Friendly hotel in lovely location
Yes its a bit 'tired' but somehow this didn't matter as the friendly owners and staff made up for it. Also it's a property that has character and with a lovely garden and location right on the cliffs in eastern Ventnor. Food was good with a reasonable choice (we had half-board for our stay of 5 days).
Needs TLC
We recently spent five nights at this hotel. It is a large victorian hotel on three floors (No Lift). It is blessed with an outstanding location looking out to sea with extensive grounds. This could be a fantastic hotel if it had a complete makeover. The decor is very dated and quite tatty in places. Wallpaper torn on the main staircase and peeling away in areas in our bedroom. It looks as if no decorating of any kind has been done for twenty or more years. Our bedroom was a good size with lovely sea views. The bathroom was very dated with a... more
Great Family Hotel
Just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. Very family friendly. Our two boys 7 & 9 had a great time in the pool (heated), loved the pitch and putt (9 small holes) and were made very welcome by all the staff. Lovely big family room -needed redecorating (owner said they were getting round to it) Very clean. Food was good - Half board. One chef better than the other! Beautiful views from the dining room and our room. Nice quiet location but only a 10-15 minute walk to the beach or shops. Would go again with great... more
Ventnor Towers, more like Faulty Towers!!!!!!!!
We trusted that this hotel would be up to a standard owing to it being part of the Best Western chain. How WRONG were we! We paid £140 per night half board which included breakfast and what was described in their confirmation letter as a "table d'Hote" dinner. We arrive to find that there is barely a car park available for guests. It was more of an asphalted area for about 4 cleverly parked cars down by reception and 3 further up the hill. Anyone else would need to park on the extremely narrow Madeira Street. Reception: The... more
Satisfactory, but a bit run down
Slightly dated hotel in Ventor. Room satisfactory, bathroom a bit cramped. Large grounds with tennis court and miniature golf. If with children, may sure they know where the top of the cliff is - it isn't particulary well fenced. Having said that there isn't a vertical drop, but it is still steep. Food was reasonable but service wasn't very professional. Good view from dining room over the sea was slightly spoilt by the dirty windows and another window that was broken and wouldn't shut.
Great views and food
My wife and I had a great 2 night stay. Very welcoming and friendly family who run the hotel. The evening meal in their restaurant was excellent, and we enjoyed walks along the Ventnor/Bonchurch coastline.
Loved It!
Stayed here for two nights in early May and can highly recommend it. New owner John is doing the rooms up and the hotel has a great 'feel'. Not a place for rowdy teenagers - but great for adults and young families. Informal, homely atmosphere. Excellent restaurant, great views and peaceful. Tennis, heated pool and pitch and putt golf. You can walk along the seafront to Ventnor or Bonchurch.
Could be a great hotel
The Ventnor Towers is location, location, location. Lovely sea views, nice spacious grounds, tennis court, swimming pool, it deserves its 3 stars for all those. Restaurant also above average, we enjoyed a nice dinner there (mussels, steak, tipsy bread & butter pudding - gorgeous) with IOW wine and liqueurs, and breakfast was good too - full English not a massive portion but nicely cooked, and if you have already had cereals/fruit/yoghurt (all available) plus toast while you are waiting for it to be cooked, then you don't really need more... more
Great Views & Location
The selling points about this hotel is its location - both having easy walking access to the restaurants and pubs in Ventnor, and its location overlooking the Channel. Rooms were OK, with comfortable beds, though they were tired in many ways, augmented by being in a flat roof 70s annexe. The TV barely got reception & the bathroom was in desperate need of a refit. But the views were good & it was comfortable ... ! Outdoor facilities were excellent - a great pool & pitch/putt course. And there were numerous sitting areas around the... more
Spectacular views
This is what a stay in a hotel should be about. The owners have obviously tried so hard, all the little touches are there that make your stay that extra bit more comfortable. The staff are so welcoming, friendly and efficient. The rooms are not luxurious but there is everything you need and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a hotel. Dinner is not award winning but is well cooked and tasty. And the views... just stunning. I enjoyed the little balcony outside our room. A hidden gem. We loved... more
