Romantic Yria
Hotel Yria staff greeted us at the entrance with a warm welcome and smile. We were immediately relieved of our luggage and escorted to the hotel lounge for a complimentary cocktail. The front desk clerk requested that we relax from our journey and fill out the check-in form at our convenience. We couldn't have been more pleased upon arrival. The gracious lobby space and lounge overlooking the beautiful pool was framed with billowing drapes. We found the grounds to be beautiful and relaxing. Other reviewers have complained about the... more
Five-star looks, two-star service
You can add our voices to the chorus of disappointed travellers who have encountered poor service at the Yria Hotel in Paros. My partner and I stayed at the Yria from Tuesday, June 14 to Friday, June 17, 2005 on a “Glorious Greece” island-hopping travel package arranged through Canadian tour operator World of Vacations (now called Nolitours). The Yria sits amongst lushly-landscaped, 22,000-square-metre grounds and gardens near Paraspora beach, roughly a 15-minute taxi ride from the ferry port in Paroikia. Its principal... more
Not impressed!
We stayed at the YRIA October 16 to the 19 and were not impressed with the service at this hotel. As it is classed as a luxury hotel we were really looking forward to our stay. The front desk staff are not helpful to say the least and don't really seem to care about the guests. Since it was end of season everything from the exercise room to the jaccuzi were not in service, even the breakfast buffet was terrible all because it was "end of season". Although the grounds of the hotel are beautiful, the service, or lack of, make this hotel one... more
Overrated hotel
Yria is generally rated by the tour operators 4* or 5*. Yria is also a member of slh.com (Small Luxury Hotels of the world). Well, we've been in several SLH hotels around the world but this is the only one we won't return to. It doesn't have the exclusive features of a luxury hotel at all, so don’t expect it to be. GOOD: -nice hall/lobby (confortable) -nice pool/bar area (relaxing) -well-kept gardens BAD: -The rooms are poorly furnished and equipped, no complimentary coffee/tea, no... more
Caution - Over-priced, over-rated
Please note my wife and I stayed at this hotel in mid-July 2005, as part of our honeymoon to the Greek Islands. The hotel is listed as a 4 star, but I would be cautious regarding the star ratings in the Greek Islands overall. Not rated to the same standards as in North America. The shared facilities were lovely (pool and reception area - although no air conditioning in the reception area, very warm). Their website, regarding the actual rooms is a bit deceiving. Very small, and very simple. Limited air conditioning in the rooms. The... more
Beautiful Grounds
Spent 3 days and 2 nights at the Hotel Yria in Paros. The hotel is a little oasis that sits just outside of Parikia. The manager greeted us and toured us around the complex. The grounds are amazingly beautiful. You can see that that's where most of the attention is placed. The room interiors could use a little attention. The room was somewhat spartan in design and furnishing. We were disappointed in the room. The pool and bar staff were extremely cordial and assisted us whenever called upon. Overall, we'd give it a B+.
Not bad
Hi To make a long review short, here goes: Stayed here for 3 days (went from Athens to Mykonos to Paros to Santorini) - Clean rooms - Terrible View (can't see the ocean from any of the rooms) - Nice pool although you'll never use it - Beach down the dirt road is too DEAD. Lets face it, we like to people watch and have a bit of atmosphere right? - Restaurant at the beach is very good - Going to need a scooter if your staying here. Dirt Road to get to main road, you'll want to see Naossa (sp) and the... more
Luxury hotel, iffy service
Yria was one of the most luxurious places we stayed in Greece. Fantastic gardens, gorgeous decor, lovely rooms and great patio. Unfortunately the Meltemi winds prevented a test of the pool, as it was quite cool! There were a number of small things that decreased our enjoyment of our stay. The restaurant was expensive enough that we weren't willing to try it without reading stellar reviews and the location was a bit of a hassle. Buses were only hourly and the drive into Parikia, the travel hub of the island, was probably a good 15 minutes. We... more
Paros, better than Mykonos and Santorini
Visited on honeymoon Sept 3-4, 2004 as part of Island Treasure package (first class) with World of Vacations. This Hotel is definitely a 5 star; the grounds are lush in comparison the surrounding dry Paros landscape. Alcohol and food prices here are quite high. The pools is chlorinated, which we prefer to salt water pools. The beach down the dirt road is nice and the small cafe has excellent vine leaves and pizza. The town of Parikia is beautiful with dozens of outdoor seaside cafes/tavernas; it puts Little Venice in Mykonos to shame.... more
Witnessing a Greek Wedding
Although we only stayed at Yria for 3 nights in Sept 2002, this hotel stuck out to me due to the beautiful gardens in which the low-rise bunglaows are situated. Our room was very clean & had a personal patio opening up onto the garden area. On our first evening there, there was a Greek wedding reception taking place at the hotel. That in itself was interesting to witness from our vantage point around the pool. Paros itself was fun-filled for us as we rented a scooter & travelled the countyside each day. Early evenings we would go to Naoussa,... more
