Never Use the Westin Resort Aruba
We took our wedding and honeymoon to the WEstin Aruba. From the start we were not treated in a respectful manner nor did anything we requested and was assured was put in the room was not done. We were over charged by $570 on the first day 25th April 2007 when they stated our room was 1200 due to us paying a deposit. On 26 April 2007, we were then charged an additional $1770.00 which added to be $3500. My Fiance now wife was crying on our wedding day up to 2 hours and didnt want to get married due to how the hotel and operations manager... more
Loved Arbua, Didn't Love the Westin
I should have rebooked after reading the negative reviews. I booked online a month in advance, and didn't think I would have anything to worry about-it is a Westin after all. I decided to look at the tripadvisor reviews anyway, and was very worried, but stuck with it. I took the advice of others and emailed the hotel in advance for an even numbered room. After 10 emails back and forth between myself and a woman named Brenda, I gave up. She pretty much refused to help me out-and was not helpful AT ALL. I decided to email the general manager,... more
Just "OK". Not yet a True Westin
Westin usually ranks right up there with Hyatt. Granted the Westin in Aruba is new and was converted from a Wyndham hotel. Nevertheless, the Westin in Aruba has a long way to go and a lot of things to change if it wants to match up with the Hyatt just down the beach. Its not on the level of the Hyatt so you don't pay Hyatt fees and thus you get what you pay for. The lobby is nothing special. The Bell Boys were very helpful. Check-in was uneventful. The Casino is dated and needs a substantial ventilation upgrade. There was just too... more
Great stay...still not quite a Westin.
After reading reviews for months, I have to admit we were a little concerned about staying. I was thrilled that we stuck it out and chose to stay. Here is my very lengthy review. Check-in: Upon arrival we were greeted by plenty of assistance with baggage, the fresh lemonade and cold hand/face towels. This was a very welcoming touch. We were checked in immediately by Chantal and all of our requests were accommodated and she was very pleasant. As for other front desk staff, they truly need work. I think we were lucky to check in at the... more
Loved Aruba!
Aruba was fantastic - I would definitely recommend going there. The natives said it is great weather all year round and is not in the hurricane belt, so you will not have bad weather at all. The Westin was okay. We took a look at other hotels while we were there to check them out, and we were impressed with the Marriott and the Phoenix. They seemed more tropical. The Westin was more American looking, almost like you were in Boston or NYC. I never wanted to get up and wait in line for an hour for a hut because they were close... more
Great vacation!
We just returned from the Westin Aruba and had to put to rest all the negative reviews of this hotel.I booked an oceanview room with my Starwood points and then upgraded to an oceanfront suite for $60 night.Well worth it! We arrived at hotel at 1.30 pm and our room was ready and very nice. The service in this hotel was excellent and everyone went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We went to the dinner show and the comedy club, which we got free tickets for, when booking the dinner and show together.Pago Pago was also... more
Good for the money
The Westin is nice, but not among the nicest places on the Island from what I saw. The important things such as the pool and beach, food and drinks, the heavenly shower and bed, and overall service were generally good to very good. The concierges, doormen, activities staff, waiters and even the folks at the desk were helpful (once you got to them). The room was well laid out, spacious, clean, nicely appointed and everything worked; nifty TV, too. We asked for a fridge, which came quickly and worked fine. We definitely enjoyed the free... more
Great Resort, a few things though...
We checked in on Good Friday. Only a few people on line but moved very slow. We are Starwood Platinum members so we were upgraded from an island view to an ocean view which was very nice. Full view of the ocean and pool area. On the downside, our room was not ready and we were told it would be in 45 minutes. We ate at the restaraunt on the beach while we waited. The food was good and it was right on the beach. We went back to the desk to see if our room was ready and had to wait another 45 minutes. During our wait I left my digital... more
Great time at Westin Aruba
We came back on Feb from our 6th trip to Aruba in 4 years. Each time we stayed at Westin that used to be a Windham The hotel is in the process of completing a major renovation. The improvements in the rooms and surroundings are significant. The beds are a lot more comfortable and the rooms are redesigned and have new flat screen TV’s. The towels and the pool chairs were changed and are a lot better. Everything else is the same the friendly service, the beautiful beach and calm water and the very friendly parrots.... more
A good stay, but not without issues
I've only written one other review on TripAdvisor, and that was when I thought people were giving the Ritz in Maui a bad rep. After reading the reviews on this hotel before our trip, I was prepared to write up another review to defend it, but honestly, this hotel shoots itself squarely in the foot. Don't get me wrong: the property (and Aruba) is gorgeous. The room is modern and clean. We had a great view, and overall we had a nice stay. (see pics) We started out with a 3 hour wait for our room. That in itself wouldn't have... more
