Hotel Noir

Booked a couple of days before we went, a little wary as there were very few reviews available! We arrived earlier than the checkin time, but were checked in anyway, which was very good as we were able to start exploring York straightaway. It only takes 10-15 minutes to walk to York Minster from the Hotel, so we were reasonably close to everything. The weather was nice when we were there so we walked everywhere. I stayed here on the 2nd weekend of August with a hen party of 12 in 3 rooms and had a terrific stay! The new owner is currently renovating the hotel-and you can really see where she is going with it. It seemed obvious that this place used to be a slightly tired bed & breakfast as the rooms that we stayed in had old wallpaper and old pine beds... but the tassimo machine, FREE minibar and flatscreen tv made up for this!! If i visit York again i am certain that i would stay here again, it would be lovely to see how the new manager has... more

Prior to making my booking I read the review on Trip advisor which gave a good write up for the hotel however I did not share the same enjoyable experience at all! The reception and bar area are lovely and shiny and new but this just makes the rooms seem even more run down. My girlfriend booked this 'hotel' for a romantic trip away for us both - unfortunately the website is misleading. This is in no way a boutique hotel, it is a partially renovated B&B. First the good points, very comfortable matress and new bed linen and towels, good location, parking is ok too. There was a flat screen TV (view obscured), coffee machine, radio, iron etc plus mini bar with free drinks, 1 beer, miniature bottle of wine, cola & water. Just reopened and the rooms are wonderful and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. We booked three rooms and they upgraded one for free and had free drinks in the fridge for us. My husband got sick and they let him stay past check out time while the rest of us went out and looked at York. We can't say enough great things about this hotel. Maureen Moor
