An amazing experience. Just go.
Staying at Il Monastero is a must. We were there for the week June 23rd to 30th 2007 after travelling from Sorrento by hydrofoil. We had one of the superior rooms number 21. Up near the Cathedral roof. The cost for the room was 135 euros per night. If you stay a week Giulio the Manager offers a 5% discount. The rooms are moderately sized but clean and the view of the causeway, the sea and the island from the L shaped balcony was worth the cost of the room itself.. Nothing was too much for the staff , all were friendly and helpful.... more
This hotel is a unique experience!
I and my wife stayed at the Albergo Il Monastero the first week of July 2007. We arrived early in the morning and we were offered a delicious breakfast on the terrace from were we could enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea while waiting to check in. We stayed a week and breakfast was something to look forward to everymorning for the view to enjoy and the delicious homemade cakes. The staff is extremely friendly and genuinely happy to help. Great advise for restaurants and things to do on the island. I want to thank especially Giulio... more
What a fantastic place
We had a fabulous three nights at this hotel. We ate there for two of them and found the food to be very reasonably priced and very good. The rooms are a decent size, not the tiny monastery cells I was expecting. The rooms on the ground floor (hard to describe them as ground when you are halfway up a rocky outcrop) open directly onto the hotel patio area, therefore good if you have children you want to keep an eye on, but not so good if you want privacy. I recommend asking for rooms higher up if you want to be able to leave the window open... more
Breath Taking Amazing
My sister actually got married on the Island and we stayed at in castle. The staff was equisite, we actually became really close with the owner. It was so breath taking and amazing. I still to this day have dreams about the beautiful island. There are so many things to do while you're in Ischia. There is Nagumbo, which are natural thermal spas you can spend the day at, great beaches, amazing shopping, Capri is only a ferry ride away. You have a wonderful view of Mt. Vesusvious. And the view from the castle is speachless. It is... more
Amazing place, extremely courteous staff.
Friends of ours got married on Ischia and had the reception at the castle (and all the guests stayed there for 3-4 nights). I can't say enough about this place and the staff. They only do a few weddings there each year, so they were very attentive to details. Everything is "no problem" with them, with a smile. The rooms are very well kept and charming. The view is spectacular. The food in the cafe is great. From the castle, you can walk to the main shopping area of Ischia as well as a few small beaches. You should plan on taking a... more
UNIQUE !!!! What a cool place to stay.
This is one of the best locations that I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. It is perched on it's own island connected to the mainland by a causeway. The staff are excellent, Flavianna and Gulio, thank you especially to Flavianna for her help with sorting out a hire car etc. The views have to be experienced to be appreciated WOW ! You do feel very priviledged when you stay here, it costs around 10 euro to vist. If you stay at the hotel then of course it is free. There is a lift that takes you most of the way to the hotel and for... more
Utterly Perfect
Slightly worried about writing a review here in case I can never get into this hotel again, but it's just so special! This was our second trip to Il Monastero - we went eight years ago when it was in different hands. This time we upgraded ourselves to Room 8 which had the kind of view that renders people speechless. We had our own balcony and our own bathroom (albeit up a staircase from the communal hallway). Staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms immaculate, but the key thing here is the sense of occasion in staying somewhere... more
Secret gem
Ischia is quite busy during july: A lot of traffic and people everywhere. The hotel Il Monastero has been a very pleasant discover for us because it is exclusive: for the location, right in the castle, for the view, overlooking the Ponte area, for the service, friendly and very gentle, for the sea, the cleanest water is right by the caste entrance. Our five days have stay have been pleasant, relaxed, fun and really out of this world. We'll go back next year.
Phenomenal castle, wonderful staff
This was without question the coolest hotel I have EVER stayed in. I echo all the comments made by the woman who stayed at this hotel in June 2005. The setting is unbelievable, the views are unparalleled, and the hotel staff is warm and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay in the castle and highly recommend it to those who are interested in a very unique hotel. This hotel is not for those who insist on fancy ammenities. There is no AC, TV or individual phone line in the room. But, if you like views it is the kind of place you can just sit... more
Your own castle on top of the world!
We stayed at Albergo Il Monastero as the culmination of a two week jaunt around Italy. We first had trouble finding pleasant, affordable accommodation on Ischia but once we saw Il Monastero's webpage we knew we were onto something good. First off you have to understand that the hotel is a small part of the Castello Aragonese, an ancient hilltop fort that sits on top of a small craggy island in Ischia Ponte harbor, connected by a narrow footbridge. Besides the thermal baths, the Castello is _the_ main attraction on the island and... more
