Hotel Castell

Lots of steps 107 to pool + 54 to reception + 42 to top floor and my eyrie but what a view! Food was very good; flavours were very delicate but lots of guests seemed to need 3 or 4 spoons of Parmesan over their pasta before trying it! Good variety of salads; leaves shredded/chopped vegetables, beans and some delicious cold sweet and sour peppers - my favourite. Have just returned from a week at Limone in the Hotel Castell. Everything we could have hoped for, the room had a fabulous view right over the town and the lake, with a large balcony. We found the hotel cleaniness second to none- clean towels everyday- immaculately cleaned room and bathroom. Staff very helpful-put on a breakfast for us at 5.00 a.m. on morning of departure. Set high up in the mountain, this hotel is definitely not for anyone with mobility problems.When exploring by foot, it's a short steep climb from the town below but is centrally situated, convenient for ferries, and is well worth the climb for the hotel views of the lake. Having booked this hotel at the last minute we weren't sure what 'leftovers' we'd end up with. On our recent visit to Lake Garda we stayed at the Hotel Castell and we were very disappointed. The room on the bottom floor was very basic, no air conditioning and the view was nothing like the pictures shown on the internet. It overlooked a wall rather than the lake. An excellent view of the scenery is avalable from the dining area balcony though. The meals were not very good and most of the time we had to eat out after paying for half board, very disappointing for italian cuisine. Last summer we stayed at the Hotel Castell in Limone. The hotel is situated just above the town and the view from the hotel over the Lake Garda is fabulous, but the hotel itself didn’t stand our expectations. There is some traffic noise and an exerting climb down to the town and lake. The standard of the rooms are very unequal. If you are unlucky, as we were, you will get a room which will be under average standard for a 3 star hotel; other rooms are sufficient. I have visited the hotel Castell for the last 5 years and this year in august. It has always been a great delight to come back and be greeted like an old friend. The hotel need a good overhaul, but the hotels condition is overshadowed by the very friendly and helpful staff, the good food and most of all; the beatiful wiev one has every morning looking out at the lake from the balcony. The 107 steps down to the town is a problem, but as it is said! No roses without thorns!!

Had a brilliant holiday, Hotel Castell has wonderful views, lovely evening meals and staff that are very friendly and helpful, will be returning. Shame about over 100 steps up and down to the village but all worth it!

The hotel had wonderful views over the lake and a fab swimming pool although I didn't spend as much time in it as I would have liked as we were only there a week. Limone is a lovely base from which to explore the rest of the lake. The hotel, however, was very disappointing. The brochure did say 'basic' hotel but it definitely needs some attention and a few more finishing touches to the rooms. Hotel Castel, in Limone has breathtaking views of the Lake and surrounding mountains, if you can suffer the 107 steps to the hotel from the Centre its really a hotel thats second to none. The food is ok , the starter really great , with a main course that is adequate. Very comfortable , beautiful pool with great views of the lake.

Initially I was disappointed with out hotel. It's what you might call "rustic". Could do with a complete refurbishment. On saying that we were very comfortable, had the most fantastic views over the village below and the lake. Downside was we lost the sun behind the mountains at 5pm. The staff were terrific and very laid back. The food was okay but I must admit I've had much better in Italy. The pasta starters were excellent though and you got a decent cup of tea. All in all, we had a lovely holiday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.... more
