Drakes Hotel Brighton

On the website this looked llike a beautiful hotel to take my boyfriend to for his birthday. Sadly, the service was appalling (we had to wait over an hour for 2 english breakfasts then when they did arrive they were cold! It was then a further 40 minute wait for replacements!) The rooms are also much smaller than they appear in the pictures. The beds are nice and big but there is almost no wardrobe space so pack light! Good rooms, great decor, attentive but informal service. More importantly though Drakes serves the best cocktails in Brighton and the restaurant downstairs is a gourmet treat.

We stayed the weekend from 7 April. I had high expectations having enjoyed great stays in The Granville and Hotel du Vin previously. The room was immaculate but tiny - no drawer space - no mirror or space on dressing table - a girl has to put her things out you know - we had to live out of our bags all weekend - not good. The 'wet room' was a joke. Literally everything got wet as it was the size of a cupboard - the sink unit (so no towells or anything by the sink) - the toilet - everthing - rediculous! We had a great time and we really enjoyed it. The food and the service was really good. The warm pastries and the cocktails really stick out as being exceptional. The style of the hotel is sleek and contrasts well with Perlirocco and Blanch House (where we have also stayed). The air conditioning in the rooms is a great touch and I was surprised by this and it was really handy at the weekend. I had no problems with the lack of a lift, even though we were on the top floor. Excellent Staff with a very helpful friendly manner but room 404 in the attic , while commanding excellent sean views had minimal storage space , a very basic wet room and was way over priced at £195 per night .

Spent one night in the yin yang single room - dont be put off by the term 'single', it was very cosy and comfortable for me and my fiance. Sea view was amazing. Room was exceptional. Service was to a high standard. It's in a great location. Nothing but praise. We were impressed so much that we decided to cut short our tour of Brighton 'just' to go back and spend time in our room. If you're looking for a stylish, modern, boutique hotel in Brighton then stop here and look no further.

My Girlfreind and I stayed at Drakes for one night to celebrate a birthday. We booked the city facing bijou room and took advantage of the reduced online rates (£103). The room was excellent, very well presented. The bath made a nice feature and the water temperature was fine (unlike mentioned in previous reviews). We did not eat in the hotels restaurant, but there are plenty in the area. The cocktails were good and reasnobly priced (reccommend the 'Kama Sutra') in the hotels bar. Drakes is based in central Brighton, on the sea front near to the pier, making it walking distance to most attractions. I booked circular sea-facing feature room in mid-January, check the pictures on ---- or from other customers on tripadvisor. The room was perfectly presented, an immaculate white king size bed, with loads of pillows, three sofa chairs, small chest of draws, two sets of wall hangers behind a curtain, which hiding here, coffee and tea making facilities. We enjoyed our stay at Drakes, and thought that the room (especially the view) was lovely. The staff were great and the bed was probably the comfiest I have ever slept in. However, I was disappointed with the value for money. When you are paying nearly £500 for two nights, you expect everything from top to bottom to be perfect. I thought that the finishing touches that you would expect just weren’t up to scratch. My husband and I chose Drakes for the seafront location and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We really liked the look of the standalone baths and the decor generally on the website. It is warm and cosy inside, with a small bar (open 24 hours, this is a real plus) that also doubles as reception. We chose the Ying Yang room, which has a lovely view towards Brighton Pier and the beach. Two main problems: the noise from the main road and the size of the room.
