Great value and gorgeous
from A TripAdvisor Member
My daughter and I have just returned from an amazing five days in Venice, which included one night at the gorgeous Corte Contarina. We wanted our last night in Venice to be different and cheaper than the five star accomodation we were lucky enough to have paid for us. After much research we chose Corte Contarina and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived on the door-step we fell in love with it. The quaintness and beauty of this unique hotel was fantastic. Our room/s were spacious and beautifully furnished [we had a double...

Best place we stayed in Italy
from LynnTed1
We were married in Rome and continued our honeymoon in Florence and Venice. Corte Contarina was our favorite Hotel in Italy. It was a small locally owned hotel. The staff was exceptional. They attended to every detail. We slept late and missed breakfast the first morning. They were so nice. They saved breakfast for us and brought it to our room. Now, that is great service! The hotel was very clean and beautifully decorated. Our room was furnished with lovely antiques and well appointed fabrics. It was conveniently located to Grand...

Loved it!
from yes2travel
This is a small family run hotel. Clean and neat. It's very European in that the rooms and bathrooms are small. The location is right in the residential area of Venice. You are right by a beautiful park! In fact if continue through the park and past the ACTV stop you will come to a lovely promenade which goes through the residental area along the water. There are also good restaurants at local prices right around the corner. It's very easy to pop into the nearby cheese and wine shop. It is a wonderful respite from the tourist throng at...

Very friendly service but lacking in other things
from catwomyn
We stayed at the Corte Contarina for 2 nights, mainly because of the reasonable price (hotels in Venice are EXPENSIVE). While Mauro, the manager, and all the staff were extremely kind and professional, and the breakfast was very, very good, the air conditioning in our room was anemic at best and the bathroom was extremely cramped. My boyfriend referred to the shower as "the coffin" -- he is over 6 feet tall and could not bend over inside it. Also, it was extremely difficult to adjust the water temperature (I think we stayed in the same...

Wonderful hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Wonderful hotel with the Venetian style decor. It was formerly the residence of a Doge of Venice so it was kind of a fantasy staying there. Great friendly professional staff. Terrific breakfast offered. Small, elegant and cosy only three floors I believe max so you feel that you are staying more at someone's house in Venice. My room was an okay size very clean. Very clean bathroom with a good running shower. Plus they accept animals. Nice crowd of people staying there international. Good value for Venice I thought as you can walk by...

hell hole.
from A TripAdvisor Member
THANK god we were just there for 2 nights. it was the worst experience of my LIFEEEE...this hotel is a hole in the wall. after a flight of about 10 hours, we faced a climb up 3 flights..lugging suit cases up, it was horrible then the room was the size of a box, ok then the bed, dont get me started on it.. it wasn't fit for an animal, but no wonder why. it WASNT a matress..it was a box-spring..the thing you put under a bed.. which is literally a BOX of springs. the location was 15 minutes away from the plaza san marco by foot, and to get to...

Reasonable accomodation - great location.
from A TripAdvisor Member
I was switched from the Corte Contarina itself to a nearby self-contained loft, owned by the hotel. It had everything you could need, including a separate bedroom and living room. The Arsenale area is absolutely perfect, just a five minute boat ride or ten minute walk away from the throngs at St Mark's Square. There were plenty of nice places to have breakfast, a local supermarket and fruit sellers on the street and it was nice to get away from the madness of the main tourist sites. Minor complaints: the bathroom was small and...

Just an okay hotel
from swashbuckler
I booked the hotel because of the positive reviews here but I was somewhat disappointed. The location was okay, the hotel staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a nice cozy breakfast area. But we had quite a few other problems. First of all, our room was on the top floor (4th?), carrying our luggage up the stairs in summer with minimal air-conditioning proved to be quite an experience. A weak air-conditioner inside the room certainly didn't help the matter either. Secondly, the bathroom was really really cramped. And Finally, the...

Just a few stairs
from Rosie12
Stayed at this hotel 13 - 17 April 05. Found it easily from instructions given on this site. Thanks! We probably had the smallest room in the hotel which was on the top floor. Yes there were a few stairs, but if you are in good health and fairly fit it was not a problem Although the room was compact, the decoration of the room more than made up for this. Vaulted beamed ceiling, polished plastered walls, granite top chest of drawers, full length mirror, very nice fittings in the bathroom, an excellent shower. We were more than happy...

Good location
from Iceman_1965
A nice friendly hotel in an excellent location, just 10 minute walk from San Marco and 5 minute walk from the Arsenale waterbus stop. It's certainly worth noting the directions in other reviews as otherwise it would be quite difficult to find. We were in the ground floor room which appears to be the room used for disabled visitors. This unfortunately is the reason for us only giving a 'neutral' rating. Being immediately next to the reception desk (manned 24 hrs) it can be quite noisy with the telephone going, front door buzzer, TV...
