Not great value
Not too impessed I'm afraid! On the plus side, The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the common areas are OK if a little clinical. The location is OK if you are on business and want a quick getaway onto the motorway. but leisure users are well away from the town centre. On the downside, there didnt seem to be enough double bedrooms (I hate single beds!), the air-con is too severe, the rooms are very basic in furnishings and decor, there is no bath (just shower) and breakfast is very poor. Nothing cooked - just cereal... more
On the outskirts, good parking, nice hotel, slightly cramped breakfast
I've had good luck with Holiday Inn & again this was a good place. Nice rooms, very clean & great parking. The breakfast room was a bit cramped & the food wasn't replenished quite as fast as I would have liked, but overall it was good, I would stay there again.
clean and friendly
Clean and friendly sums up this hotel. We've stayed here two or three times a year for the past 4 years and never have any complaints. The rooms are a good size and clean with excellent bathrooms and showers. The breakfasts provide a good choice of cereals, fruit, toast etc etc. The location is also good, right opposite the "park and ride" into Exeter town centre which only costs £1.50 return, and gets you there in 10 minutes with a bus every 12 minutes. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we'll continue to stay... more
Poor Security
This hotel is a standard Holiday Inn Express - the rooms are clean and tidy and the staff are friendly enough. However, the beer is on the pricey side and the food is basic buffet style, so at £85/night, this makes it not so good on value for money. The pub next door offers better value for food and drink. As mentioned on some of the other reviews, there is a busy "A"-class road just outside the hotel and the M5 motorway can be viewed from some rooms, so the traffic noise can be a problem - especially during the morning rush hour... more
Near but oh so far!
On the edge of the city by the Med Office you will find the Holiday Inn Express - rotten location if you want to go into the city to have a look round but fine for a solo business trip - just give yourself about 45 mins - hour to drive the 1.5 miles into the city centre the next morning - thus the title of the review. A large carpark & a old fashioned 'brand new' pub / restuarant are next to the hotel. Reception & check - in ecellent, room standard as always in HI was also excellent - the meal the old brand new pub was good &... more
Good budget hotel
Stayed for one night in August 2005. Excellent check-in (I am a Priority Club member and room cards were ready on arrival). Got a special rate (£49). Usual Holiday Inn express room, but no air conditionning (a pity as the room was warm). Satisfactory breakfast. Convenient location for M5 & A30, not so good for Exeter City Centre.
Typical HI Express
A typical Holiday Inn Express – basic but clean Rooms are satisfactory & the staff are pleasant & friendly. Breakfast included in price. You need a car as too far from city to walk. Fine for an overnight stay – or if you need somewhere to house a family overnight in 1 room.
Generic, but perfectly adequate
Nothing special either way--just your basic, bland, plain-vanilla lodging that could have been in Exeter or Peoria or anywhere else in the developed world.
comfortable but disappointing
I was there on a cold, wet March night. The room was freezing and radiator could not be turned up. Reception would not bring me a heater up I had to collect it myself and it was ineffectual. Staff were surly and unhelpful. Bed was very comfortable but not enough blankets. Breakfast adequate. Comfortable but instantly forgettable.RW
As you'd expect
Stayed for a 2 night business trip - everything you'd expect from this chain. Clean, tidy, twin room. Good facilities in general. Room didn't have iron as standard which is a drag when travelling on business. Buffet breakfast from 6:30 was ideal. Evenng meals provided by on-site pub serving until 10:00pm - choice of food good for a few nights.
