Toorak
Kate, my young (28) Polish photographer colleague and I (74) stayed at the Toorak in October 2008. I am a journalist and this is the first time in 23 weekends, sometimes longer, in 20 countries within the last two years that we have been given proper single rooms. It was excellent and she, in particular, was most impressed with all the facilities available in the rooms and the complex. I have been going there,on and off, but usually to the Derwent, for ten years, but always alone. I was a bit nervous about taking her to the South of... more
Toorak hotel -TLH Leisure
Booked the Toorak as a last minute break, still paid full price, but to us as a family it was worth every penny. My husband, daughter and myself loved this hotel. We had a front facing Riveria room, which cost extra, but we think it was worth the it. It looked out on to the out door swimming pool, old Abbey and we could see the sea also. Big room with DVD player. The room itself was very pleasant, could have done with a new carpet, there were a few stains on the one which was there and the toilet moved about a little, but it just seemed to... more
Great location, great facilities, varying quality of accommodation
A friend recommended this hotel because of the great location (pleasant walk through the park to the sea) plus the fab facilities listed in other reviews below - new Aztec pool is wonderful - but did not know the std of accomm so we booked blind. For future reference - the Carlton is the best accomm as it has just been fully rennovated throughout the bedrooms (which is probably why there were no rooms avail). The Toorak is the next in quality and the others come lower down the line apparently. We only booked a week ahead so can't really... more
Been here a lot and perfect for kids
I have stayed here with family on many occasions and it is perfect for children. The rooms are fine, especially the riviera front facing superior rooms as they are bigger and a bit more attractive. The food has always been really good, evening meal superb. There are plenty of places to drink within the complex at night, conway bar, Arena Games, Alberts Bar etc etc. The leisure complex is really nice, with a lovely aztec pool, spa, bistro, coffee shop and gym. There are also a few outdoor pools for the summer months. For tiny tots there is a... more
excellent family holiday
spent half term at the hotel and had a great time- indoor facilities were excellent as was the service from the friendly staff and great food, looking forward to our next visit - children can't wait!
New Year - Toorak Hotel
Stayed at the Toorak for New Year, 1st night waiter very rude, insisted we'd ordered certain meals when we hadn't. Although entertainment great in their other hotels very substandard in the Toorak, pub style disco when sister hotels had cabaret etc. Main hotel bar closed at 9.30pm on last night so had to call night porter for service. Poor guy was worn out with around 40 people expecting a fully opened bar. Superior rooms very nice but looking tired. Shame because this used to be a great hotel.
On the whole, a nice hotel
This was our second visit to this resort. The staff were friendly and courteous, the food was very good and the leisure facilities plentiful. We did have a problem however with the poor state of the bedrooms we were allocated. We booked two standard rooms, they were shabby, a little smelly and located just above the kitchens. The only view from the window was that of the kitchen roof and a bunch of electric cables. The extractor fan from the kitchen was located directly under the children's bedroom window, consequently there was... more
Give the Toorak a try
The Toorak is well worth spending time at for a UK holiday. It is part of 4 hotels in the TLH complex each of which have differences in style and (to an extent) quality. Our rooms were clean well furnished though a bit noisy in early morning due to their position above the kitchen areas. Having a pool and tennis court close to the rooms is good enough in itself but what really sold the place to us was the quality of the food which was excellent throughout the stay. Staff were very attentive throughout. With the other TLH... more
Lots to do at TLH
We have just returned from a weekend break at the Toorak Hotel in the TLH Leisure Resort. I felt it was very good value at £126pp for 2 nights' dinner, bed & breakfast, and no single supplement for my elderly father who had a proper single room. We had superior rooms with welcome packs including biscuits & chocolates, also hairdryers which the standard rooms do not. Also a safe with a nominal charge of 50p per day. Breakfasts were excellent - a buffet with fruit/cereals/juices plus cooked to order hot breakfasts. (I didn't like the... more
Good location, warm staff
As part of the TLH Leisure Resort, the Toorak has good facilities and the terrace rooms in particular are good. Other rooms in the hotel can be poor. We stay here every year while attending a conference across the road at the Riviera Centre for which it is very conveniently located. A big plus this year was the quality of service from the staff. The food is OK. The dinner menu is OK. They let themselves down with the quality of their bread and little details like that. The heated outdoor swimming pool and croquet lawns are big plus factors.
