Excellent - Cannot wait to go back again
Lairbeck is a charming and excellent place to stay. This was our second time staying since the new owners took over, and I have to say I think it has much improved since Roger and Irene ran the hotel. The food is excellent, freshly cooked and of superb quality, just the food you want after a day out walking. There is a warm and cosy atmosphere and we were greeted warmly by the new owners. All the staff are friendly and made our stay very comfortable. Our room was spotless and tidy and that goes for the whole hotel. We... more
Escape to the Lairbeck!
My wife and I have visited the Lairbeck many times over a number of years. Last visit was November 2007 and as always we had excellent service and great hospitality. Although the ownership has changed recently it was difficult to see any differences. The superior room we requested was as expected, clean and spacious. The food excellent with a good choice of wine. The location is also excellent for those who want to be out of town but within walking distance of the centre. The private parking is a boon when compared with many... more
Excellent hospitality
This was our first stay at Lairbeck & we will definitely be returning! The hospitality was fantastic, the owners, Malcolm & Jennifer Hutchinson, were very welcoming and could not do enough for us. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean & had fantastic views over Skiddaw! We intended to go into Keswick town for an evening meal & drinks, but the hotel menu & cosy bar area with log fire were far too tempting to resist. I was not at all surprised to find Lairbeck was fully booked when we were there, and after such a... more
Lairbeck not what it was!
What a shame that Irene and Roger Coy have gone: taking with them their style, panache and attention to detail. I have been staying at the Lairbeck with the same group of friends for at least the last thirteen years, we will not go again. The menu for the evening meal has been cut to barely adequate, from what was previously a 'spoilt for choice' selection. Beds were carelessly tidied, one could hardly tell anyone had been in the room!! As we were leaving and paying our bills, we found we were all being overcharged (for a meal we had... more
Glad to be back.
We promised to return and we did, fortunately.Nothing had changed. Hospitality, comfort, meals and staff were all superb. Nearly all the guests(12 certainly) were on return visits and booking for next year. They've certainly got it right here.Must go back yet again.
Victorian Country House, built in 1875.
An interesting house... and spotlessly clean! The food was agreeable - breakfast comes as part of the tariff and dinner is optional 'though should be pre-booked. For dinner there were three choices of starter, main course and dessert. NB If last to dinner, your options might be reduced. Quite flexible in terms of possible group configurations. There seemed to be single rooms, doubles, twin rooms and a family room. Fourteen rooms in total. Nice garden, and a good view from the bedroom. (The Teacher's Room). The only... more
Overrated and pricey, for what it is!
First, the good points: Good service from the breakfast staff. Owners polite and friendly. Spotlessly clean. Set in lovely surroundings. BUT we were stuck in a room way up in the rafters, with beams criss-crossing the room (not much fun for those over six feet tall, actually make that five feet!), a bath you could barely stand up in, hence no shower facilities and were charged £41 per person for the privilege! My wife and I have stayed in Keswick many times at many B&B's, most are good, the bad ones I could count on one hand. But... more
Superb Hospitality & Staff
My wife and I have been returning to this gem of a place for over 12 years now and would not dream of staying anywhere else in Keswick. Lairbeck is a small, privately-run hotel in its own grounds on the outskirts of the town (10 minutes walk) and is run by its very welcoming owners, Irene & Roger Coy. The hotel has 14 rooms, all spotlessly clean, and also has a very low turnover of staff always a good sign of a friendly working atmosphere. The food is truly excellent, but anyone wanting exotic sauces or<br... more
Laidback Lairbeck
The truly wonderfully relaxed atmosphere of this hotel is evident as soon as you cross the threshold. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished. The food is terrific and is well worthy of the rewards it has received. This together with the attention to detail displayed by hosts Roger and Irene Coy made this a very memorable break. We shall return.
Good, but ask about room size
The meals are certainly good (not fabulous, but good, filling, country fare). The hospitality is outstanding. But you had better ask about the Skiddaw room and it was no bigger than a postage stamp. We could barely fit all our luggage and ourselves in the room! The bed was not very comfortable (the worst of our two week trip), but the place was immaculately clean and that counts for more with me than a firm bed. I think that if you were to have a decent sized room (and they do have them!), you would have a lovely stay here. the gardens... more
