lovely valentines night
from emli78
We stayed at the roundthorn on Valentine's and we had a really lovely stay-just over night. There was a special Valentine's deal on with meal for two etc and choc's and rose in room. At first I thought after I'd booked it that it would all be a bit corny but no it was very good. The room was nice and the meal was gorgeous from beginning to end and then next morning had a lovely breakfast in bed (I think I gained half a stone in 24 hours). I would recommend this hotel for a special night away etc.

Lovely Hotel with excellent food and service
from Julesdbaker
My Husband, 9 month old Daughter and I stayed two nights at the Roundthorn, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The local staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them despite us asking for a number of things! The food was excellent, my Husband said his English Breakfast was the best he has had in a hotel! In the evening there is a Bar Menu with a reasonable choice, but the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. We ate in our room both nights. Wonderful views and very peaceful. The hotel may feel quite if...

Excellent Accomodation
from jenwightman
We stayed at The Roundthorn on the night of our daughters wedding along with other members of our family and friends. All of the rooms are furnished in different styles, traditional and modern. The room we had No.10 was ultra modern and very clean. It had a nice bathroom and even a kitchen. The rooms varied in size but they were all decorated to a high standard. The public rooms were also newly refurbished and felt fresh, light and airy. The breakfast was full lakeland and was cooked to perfection using fresh local products. The...

Good night sleep - wonderful area - helpful staff
from jazzyjustlaw
We arrived and not as overwhelmed as I would have expected as supposedley this is a 5 star hotel. The hotel looked tired in places. The grounds were beautiful. The staff were helpful. Breakfast great, comfortable bed. Newly refurbished bathroom was quite nice, Not a good to try and make good a crack in the bath, plus didnt like the fact that the world could see you when you were in the bathroom. Rooms were spacious and I would consider staying again if the price reflected the real star rating which is an average four star.
Change the lighting.
from HertsPrivateeye
This was our overnight stop on the way to Scotland. Lovely setting, nice gardens and views. Staff were friendly. The decor in the bar was extremely dull and made worse by such poor lighting that we were unable to read as darkness fell. Certainly it did not have the feel of a country house hotel, something we are very used to. Did not feel overall that it was good value for the price.
Great Staff
from elllen1
This hotel is very nice and has a freindly feel with the most helpful staff I have encountered for a while. The fixtures and cleanliness better than a lot of others in this price bracket. My only beef is the soundprofing or lack of it, there was a very noisy charity event in the bar and after that had finished I could hear the people in the room above my chatting for half the night.
Relaxed friendly atmosphere
from AJ&PB
We wanted an overnight stop to break our journey from Scotland and the location, a short drive from M6, proved ideal for that. Nice frontage of small gardens and open views. A very warm welcome and a pleasant large room in the main house awaited us (there seem to be some modern annexed rooms). There is a comfortable well priced bar and a residents lounge where we enjoyed a very good light supper away from the noise of a wedding party. We slept quietly enough, but there was a tear in the sheet and we couldn't get the ensuite showeroom...

Warm and Friendly, Fantastic Place
from A TripAdvisor Member
Having just returned from a great couple of nights stay at the Roundthorn I would highly reccommend it. Spectacular views, comfortable and cosy accommodation and the friendly and helpful staff made my stay an enjoyable one:- It's in a great location to visit the lakes. I really enjoyed my late night supper for business people. I will definately return.
Hard beds and cold showers
from Lovechocolatte
My family and I arrived quite late, due to poor directions, but to a warm welcome. As there was no tea tray (no tea bags or electric kettle) in my room I asked if we could have some tea and I was surprised that the seemingly friendly woman tutted at me and pulled a face - letting me know it was too much trouble. (Next morning when I checked out I was rather shocked to find we had been charged an extra four pounds, considering that none was provided in the room.) The house was pretty, but the beds were hard and the showers...

Great place to stay
from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a really great place to stay - out in the country and away from all the noise and buzz but at the same time close to the M6 motorway and so convenient for easy travelling to the surrounding areas including the Lake District. The rooms are spacious and well furnished and we loved the folder full of nearby restaurants where we could eat, especially as sample menus were included so you could decide whether you liked the look of the menu before making a booking. The staff were halpful and friendly. We would go back again.
