DREADFUL!! and NOT as they say 'Dog Friendly'!
from Roomer1
We booked a last minute 4 day break after visiting the website. We booked over the phone directly with the hotel and where told that it was a 'doggy friendly hotel'. They said the only area dogs where not allowed was where food was served - What they negelcted to inform us is that ALL AREAS SERVE FOOD! Including the bar! On arrival, after lugging our bags upstairs ourselves with a rather large box of dog toys and food and a rather large Golden Retriever, we dropped the stuff and headed to the bar for a much needed drink after a 7...

Management response from CrantockBayHotel
An unfortunate review but as it contains several spurious comments I feel compelled to respond.
Health and Safety Law dictates that NO DOGS are allowed in public areas of any hotel (other than guide dogs). To back this point up all of our literature, both on-line and printed, clearly states the following "DOGS ARE MOST WELCOME EXCEPT IN THE PUBLIC ROOMS". Owners and their dogs have been staying at Crantock Bay for over fifty years and this is the first time that there has been a issue with this policy.
Room service is NEVER charged as a supplement, either for the food itself or for the delivery thereof. Not a single one of these alleged charges appears on the bill in question.
I will concede that my Housekeeping Department neglected to service the bedroom in question. To rectify the situation my Head Receptionist and a Director of the company serviced the room as it appeared to be the quickest solution. I was the guests' decision to leave the room whilst this was carried out. However, as recompense a 10% discount was given, not just for that day, BUT FOR THE WHOLE HOLIDAY, which unsurprisingly has been omitted from the report.
Perfect for Pampering

Myself and 2 friends have just returned from a weekend of pure bliss at the Crantock Bay Hotel. We booked in for a 2-night Spa Break, which included Bed & Breakfast, 4 beauty treatments, Cream Teas, 4-course Dinner, morning coffee and much more. The hotel is in a perfect location, right on the coast, with its own huge beach, just perfect for walking off a large breakfast. The bedrooms are comfortable rather than luxurious but perfectly acceptable and we were given a twin room each which was great. The beauty treatments are...

Fantastic food

We went to the Crantock Bay Hotel's restaurant for my Dad's 60th Birthday celebration. We had the whole family together including 2 babies and family from Ireland. We didn't know what to expect but knew it would be a great setting overlooking Crantock beach. It was absolutely fantastic and has been talked about ever since! The chef did us proud and served up Seafood platters fit for a king. The crab, lobster, mussels, cockles, prawns piled high made my Dad's day and in his own words, was " One of the best..No, was THE best lunch he has...

Found the Crantock Bay website (in itself refreshingly accurate) and booked a last minute 4 night break. Arrived to a warm, efficient reception and checked in with no fuss. Had to carry our own bags upstairs as they don't have either lift or porter. Whilst the room was dated it was spotless, comfortable and of a very good size, as was the bathroom. The views from both bedroom and bathroom were, without exception, breathtaking. Tony and his staff were helpful, accommodating and made us feel very welcome, and the overall...

The Pros Outweighed the Cons
from Honest-Jim
We went here for a short break with another couple for two nights on a DB&B basis. The initial impression that we formed was that this place was in real need of a makeover – it does not look inviting as you drive up, painted in a shade of somewhere between institutional and army green. That impression was reinforced when shown to our bedrooms, one of which in particular stank of stale cigarette smoke. A request to change the room was met with “we do not have any ‘no smoking’ rooms at all” which I found astonishing in this day and...

How could we have only just discovered this hotel?
from yeandle
We stayed at the Crantock Bay Hotel in , surprisingly ! - Crantock Bay,North Cornwall , for the first time in early June 2006. The hotel was excellent - not cheap, but excellent value for money, with every facility you could wish for, including a super indoor pool and spa-bath. The owner of this family run hotel for several decades, plus the staff were first class and most helpful. The hotel is not a "doggy hotel" BUT, dogs are very welcome. Our labrador Cecil speaks very highly of it ! We booked one...

Great hotel - spectacular location
from A TripAdvisor Member
Wow, what a find! This hotel has the most amazing location, overlooking Crantock Beach and with views all the way up the coast. It is the most family friendly place we have ever stayed in; nothing was too much trouble and they seem to have thought of everything e.g. fridges in the bedroom and a microwave for guests to heat baby food/milk etc. The extensive leisure facilities have just been refurbished and they have also added an excellent beauty salon - just what mum's need on holiday! Fantastic food and a very personal service by...

Possibly overpriced in the Summer
from autotim
Stayed at this 3 * Hotel in July 2005. At almost 300GBP for a family room (incl breakfast & dinner) consisting of one double bed and a bunk bed for 2 kids positioned about 12cms away, this room & the food was over-priced. (4* Royal Duchy is around GBP250 by comparison). The main building of the hotel itself is run-down. The furniture is tired. Sofas had pen marks on them. Walls looked grubby. The place needs some investment. That said, the location is fabulous. There is also a cute rocky path down to Crantock Bay beach. That beach is...

The best memories....
from A TripAdvisor Member
Not been for a few years now but our family have been coming to the hotel for over 50 years. It is great; we have many memories of the hotel, the other guests, the family management and the atmosphere. One thing, make sure you go for a swim in the sea before breakfast!
It does what is says on the tin
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Crantock Bay Hotel is a joy to find in the age of marketing pictures and often meaningless or downright dishonest brochure-speak - three times now we have found that it honestly and efficiently 'does exactly what it says on the tin'. Crantock is not lavish but it is comfortable. It is not slick but it is well-managed. It is genuinely family friendly without compromising the adults and when you add a simply spectacular view - it is very hard to go wrong.
We have been to Holywell bay for the last 5 years,it is stunning, quiet and not an ice cream van in sight!!! We have learnt with Parkdean that you have to book a middle to high end range of accommodation,we usually opt for the Sennan which is a 2 or 3 bed caravan with all... more
