A modest resting-place
Spent 2 nights there playing bridge - package of full board + bridge booked by the organizers - simple clean rooms, friendly helpful staff (include a barman prepared to comment intelligibly on the current financial situation!) little 'atmosphere', bar and wine prices very reasonable; dinner menu imaginative and properly served; breakfast buffet disappointing, food too cold but order the 'specials' and you're fine except avoid the porridge at all costs - the cook hasn't a clue! Lunch also buffet style - cold selection excellent, hot... more

Too inconsistent to recommend...
I really wanted to like the Marsham Court and it did have some good points: Excellent location and views (from the sea view room); Helpful, friendly staff (excepting Reception - see below); Early 20th century grandeur (at least on the ground floor - see below). Sadly, the bad far outweighed the good: The most indifferent reception staff I have ever encountered. Not even a "Thank you" or "Hope you enjoyed your stay" when I checked out, nor an offer of help with heavy luggage. Particularly worrying as the 'General... more

Typical run down hotel!
What can I say, the location and views were great but that's about it. The bedroom was in desperate need of redecorating, wallpaper coming of the walls, bathroom very dated. The whole hotel is in need of a make over. The pool was great and used it each day. Good selection of food at breakfast. Car park a complete nightmare, no organisation at all. A very below average hotel.

Ghasly dump of a place
Well, where do I begin, when you arrive at this supposed "hotel" you have firstly to circumnavigate the parking and park in the back which I was not told when I spoke to the hotel prior to our arrival. My wife had booked this break as a surprise for the family, well it sure was a surprise but certainley not in any good way whatsoever. On check in we were greeted by surley and slovenly reception staff who quite clearly would rather gossip amongst themselves that check in a paying guest. The room was dated with peeling wallpaper... more

Typical run-down UK seaside hotel.
This hotel is badly in need of refurbishment. The decor, although impressive in the public rooms, in the bedrooms and corridors has seen much better days. It is typical early nineties nursing home decor and furniture. I kept waking up thinking I had finally realised my nightmare and had been put away to retire in some institution. My bedroom was spacious and comfortable. I had a large bathroom, but it was basic, ancient and shoddy. The staff were pleasent and helpful, apart from one dragon behind the reception. There was a lot... more

overpriced
Just had one night (14th June 2008) in a double room with balcony. It cost £150, which I think is a bit steep, considering the room was very dated - clean but shabby - and the bathroom tiny. No wonder people do not stay a whole week in a hotel in UK - far too expensive, cheaper to go abroad! Be aware that there is decorating going on outside, so scaffolding on large portion of the front, so if you are booking, do ask where your room is, or you may wake to builders looking in your bedroom window! Bit of a trek uphill from the beach to... more

Nothing changes - still poor
Reading reviews today in 2008 brings back all the memories of our stay 14 months ago. The public areas were all scruffy, unkempt and not properly cleaned. We took a bar meal to our bedroom because we could not find a clean table in the bar - this about sums it up. The service was poor in the restaurant and did not improve much elsewhere. We will definitely not go there again despite the location and the potential. If the management cannot address basic hygiene in public areas what on earth is it like behind the scenes. Furthermore... more

Not ready for the nursing home just yet
We recently stayed here for a ballroom dance break. Arrival at the hotel is through the car park at the rear, use a critical eye and you will see that maintenance-wise, things don't get any better inside. This hotel is popular with coach parties. There is no problem with the staff wherever they work, they work willingly and pleasantly. The food is fair, hotel fare, certainly not unedible, even good on occasion. That said any criticism must be fairly laid at the feet of management. The appalling failue to observe and act quickly... more

Very Professional
Our recent stay was a very enjoyable experience. We found the food & restaurant service was very good. The room we had was clean & comfortable. When the fire alarm went off in the early hours one morning a pot of tea was forthcoming when I went to investigate. Being a family run hotel the staff were pleasant & efficient. There was a very relaxed atmosphere wherever you went. We would certainly stay there again

Shabby and expensive!
We were booked in for a local conference. The room was filthy, sheets not changed, human hair over the floor, bathroom very poor condition with sewage coming up through the plug hole. Complaints made, sheets changed, hair left, and sewage continued to come up!! Staff member also barged into room twice, one quick knock on the door then she let herself in, no privacy!! The young staff in the dining room were nice though, pity the accomodation was not up to their performance! Never use it again the whole place is in desperate need of... more
