Hotel Bellevue Suites

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Bellevue in June 07. The location of hotel is ok, it is located as you come into Amalfi. It is a 20 minute walk to the centre of Amalfi, not 10 minutes as the hotel staff say. The room was very nice and clean and had a great view of the ocean.Even thou it is a family run business, you still get treated like your staying in someones house. I don't know if I would stay here again due to the location, but I was very happy with the hotel and rooms.There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and walking to the town... more

The Hotel Bellevue is a well-kept, small hotel that is about a 10 minute walk from the main town. The rooms are nice, the bathroom is extremely nice, and the hosts provided excellent service. They provided a very good breakfast including fresh bread and croissants, spreadable cheese and butter, and fresh squeezed orange juice all complementary. Amalfi is a beautiful town and staying at Hotel Bellevue made it an even better experience, if that is possible. Our room was very spacious with a beautiful bathroom and a balcony with a gorgeous view overlooking the Tyrannian Sea! You want clean? This place is spotless! And very nice furnishings too. It is father and son who run this establishment and both were extremely helpful during our stay, recommending excellent restaurants and shuttles into Amalfi (which is only a 15 minute walk anyway). The Hotel Bellevue has the possibility of being a wonderful hotel -- it is beautiful and clean. However, the owner is so uptight and control freakish as to ruin the stay for guests. He's like a very finicky grandmother who keeps her house in perfect order and gets upset if something is moved. Some examples: berating morning breakfasters because they asked for more coffe ("what?! are you going to sit here all day and drink coffee); coming over and asking patrons to face their chairs toward the table instead of toward the table next to... more

We asked for two bedrooms and got a huge suite with a living room and two bedrooms, each room having a door to a huge terrace with a gorgeous view. We were worried about the hotel not being directly in Amalfi, but the walk is short (less than 1km) and pleasant, and you get to see Amalfi from above, which those living in Amalfi don' get! We booked 3 months in advance and had an e-mail confirmation but on arrival there was no booking and no room.The owner offered us a room in a near by hotel which was poor and unacceptable,and did not make a real effort to find another room in a similar class hotel. He was very unpolite and left us to look for a room by ourselvs. Today we "thank" him because we found a room in Aurrora hotel which was great by all means-location, service, price etc.

I stayed in this hotel for four days in the low season during our honeymoon. We had not prebooked and we needed a hotel with parking. The owner was happy to show us the room before booking and then let us haggle the price down to €80 a night for a seafront room. The father and son were extremely friendly and helpful. The flat was large considering its a hotel and the breakfast was generous. I am definately going to stay here again but I will heed the advice of other reviewers

The hotel offers the potential of a brilliant holiday, but unfortunately the owner makes you feel under surveillance and quite unwelcome. In addition there are "rules" for everything. Even rules not allowing you to bring food etc from the outside, although the rooms are offering a mini kitchen with both a fridge and a freezer. IF you "by accident" do use these facilities, you will be charged 50 euros a day. The owner seem to be concerned about keeping up the hotels appearances, bus this is far too much of a good thing.

The hotel was nice and clean but we were not greeted in a nice way. The owner was upset with us upon arrival and said he did not allow children. The hotel did not say anything about not allowing children and his son who took our reservation knew we had children. Right away we did not have a good feeling and actually tried to find another hotel with no luck. Our stay was nice but we would advise families to doublecheck their policy on allowing children.
