Party location, for the noise tolerant!
from RachelDalby
We stayed at the Amsterdam Hotel for one night after doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride. I booked it in on a late booking hotel website because it was good value (£70) and looked central and on the seafront. We found the staff really helpful, the room had a nice sea view (although the decor was basic and the bathroom door was badly water damaged), and the food was quite good - so overall we have rated it as an average experience. The reason we couldn't rate it more highly was because of the noise factor in the evening - from...

Great Weekend
from tonyiow
Myself and 3 friends stayed at this hotel for the Pride weekend in August this year. Our rooms were both lovely, very clean, recently decorated with flat screen tv in one of the rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If i had to say anything negative then the weekend was especially hot and the hotel doesnt have air conditioning.

A good experience
from Nelsontouch
I stayed two nights in room 20 -- a seafront room. The room was large (huge by reasonably priced European hotel standards), very bright and airy, huge duvet-covered bed, flat screen TV and a fun bathroom -- an open shower (no curtain) and lots of towels. The manager was very helpful and the staff friendly and welcoming. The hotel is certainly gay-oriented, but there were a couple of straight couples among the guests and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. The continental breakfast is standard mid-market hotel style, but perfectly...

Brighton Fever!
from Ian2
I recently stayed at The Amsterdamn Hotel in Brighton. I must admit that my first thoughts, I imagined that it would be another hotel in Brighton being overly inflated prices and being a gay hotel in Brighton with a captive audience. To my suprise, I found that the hotel had just recently been refurbished. I found that the rooms were quite a decent size. However the room we booked was at the top of the hotel and without a lift, was a real stuggle with a suitcase. The room we booked was a side sea view without a bathroom (late booking)....

Nicely decorated rooms right in the middle of everything !
from lee_bear
We spent the past three nights over the weekend at The Amsterdam hotel in room 12 on the first floor. I had not stayed here for about three years and was really pleased with the room this time which was obviously recently renovated to a very high standard and had a nice sea view. The bed was really very comfortable, all the furniture is new and they now have wet rooms with a large mobile shower head which was fun to use. They have a breakfast buffet of cold meats, different cheeses, cereal, juices, toast and hot drinks which we both enjoyed...

mixed feelings
from eugene uk
My friend and I spent a few nights at the Amsterdam last December. We booked the least expensive room type, so I guess we got what we paid for: an undersized room right at the back of the building, looking onto a rather shabby courtyard. Despite the small size and the depressing view, I must admit the room was kind of cute, simply but tastefully decorated, with tea & coffee making facilities (but no minibar), and a small TV (with British terrestrial channels only though). The bathroom was small but adequate with a walk-in shower (basically,...

so not fantastic
from A TripAdvisor Member
i booked a room here on the basis of the good reveiw above and another in the guardian. i was also charmed on the phone by the gentleman who assured me the amsterdam was rated as a five-star hotel. hmm, five stars for precisely what? being near the traffic circle and the burger king? we turned up, and my comapinon and i were not shown up to our room - up the filthy staircase. and voila, the promised 'grand' room -made over most expensively most recently (guardian review) - was really rather shoddy. magnolia walls and a countryish pine bed;...

Management response from amsterdamBrighton
The Amsterdam Hotel & Bar has recently been purchased by a new owner and people like myself have been brought onboard to oversee the changes planned for the building.
I read with dismay the comments made by one of our residents and can assure this guest and further customers of ours will not be disappointed by the changes we are implementing.
Already we have refurbished our Sauna, fully redectorated and now sporting a large chill out room with big screen TV, and a small gym.
The bedrooms are currently going through a decoration scheme which should be completed fully by the new year, and the bar is about to be refitted and relaunced over the next few months, as well as Kitchen facilites fitted (which should mean full cooked breakfasts in future).
As for the star rating, we have not been and will not be a five star property as we only have 24 bedrooms and basic facilities. However, the facilites we do provide pleasant and comfortable and since taking over we have had nothing but good comments about the property.
I hope we can reinstill this guest of his confidence in us and I hope others will come to see how the changes are progressing over the next few months.
We welcome any comments customers may have, good or bad, and thank you for the chance to respond.

Fantastic Small Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
As a former resident of Brighton, I always enjoyed the Amsterdam's classy, laid-back bar. On a recent visit back to town, I booked a room at the hotel, and my experience was everything I expected. From the moment my partner and I checked in, we were treated with nothing but civility and accommodation. The staff was uniformly welcoming and professional, and the service we received -- from checking in to housekeeping -- was exceptional. The one minor facilities issue we experienced, a leak in our ceiling caused by a faulty seal in the room...

The Hotel looks nice from the outside, but its not all good im afraid. We had to go up 5 big flights of stairs to get to our room, on the way up i kicked over about 3 glasses that hadnt been picked up off the floor. There was stains all over the carpets and once in our room it was even more disapointing it stunk of something i cant put my finger on it needed a good clean and we were a bit gutted. but we was only there for one night so what the ****. We also noticed everywhere we looked there were men couples and then noticed on the door...
