Swinside Lodge Hotel

Stayed at Swinside Lodge for two nights and it was a real treat from start to finish. A beautiful house in a great location at the foot of Cat Bells. Warm and hospitable hosts. It was tipping it down with rain when we arrived and Eric Fell came out to meet us at the car with a great big umbrella. That kind of thoughtfulness set the tone for the rest of our stay. We have just come back from a 2 night stay at this hotel which lived up to all expectations and more. On arrival the complimentary pot ot tea and biscuits in the lounge was a nice touch and made us feel welcome. What can I say about the food that hasn't been said it was wonderful and the care and attention to detail that goes into the running of the hotel is due to Eric and Irene who were gracious hosts nothing was too much trouble to them.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Swinside Lodge . The food was outstanding. In our experience of visiting the lakes for over 30 years this was without doubt the most welcoming and comfortable hotel with the best food we have experienced Eric and Irene ( the owners) privde attn to all the details that matter in terms of an enjoyable stay . Whilst staying at Braithwaite in the Lake District we enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Swinside Lodge Hotel & Restaurant. The hotel is set in a glorious country setting and in its own grounds. This is an ideal place to go when wanting to enjoy that special meal out. Even the heavy rains couldn't diminish our enjoyment of Swinside Hotel. Eric and Irene were gracious hosts exemplifying the idea of attention to detail. The country house atmosphere encouraged the guests to interact before, during, and after dinner. And what a dinner it was! All four couples wanted to extend their stay because we were all having so much fun.

In the heart of the English Lakes: hiking and boating, horse backriding,wild scenery and charming English gardens and houses. This is the truly at the center of it all. AND the food and company are fabuous. Not an impersonal hotel, and more than the bed and breakfast inn; a small and very personal home shared with friends.

Very plesant place to stay - our host possibly a bit too solicitious. The food was absolutley fantastic. I believe that the chef is going to publish a book of recipes and I shall be at the front of the queue to buy it. Our room wasn't very large but my only real complaint is that the shower was really feeble and washing my hair took forever, not least because I forgt how soft the water is in this part of the world and it took ages to get the soap out of it but this is a minor gripe. I'll certainly go back when I'm next in the vicinity

Swinside Lodge is a joy. A picturesque and comfortable country house set at the foot of Catbell, near Keswick in the Newlands Valley, which must be one of the most beautiful locations anywhere. The hotel has an air of complete relaxation and is an ideal base for walking or touring. The welcome is truly wonderful and the food in the small award-winning restaurant is a delight. A cautionary note. When booking - ask about the cancellation policy (they don't tell you about it unless you ask.) If you have to cancel (even way in advance)you will find you have lost your deposit and you could be liable for the whole cost of your room (minus food.) This came as a real shock to me when I tried to cancel. As a result of my complaint I received an appallingly rude email from one of the owners and a life-time ban from the hotel!

Went there a few years ago... it was delightful.
