Frosty Service
A group of 7 family members including two children (3 and 6) stayed at the hotel in July 2004. The setting is magical unfortunately the service at the hotel isn't. Although the hotel said that children were welcome it certainly isn't a 'child friendly' hotel - children are not allowed in the restaurant after 7pm and they are not permitted in the public lounges after 9pm unless they are sitting 'quite' (their spelling mistake not mine)!! Staff at the hotel seemed to regard us as an inconvenience - whenever we entered the hotel via... more
Wonderful Victoria sponge
Haven't stayed here but have enjoyed several afternoon teas in the conservatory overlooking the beach. The victoria sponge (it's served covered in strawberries and cream) tastes as fresh as if it's just been baked. Staff are helpful and friendly so far as my experience goes.
great views
A fantastic location but.. parts of the hotel are in need of refurbishment. Disappointed with room, not as described in brochure "superior with sea view and touches of elegance", we do not know where the touches of elegance were, room was rather shabby and grubby in parts, bathroom a tad small. Hotel did change rooms for us and replacement was acceptable, but considering both rooms were classed as the same, one cannot compere them. We did not dine in the evening but there was a wide choice at breakfast. Would we use the hotel... more
Great Location
We chose to stay here due to location and wanting to be near the beach which we got - fantastic. However for the standard of the hotel we were staying in some areas we feel need to be addressed as they were on a par with a local B and B. Reception - very dated and needs sprucing up. The bedroom size was fine although when told we would have a partial sea view did not realise that meant 1 metre of sand and sea!. Bathroom was great but the room itself was very old fashioned and its felt a little claustrophobic walking to your room as... more
Views and food fantastic!
I've just had a spendid week at the Carbis Bay Hotel, (middle of May) with its wonderful site right by the beach. The food was consistently excellent, as was the service. The room was warm, clean and towels were changed daily or as required. I had a nice view of the sea, even if it was a side view It is very handy for St Ives, and a splendid centre for touring as there is lots to see. My only complaint is that there is no lift, but a porter was available to take my suitcase upstairs - and that it was too early to use the swimming pool.
Wish you were there
An enjoyable four days, our bedroom was spotless, the towels changed every day. The meals were excellent, the sweets were "to die for". The management very pleasant and apologetic for the building work being carried out. I have only one complaint, the four days was not long enough and we cannot wait for the next time
Cornish Hospitality with excellent food
We have just been to stay at the Carbis Bay Hotel, in Cornwall, England, UK. ( March 2004 ).We found that the hotel was very good, in that the bedlinen was clean and the towels changed a room well cleaned every day of our stay of 5 days. The meals were of a high standard and the four course evening meal was excellent, with five choices, incl., a vegetarian meal, the selection altering every night. As to the staff they were competent, helpful and friendly, as were the owners/managers Mr M Baker and his son, who were generally on hand to... more
Faded & Jaded
Oh dear.....how much we agree with the previous poor reviews. After several idylic years spent at Carbis Bay Hotel whose setting is a serious rival to anythng the Carribbean can offer, with great emotion we have said 'farewell' to the old lady, for all the reasons noted by other reviewers. However, we have always found the staff most courteous and 'unobtrusive' - just as we like it. It is the general decline in previous excellent standards for a hotel of this class that has been the final straw for us... more
Other residences nearby ...
Mixed! Restaurant & food service excellent. Our room genuinely grubby (stained bedclothes; lots of dustetc), though friends' room good. Room phone not working or fixed until 3rd complaint. Likewise TV remote. Desk excuses feeble (e.g. "could not enter room"; yet housemaid room service had taken place)! Site of hotel outstanding. A wonderful area to visit.
The Carbis Bay Hotel
This is really a great place to stay. Right on the beach, beautiful views, good food, private pool, friendly staff. The location is amazing, on sunny days, which were frequent in my experience, there was the sandy beach and nice wavy sea, good for learning to surf. Walks along the coastal path, a beach shop for convenience and a terraced pool . If it rains, there is a large conservatory bar, with spectacular views out across the bay. The area is great for art lovers, fun lovers and it is well worth visiting , a memorable experience.
