Hotel Barcellona

Stayed here in August for 9 nights and would not recommend it to anyone (not for the price that we paid). Website claimed that it is a 4 star hotel but definately not. The rooms were very sparse (even by european standards). A fridge that had no socket to plug it into! (I mean, what is the point in putting a fridge in the room if there is no socket to plug it in to?????) The staff could not speak any english which was a big drawback for any english speaking person. I am not a great writer so i,ll be a bit brief. As soon as i walked into the hotel tarragona, with my wife, we were instantly made welcome by the bubbly receptionist & charming owner who can speak english. better than i can write it. the rooms were clean & fresh towels clean every day. having asked if we could change rooms for one with a balcony,they said they would try. next morning we were given one. I cannot give enough praise to all the staff including the cleaners who greeted us every morning with lovely smiles. Alghero is a great place... more

You can't fault the Tarragona for location. Within short walking distance of fantastic beaches, Alghero centre and transport links, it is set back from the main road in a little side street. Attractive enough with clean and simple rooms, one would be forgiven for initially being impressed. However, it became immediately clear from the welcome we received that the staff speak absolutely no English- they were even unable to tell us our room number. Where was breakfast served? When? We were happy with the location of the hotel and with the size of the room. It was clean and simple. There was a fridge which had never been plugged in and no electricity point in the room for it to be plugged in!! We felt that little thought had been put into the room - nowhere to hang towels etc. The staff were friendly, but spoke no or very little English. just returned from blissful 3 night stay in sardinia - what a way to get out of the oh so wet and miserable English summer (although retruned to sunshine - wow!). Booked the Tarragona on the recommendation of a friend who had just returned, full of praise for hotel, staff and resort. Well, I can only add my compliments - the room was certainly bigger and better than ones in so called swanky four and five stars. But, this hotel is just a base for touring. Tarragona is a charming and comfortable hotel, perfectly set to enjoy both the Old Town and the beaches at Alghero. A short walk 50 yards from the hotel door and you choose, left to the Old Town about 500 yards away and right, to the beaches: these again begin about 500 yards from that point; perfect for daytime or evening. The Old Town is full of small bars or 'twee' little restaurants, on the sea walls or hidden away in Town. The description of little Barcelona is absolutely correct. Stayed here for one night on our way to costa smerelda. Thought it was a great hotel for a one night stay. V clean, good size room - there were 2 adults and 2 kids in the room and we had plenty of space. No bath though and breakfast was not good. overall a good basic hotel for a couple of night for seeing alghero

just come back from a 3day stay at the hotel tarragona. The hotel was great. on the minus side-view from our room was nothing to shout about, try to get a room at the front of the hotel.breakfast was basic but good,cereal etc. the hotel itself was imaculate. the staff very freindly. they let us keep the room till 6 oclock because our flight was only at 10,and they did not charge us.Alghero is a lovely place to chill. lovely beach,lovely people and great scenery . overall. hotel tarrogona well worth a .try

We had a great time in Alghero, fantastic weather, lovely beaches, great seafood and some really pleasurable jaunts in the old town. The Hotel Tarragona is in a cracking location, half way between the best beaches and the old town (ten minutes walk either way). The hotel does not have a sea front location, but is only three minutes from the marina edge, so makes a great base. We have just returned to the UK following a delightful stay at the Hotel Tarragona. arrival was via Ryanair flight from Liverpool and we elected to arrive by Taxi from the Airport. The Hotel has been recently refurbished and has tiled floors throughout and the bedroom decor is exclusively Sardinian and spotlessly clean. On arrival greeted by very friendly staff albeit little english spoken.
