers and another single fitted wardrobe with shelves. The kitchenette area was basic, what I expected really, the lounge was a bit manky, there was one socket which didn't work all the time and above this socket some of the plaster had come off the wall and it appeared to get worse throughout the week. The terrace area was okay, again, didn't seem to be that well kept but was fine. The plus point was that we had fantastic airconditioning in the lounge and it was free, though if you wanted it in your bedroom I believe you had to pay for it. It was good enough for us to leave the bedroom door open and it would cool the whole unit. When you came in from out of the sun it felt as though you were stepping into a chiller cabinet which was great as it was hot! Overall, the room was very dated and lacked care but it was clean and as the week went along I felt some strange affection towards it. My boyfriend and I used to go to bed at night talking of ways that the room could be improved with not too much money, sad I know but it so easily could have been better. Food: I had read that the food was rubbish but my boyfriend and I like to eat mostly healthily so thought that you couldn't go wrong with salad really. There was qiute a big selection but if you didn't get to the buffet early the staff didn't seem efficient in replacing food. One thing I found was that I'd really like a salad dish but then they'd mix it with something I didn't like or it had lots of dressing on it. They didn't seem to label much of the food apart from the obvious (rice - really I couldn't tell!) so you weren't quite sure what you were eating half the time. It was very repetitive, in fact my boyfriend is really healthy but now we are home, doesn't want to eat anymore salad until at least after Christmas! For kids it was basic pizza slices, chicken nuggets and fish fingers and after a while I started helping myself to their food. We never made it to breakfast so can't comment on that but it tended to be that what you had for lunch you also had for dinner, though they did throw other stuff into the mix like stirfry one night, carvery another, crepes. For me, the best was the BBQ on Sunday and Wednesday lunchtimes. You never got a set table to sit at like you do on other holidays that I've been to and at first we thought this was better but really they only do it because they don't have enough tables to sit everyone at at the same time. Sometimes we'd go and struggle to find a table. Because of this lack of organisation half of the tables didn't seem to be made up and it also presented the problem of staff not knowing whether you'd just arrived or, so sometimes it would take a while to get our drinks. In the end we used to get out drinks from the upstairs bar and take them down with us. It was hot down there even though it was open to the elements (the view across the sea was really lovely) unfortunately even though there were fans they didn't seem to put them on. Also again lighting was quite bad. I remember going up to an area where they were making crepes but it was so dark that I couldn't tell what the guy was making, I had to ask! This whole area could have been so easily improved with set tables, more fans, better lighting, but for me they could have so easily improved on the food, just through presentation and labelling. It just seemed like staff lacked initiative and had to wait to be told by someone staying at the hotel. A couple of times I heard people complaining to the management about the food and to be honest I can see why, if all the food dishes are three quarters empty and not labelled it doesn't look appealing and they should definitely have had one member of staff just standing by the buffet always checking what food needed replenishing. We were all inclusive but ate out four nights out of the seven that we were there, we'd go and check out the buffet etc but most of the time would walk by and keep on walking. The harbour was only 3 minute walk away with about ten restaurants. Upstairs all inclusive bar and terrace area: for me and my boyfriend this was good, they again could have done with a few more staff to serve you but the young german ladies that worked there were really efficient and helpful. Lighting was poor and to be honest if they don't sort this out, someone is going to hurt themselves and they will end up having to pay compensation, we couldn't see where we were walking and it amazed me that the ladies carrying all the drinks seem to be able to do this quickly. The view out across the sea was fantastic and was the selling point for this area. Pools: there were three pools, the main pool by the all inclusive bar which was always well kept. There was another pool that if you wanted to get away from the busy pool and didn't want kids round you all the time, the only problem was that they had closed the bar by this pool, well it just looked as though it had been left and the pool wasn't cleaned, it generally looked tired and could have been improved so easily. This is a family hotel and they didn't really seem to care much about looking after the areas that adults without children would use. The other childrens pool by the tennis courts was shallow, relatively well kept with a play area there too but I never saw anyone use it. Also the loungers looked like they were on their last legs. The two tennis courts were fine, the crazy golf was not exactly crazy. The squash court was fine, though again not looked after, there was a bit of food in the corner that looked as though it had been there for weeks, and every day that we used the court it was still there and the court didn't seem to swept clean all week. The building housing the squash was fine but just looked as though it had been left, i.e. no lights on, no personnel checking anything, gym was locked all the time, no one seemed to know where the keys were. On the upside, if you like sport, which me and my boyfriend do, the sports facilities were always empty as all the other guests looked and seemed to be more interested in taking advantage of the all inclusive food and booze but this was a plus point for us. The animation team for the children seemed to please the children but to be honest on the rare occasions that we hung around to see what they were doing, we found it quite embarrasing / cringeworthy to watch. Now, I can be quite fussy as my boyfriend reminds me and expect a certain standard when I go on holiday (I am realistic about hotel ratings too though). All I kept thinking was that if I was a mother (which I'm not) and my husband had saved up his hard earned money to take us away on our annual holiday I would have been very disappointed / angry. I would say that this hotel probably gets it's 3 star plus rating due to the varying facilities it offers but I would say that it was 2.5 star to 3 star at the most, it has major potential to be a 4 star through changing it's set up i.e. keeping pools, sporting areas cleaner and smoother running at meal times and food as mentioned above. The harbour is 3 mins walk away with some nice restaurants, Faros is good and friendly, huge portions of food, one night was very weird though, a Chinese couple, one on keyboard, the other singing, in a Cypriot restaurant singing english songs! Bazaar!!! We found a good bar (as we consider ourselves young still!) called Zouk which has fantastic waitress service, this bar kept us going really!!! The beaches were not great, a mixture of stone and seaweed, no sand but the sea was really warm and very very salty! Would I go back. No. I have paid a lot less money to go to a lot nicer hotelson a late deal. Unfortunately I would like to think that this hotel could improve but I personally feel that as long as people pay the money to stay at the hotel, they aren't going to bother too much to upgrade their outfit which is a shame. If it were my hotel, there are so many areas that could be really improved with hardly any expense.
People make the holiday
Stayed for two weeks. Based on what we’ve had for less money in Cyprus and elsewhere. When we booked, last minute as we were forced to change hotel, there was no mention to the fact that the complex is built on the side of a large hill, the road from the bottom to the top was named cardiac hill by those before us. There is no way to get to the main bar/dinning area without going up or down steps or slopes, the bar is the main and only meeting place. The steps are uneven and rough as are some of the pathways. If you have an apartment at road level you have a long hick. This hotel is not wheelchair friendly. There is only one dinning area, the Amoroza which is semi open air. The Aphrodite restaurant/bar is closed. The Panorama a-la carte is a small add-on to the Amoroza, this is a few tables under a reed mat roof but you get your food cooked at your table. The reception is small and has no interest except the safe deposit boxes; again if you are at the top of the hill you will have a hick to get there. The food for the first week was dire (mash potato was made as runny custard), little choice poorly cooked, sort of English with a Cypriot theme. One third of the choice was salad. It was hit and miss if you got your drink before you finished your meal, plates etc were removed rather too soon which made you feel uncomfortable. One lunch there was chicken cooked on a BBQ at a cost of £6 I did`nt see anyone take up this offer. We ate out every other day. However, things did improve over the second week. The drinks are ok. The staff were half and half, some great some there for the pay. The pictures we saw on the holiday site are very misleading and out of date. Although the pools are ok some of the surfaces are rough and can graze, getting out for some might be a problem. The children’s pool is good. The entertainment has to be seen to be believed, if you are expecting a slick Animation team you’ll be very disappointed. Having said that they all do their best, the only male is a real gem, he has a way about him. The rooms are basic, we had a 3 foot wardrobe for 3 of us and few drawers. Bathrooms basic and looking old. We have paid less for much more on all counts. The plus is that the grounds are nice and there is a relaxed feel and you can’t help but smile and enjoy yourself. The views from the Amoroza area are wonderful; there can’t be many better sunsets. If you want a good holiday here lower your expectations, join-in everything, hire a car and eat in Latchi village as often as you can. We were disappointed and will not go back.
Excellent holiday overall!!
5 of us travelled to the Elia Latchi for the first 2 weeks of July - 3 adults, a 12 & a 14yr old. We stayed in adjoining studios which were excellent. The holiday village was great - small enough to keep the personal touch yet enough space not to feel crowded. We tended to stay around the smaller Fontana pool which didn't have the pool activities of the larger pool. There were plenty of sunbeds so no need for the 'dawn patrol'! We were on an all inclusive package & found this to be a good deal. The food was very good at lunch & dinner - plenty of choice & the quality was great. There was always meat & fish of some description & a good selection of vegetables. The salad bar was also 1st class. There was even a selection for children - chicken nuggats, fish fingers, pizza etc. The help yourself ice-cream went down well with all age groups, as did all the sweets!! The red wine & beer was fine too - didn't try the white but saw plenty going down the hatch. Never made it to breakfast. It is a very friendly place with a good mix of nationalities - Germany, Belgium, Greece, Netherlands & the UK were all well represented & everyone got on well - even during the football! The only tiny downside, from our point of view, was that the only bar open in the evening was by the main pool & stage area. If you didn't have a child involved or Karaoke isn't your scene you had either to grin & bear it, go back to your room or head into the village. We felt that if the other pool bar had been open it would have been well used. We will definately go back as the place & area are fantastic. A big thankyou to all the staff who worked very hard to ensure everyone had a good time.
beautiful grounds, great staff, just brilliant!
This is the 2nd time we have been to cyprus. last cime we went to nissi bay. We prefer the west coast although the east coast was also beautiful. we had an absoulutely brilliant holiday at the elia latchi. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are great, there isnt really anything to complain about. The dinners are delicious not too much english cuisine but whats the point in travelling abroad if your just going to eat english food. i would recommend hiring a car and driving into the mountains which are simply gorgeous. This was a perfect holiday and were trying crete next itll be hard 2 live up to cyprus.
Never Bored
An excellent place to spend your summer holidays at even with the warm weather. All inclusive is brilliant here as the food excellent but not if you only like English cuisine. Drinks are also brilliant in the all inclusive and can almost be got whenever. The range of activities is also brilliant as there is really something to do all the time and you never really get bored. The evening entertainment is probably the biggest let down but it is still worked hard on.
