Fanastic Views
Really enjoyable stay the best thing about this hotel is the fantastic views over Swanage Bay lots of nice areas conservatory , dining room and lounge and garden to view.Make sure you get a sea view bedroom.Bedroom was large shower room small but adequate,Food in the restaurant very good and plentiful,. very relaxing. Car park was tight in size of spaces but never full.
Loved It
Had a two night stay here in April- what a charming place! Yes the hotel could do with a bit of refurbishment- but it can be clearly seen that the hotel is in a programme of refurb. We were looked after by all the staff - the service was fabulous without being intrusive- the rooms pleasant and comfy. The food was fabulous and i mean fabulous, definately a traditional British Seaside hotel and well worth a visit- we will definately be returning- look out for the off season offers- really good deals. Loved it
Grand rip off!
After our three night stay we can definitely say the only part of it thats Grand is the location. The hotel is very shabby and in need of complete refurbishment this includes the ensuite. The shower pressure is low so the water dribbles out, if you run a bath there is a strong smell of sewage. This we reported which was followed up two days later with 'they couldn't find anything wrong'. After our first cooked breakfast, later that day we both had an upset stomach. So for the next two mornings chose the cereal and toast option, pricey... more
Not a great stay
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in March 2008. As another review says the parking is terrible! There are only about 10 car parking spaces for a hotel which has I think 30 or so bedrooms. This means you often end up parking a long way from the hotel (as the streets around have double yellow lines) - which is not very convenient. The hotel does have an excellent position and views. The hotel is not very modern and lots of the decor is very dated and old fashioned - which probably is suited to the majority of the guests who... more
Great food. Great welcome
We have stayed several times and the warm welcome is always the same. The hotel decor may look a little dated but it is clean and appealing. The evening meal is excellent with a very varied menu and all items being well presented and perfectly cooked. The staff are helpful and attentive and the rates are fair for the standard received. The hotel grounds are well tended and the pool facilities adequate for the size of the hotel. It's position overloking the whole of the bay and swanage is wonderful. Another wonderful stay.
Actually a charming hotel
We chose Swanage as it is an unspoilt seaside town. The Grand was recommended to us by a Swanage born friend as it is known locally for good food. Tucked away in a side road as you enter Swanage from Studland, it has a well constructed red brick Edwardian facade. Since being built it has been enclosed by smarter residential developments. The hotel has fabulous views across Swanage bay - taking in the town & Durlston Park (!) on the opposite headland. Decor is fairly tradtional - heavy swags & big carpet. Were I to be niggledy... more
A nicely placed hotel overlooking Swanage Bay
We had a nice seaview room overlooking Swanage Bay. The hotel is within sound of the waves and steps (steep) lead directly to the beach. The hotel is clean although the decor is beginning to look a little faded. Reception and staff are friendly. Meals are varied and nicely presented in a dining room overlooking the sea.
Delectable Food
The first thing that struck us about the Grand was its pole position overlooking the beautiful turquoise coloured bay, of course it was sunny! Inside the hotel the staff were warm, friendly and courteous and seemed pleased to be helping us to enjoy our stay. The 'piece de resisitance' for us however, was the food. Not only was each dish a pretty picture to look at, it was also a treat to the palate AND there was plenty of it for our requirements but I am sure if you have a gargantuan appetite this lovely staff would be only too... more
Short break with an elderly relative
Fabulous view in a lovely part of Swanage. Great gardens and access to a lovely beach We paid extra for a twin sea view room which was of a reasonable standard Bathroom and bedroom looked clean but try looking under the TV or moving the beds!! No mention on booking or on the web site that car parking is terrible. Very limited spaces and although the hotel will reimburse car park fees the nearest car park is a fair walk away. Easier not to move the car for the whole stay!! No offer of help with my luggage even though I was... more
Not all that grand, but great value
We have stayed at this hotel several times, most recently on a winter package. It's probably the best hotel in Swanage, but that's not saying a lot, unfortunately. It's time that lovely old resort had better hotels - we usually stay in nearby Wareham or Poole now. The building is old and may once have been grand, but it shows signs of cheap building alterations to fit in bathrooms and the bedrooms in the roof, especially, feel really odd amongst the rafters with lots of odd corners and bits to bang your head on. However it's good value and... more
