Beyond perfect is possible
Was not to sure what to expect having not stayed here before, but having stayed so many times in the Lakes and in particular Grasmere. I had visions of a horror parking, something Grasmere suffers from occasionally, but was pleasantly surprised at the amount of parking. The reception handled us nicely and we were escorted to our room. Dont argue with the bellman, he 'will' carry your bag and disappear having done so. The room was very recently renovated, they are doing the whole place over the coming weeks and months. The linens were... more
perfect for a getaway
We had a truly fabulous stay in the room with the balcony, with gorgeous views, enormous comfy bed and massive bathroom. It had just been redecorated in a classic/modern style and we were told that the rest of the hotel is being done the same way. The staff were so attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Since they are going through a refurbishment, there was a bit of disruption to the restaurant, but it in no way affected the food. We had an evening meal and breakfast which was truly scrumptious, excellent. Try the cheese souffle! We... more
Beautiful Hotel.
We stayed here because the other hotel we stay in was fully booked on the night we wanted to stay & we were so glad we did. The staff & rooms are lovely & are a real credit to the Hotel. We were lucky to get an upgrade as well so it made our 1st stay at this Hotel extra special :-) The night we stayed our neighbours were quite noisey so we were woke up a couple of times & we ended up over sleeping & missed breakfast. I am sure the breakfast was very good if the rest of the Hotel was anything to go by. Breakfast was 8am untill 9-30am... more
A thoroughly enjoyable New Year!
It was with some trepidation (having read the reviews on trip advisor) that I made the long drive to Grasmere for New Year after my partner booked a three night package. I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food, newly refurbished bedroom and the staff who were generally very friendly and welcoming. Walking out of the front door of the hotel into a lovely village in the heart of the Lake District with everything you need on your doorstep was such a bonus to a great break. I would recommend this hotel to anyone else wishing... more
Oh my god what a weekend...
Gorgeous hotel, such a contrast to to the hustle and bustle of Manchester. The Wordsworth is a charming hotel in a fab lakeland village. Stayed in room 7 which had views of the fells which last weekend were covered in snow - was like looking at a painting when I looked out the window! We got upgraded to a luxury room which was a lovely surprise. Hotel has new owners, they personally made an effort to chat to us which was very nice. Great hotel, wonderful place.
4* classic country house hotel at it's best
It was my first time in the Lakes and it is so stunning and The Wordsworth Hotel was the kind of hotel you see in films. From the log fire in the entrance hall, to the gorgeous views. Stayed in a luxury room, was well worth the extra, had views of the fells which was out of this world. Hotel has new owners who were so friendly and really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay - have already booked our next visit in March!
what can I say would have prefered a chippy
my husband took me to the Wordsworth for my birthday, when we 1st arrived the gentleman on reception sat us down in the lounge, we waited for about 10 minutes then another gentleman that had been floating around acting as if he was busy decided to ask if we would like something to drink, we asked what wine he would recommend I had a glass of white whilst my husband had a glass of red when they brought our drinks they also brought the canopies and we had to ask for the wine list. We ordered a bottle of bollinger which at the time was... more

I'm sorry you didn't have the best food, since your stay the hotel now has new owners, a new head chef, refurbished bedrooms and a brand new restaurant, so I do hope you will come again and see the drastic improvements.

classy hotel in an idyllic location
hotel has new owners who seem to have made a lot of improvements since our last visit. found staff to be really welcoming and good sense of humour. it was freezing outside, so when we walked into the reception with log fire, we felt we'd arrived home. room had 4 poster bed and was clean and spacious. food is top standard and service was attentive but not overbearing. would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable getaway in a hotel with quality food, helpful staff and vintage character.
I reccommend The Wordsworth Hotel as a place to stay in the Lakes.
I booked a weekend break at the Wordsworth having been qouted a huge amount of money to stay at the Langdale Hotel ( a hotel I have previously stayed at). The recepionist suggested the breakfast and evening meal tarrif as this represented good value. After booking I looked at some of the reviews. There were quite a lot of negatives! However, I would say to anybody contemplating a stay at The Wordsworth, do NOT take notice of the negative reviews. The hotel is lovely , the pool clean and warm, the staff polite efficient and friendly without... more
Needs an on-site manager to meet /greet guests and run the staff.
Our stay was early Jan and there were 10 in our party. It was a birthday celebration for my husband. We were the first to arrive . Given that the hotel knew 10 people would be arriving , the public areas should have had some form of heating. We checked in and then went back to reception to ask for the lounge to be heated .There was no-one at reception nor was there anyone behind the bar. Eventually we found some-one and she lit the fire.Other members of our party arrived and we were allocated our rooms. It transpires that tea and coffee... more

I am very sorry to hear about your experience at The Wordsworth back in January 2009. I am happy to say the hotel is now under new ownership and we are striving to make the hotel as good as it can be! In response to your comments which I have read with interest I can tell you all rooms now have complimentary tea & coffee facilties, all our log fires are burning all day every day, afternoon tea is offered 7 days week. As for all the staff being foreign, well we do have a mix of nationalities, but I would say at the moment 70% of our staff our British. Once again sorry your stay at The Wordsworth wasn't more enjoyable - I hope you will come again and experience the 4 * treatment now offered!
