Pedn Olva Hotel

I went to St Ives on impulse with no luggage (apart from a daypack) on a Tuesday evening in December. The Pedn-Olva was the first hotel that I found on arriving at the station. The modest street frontage hides the comfortable surroundings inside. I had dinner, bed and breakfast there, and enjoyed it all. The food is excellent, and the bedroom had a fantastic view of St Ives harbour. We stayed at the pedna olva in december, the rooms were small and getting a little tired, great views tho. we were in basement, just two rooms there, could here people walking above our heads, and when the people in the next room left at 8am, the cleaner came in and started banging the doors, (fire doors on a spring) when i looked out of our door and requested that she be a little quieter, she said she had nothing to block door open with, ( i suggested a towel ), agree with otheres staff are young and untrained, two out of three lights in... more

We rented a car in central London and motored our way down to St Ives on the strong reccomendation of friends. we had made no forward room reservations and were reccomended this hotel by the local tourist centre. the receptionist was rude to say the least, the rooms although small were clean but our view out along the beach were the equal to any beach vista that I have encountered. We dined at the Alba and that was magnificent. value for money this hotel certainly is not but what price can you put on that wonderful view.

Just returned from St. Ives and must say that we had a fantastic time apart from the problems with the solid floors. We had the de-luxe "Captains Cabin" above which was the bar/restaurant area which has solid floors so each time someone walked across the floor we could very clearly hear it in our room. Monday afternoon/early evening we were re-charging our batteries ready to go our again and whilst we were trying to relax, a child was continually running across the floor above. Booked here in January when most of the recommended places were closed for seasonal holidays and was pleasantly surprised as better than reviews suggested. First great advantage for those not driving is it is walking distance from the station. Excellent location perched on rocks close to sea level. However beware the 'deluxe with balcony' rooms. Your balcony is accessible from other guest rooms and is overlooked. As you have a large french window on to the balcony this means other guests can walk along from their room, turn around, and clearly see into your room. This defeats the object of the beautiful view across the bay! Dinner is good but breakfast awful. Microwaved croissants that are still frozen in the middle.

we spent 2 great days at the hotel with a wedding party - the food/ restaurant ( dinner and breakfast ) were top class - the bedroom quiet comfortable clean and newly decorated , the staff/service brilliant , the views from the hotel quite stunning - we very highly recommend the hotel

I thought the decor was lovely and the whole place was very clean and smart.The 2 rooms we had were well furnished but small, although the first was near the street and a bit noisy so we asked to be moved...no problem for them. We didnt eat in the restaurant but the breakfasts were excellent...and Im very fussy ! The best thing was the view from the bar and restaurant...stunning ! The Pedn Olva is right in the centre too. Our three day stay at this hotel was superb in every way. For a start its location is probably one of the best I have experienced with wonderful views towards St Ives in one direction and Carlyon Bay and Godrevy lighthouse in the other. The modern design of the hotel is a delight and the rooms while on the small side are light and airy. Food in the restaurant, which again has a view to die for, was excellent with service to match. Altogether a wonderful experience.

We had heard good things about dinner here but after suffering the worst hotel breakfast we have ever had (scrambled egg put in a microwave to cook and not even stirred, for instance) we did not venture to risk it. The bedrooms are cramped as the addition of en-suite facilities takes up the space, but also extra beds are squeezed in wherever possible to make them family rooms and to get the maximum revenue out of them.
