Quintiscetially Quirky but Quaint
from ChippyFuntley
Roy, Betty and Tiff (not forgetting 'little' Roy!) will make sure that your stay here will be as pleasant as possible. In house breakfasts are enough to set you up for the day, and if you cannot decide from their ample evening menu then the Barbican or the City Centre are 10 minutes walk away. The rooms are kept to a high standard and every time we go there the decorators are in during the day. The hotel car park can be a bit tight, but with free on-street parking from 18:00 - 10:00 not a major problem.
Only just average

If you are offered Room 16 and have a cat that might need swinging - ask for another! It was sold as an "Executive Double" on Laterooms although apparently the hotel don't use this terminology anymore. On checking out (thankfully after only one night) the owner had obviously been made aware that we had complained about the room size and tried to make amends. Unfortunately it is cold comfort to have it pointed out that you had been given the worst room in the hotel and a list of all the better rooms which had been available. I'm no...

Service with a smile...
from cheekymia
Call it fate, call it luck. Call it what you like, but I cant praise the level of service higly enough. I was well looked after and made to feel like my custom counted. I wasnt just a room number. I knew everyone by name and they certainly knew mine, by the end of my stay. The food was delicious and I will be recommending the hotel to all of my friends and family Being a listed building, the only down point was the lack of a lift. But all in all was a great cardio work out. Will definately go again.!!
First Hotel to contact in Plymouth
from TandTTeignmouth
We have stayed at the Invicta Hotel on a number of occasions when visiting Plymouth. This family run hotel is in the heart of the famous Plymouth Hoe and is the perfect place to stay. Ideally situated, as we can park our car in the hotels free carpark, and then we are mearly a five or ten minute walk away from all of Plymouths attractions. The hospitality at this hotel is first class, from Tiffany in reception to little Roy in the bar and restaurant. The owners Roy and Betty are always available to offer advise and nothing is to much...

This Hotel would be my only Choice
from DavePhillipsBristol
I am a little reluctant to give a fantastic review,Because I want to be able to stay here on a regular basis(DON'T WANT ROOMS TO FILL UP ALL THE TIME) However being fair to the owners. Mr & Mrs Martain (owners) are very welcoming every time I stay.Being owners they are always willing to have a chat and share a drink with you at the bar (You don't get that from national chains of hotels). This hotel is perfect for the business traveller like myself and I would highly recommend to anyone who is fed up with the faceless, cold national...

What a great Breakfast
from WorcesterDougal
Ideal base to stay and explore Plymouth.Comfortable accommodation with friendly staff.Great breakfast that set us up for the day.Visited the Robin Hood Club on the Barbican (owned by the hotel) Great venue for having a few drinks in a civilised atmosphere. Would imagine that in the season it would prove a popular venue for mature adults wishing to meet with friends to round off the evening .Special thanks to Tiffany on reception for greeting us on arrival .Next we stay over in Plymouth we will try the restuarant at the hotel.Friends tell me...

Excellent, friendly, good value
from Anthoniovert
We found the hotel through the local tourist authority website and from the first phone call were encouraged. We were not disappointed. This family hotel is welcoming, well-run in every way. It is ideally situated and offers excellent value, adjacent to the Hoe and within a short walk of the City. I would unhesitatingly recommend it. Anyone who expresses disappointment with the Invicta must be of a particularly difficult disposition.
Mmm well !!

Booked this hotel it was a birthday weekend,Bad start we were asked to pay for the hotel before we actually saw the rooms,we have stayed in many hotels over the years but this payment before we spent the night was unusual. The weekend we stayed there we put our towels in the bath on the first morning they put the same towels back on the towel rack hence no change of towels. Also breakfast we waited 35 mins for our breakfast no toast whilst we waited, following morning when we ordered our breakfast I asked for toast before we had our...

Management response from invicta123
Although dissapointed to read these comments we always welcome constructive criticism and try to address any potential problems effectively, We would however like to make the following comments in response to this review.
A large percentage of hotels now charge for accomodation at the time of booking especially when booking online, we decided to continue to allow guests to pay in person, at check in. All our rooms have just been refurbished to a high standard and guests are more than welcome to inspect the room before making payment. Had any objections been made then i would have resolved the matter accordingly.
We have a very strict towel changing policy at the Invicta Hotel, all towels are changed daily. We do however try to be environmentally friendly where possible and if a towel has not been used then we will leave it. The bathrooms incidentally dont have towel racks so this remark cannot be qualified.
We are very proud of our extensive breakfast menu. All our food is cooked fresh not pre cooked for speed. On rare occasions when all guests decide to come at the same time and at the last minute, this could mean a short wait for our guests. Chef provides toast with all breakfast dishes.
As mentioned previously payment is taken whilst checking in, this also avoids guests queing up to check out in the morning whilst breakfast is being served. There is always more than one member of staff on at all times.
We are a friendly, family run hotel and we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service. Nothing is too much trouble and we like to offer a personal touch. A huge percentage of our comments highlight the high level of customer service received, this is something we will continue to provide and strive to improve.
Would Certainly Recommend

Booked two night stay by telephone after perusing both the hotel website and traveller reviews. We were not disappointed. Hotel decor excellent. Staff (including the owners) very friendly and attentive. Perfect location... easy access to Plymouth Hoe and Barbican. Less able visitors should be aware that this is a listed building and as a result does not have a lift (elevator) and should request rooms on lower floors. Parking available on site, but if car park full, ample (free overnight) on street. Wardens don't start...

Invicta is Terriffic!
from chamikmil
We were on my first visit to the UK and spent two nights at the Invicta in Plymouth. We have stayed in many hotels over the years but this is the first time I have experienced such a wonderful stay. We felt very welcome from the first time we came into the door by Roy. He made us feel right at home and helped in our selection of a place for dinner as well. "Little Roy" and Simon were magnificent. We wanted for nothing. They were continually friendly and helpful. The room was wonderful with a fantastic view. It was very clean and...
