Hot and loud!
I have just returned from a short break at this hotel - for once I was glad it was a short holiday! I've stayed in a lot of hotels and hostels, and for the price and clientele I was suprised at just how bad this place managed to be! The rooms were horribly hot - I don't expect or need air conditioning, but the small desk fan provided for these sweatboxes wasn't adequate. Because of the location (which was good) there was a lot of noise at night, and moreso early in the morning when the tank type street cleaners would pound just... more
Dreadful Hotel
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We were put into an attic room and they wouldn't change it, saying we "paid for a cheap room". Not true - we paid full brochure price. Dining was a nightmare - two sittings 6.30 and 8.30, and pity help you if you forget to book, you won't be eating at all! Sparrows fly around freely in the dining room, so it's no hardship to eat out. The staff were horrible, and the rooms were like sweatboxes.
Dreadful
Small bedrooms. Sullen staff. Not very clean. Restaurant servivce very poor. Food awful. Nice spot pity about the rest. Eat out all week
Visiting Garda
Whilst visiting Lake Garda for the first time, I was blown away with how beautiful the place is and how central it is for seeing some beautiful and historical parts of Italy. We stayed in the Hotel Astoria with our two children (aged 4 and 8) and my parents and the staff couldn't have been any more friendly or helpful to all of us. A special thanks to Carmen who is one of life's gems, what a beautiful lady! The Hotel Astoria is immaculately clean, the rooms basic but very comfortable and cleaned every day with bedding and towels being... more
Pizza and frogs!
Great little hotel in good location - couldnt get much closer to the Lake. As per other reviews, hotel in food is pretty basic however we opted to eat in the attached pizza restaurant (complete with frogs!). Good pizza and/or pasta option (a small bucket full) only down side was we could only eat from 9.30pm - however, when in Italy etc..... Staff were really friendly, couldnt fault them. Rooms are fine and the hotel generally is very clean. I would recommend Garda and this hotel as a good base to visit the area - the local bus... more
lookin for a holiday
we arrived late(not the hotels fault)and for dinner we got( for four adults)four rolls/four pieces of ham/4pieces of cheese.not happy.we were not made to feel welcome in the bar area, the reason i say this, being that every time we made a request at the bar, mrs frosty(as we called the lady owner)actually looked at her watch and looked down her nose at us.the food was in order 1 cold,2 miniscule,3 ordered the day before.lake garda is a beautiful part of the world, the people are lovely, but this hotel MUST be given the rejection it so fully... more
location unbelievable
the location of this hotel is most definetely fantastic. The staff were helpful beyond belief and the frogs were great! (ornaments not real ones!) we went to garda with two pensioners and our two small children as well. The italians were so nice to the children it was a pleasure and this hotel had the nicest staff of the entire resort. Down side was the lack of air conditioniong in the rooms but there were fans and we didn't hear the building works going on next door. The food wasn't excellent but it was good and my children ate well (and... more
excellent location
The best thing about the hotel was the location. It was right on the lake front and there was easy access to all the shops and eating places. It was a good place for catching the boats to various locations. We hired bikes and cycled to various places along safe paths along the lake. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and spoke English. The package company organised day trips which were good value. The food was good value and lots of it but you would probably struggle for choice if a vegetarian. We... more
Astoria OK but!
Myself along with 3 lady friends (in our 50 - 60's) stayed at the Astoria in June 2005. We booked our holiday late as a previous company we had booked a holiday with to Lake Garda cancelled our trip at the last minute, there was very little accommodation left available and we were offered the Astoria. We went with some trepidation to the Astoria as I had read a quite damning report by a previous visitor, also our holiday company had informed us that there was building work being carried out on the villa next door with scaffolding & a crane... more
Great Location
The location was the best thing about this hotel, almost on the shore front of lake Garda - although none of the rooms had views. The room itself was small, and the bathroom smaller, but it is a small hotel. Garda itself is beautiful - and a central point for boats exploring the lake. It was almost impossible to get to Venice under your own steam ... (in May) and the tourist information centre was not particularly helpful. Food (we were half board) was not great. Tending to be a bit cold, and as we were on the 21:00... more
