Hotel Paraiso del Mar

Do not stay in this hotel. It's run down and dirty. The beds are old and uncomfortable. Everything needs updating. The pool needed cleaning. It offers very poor value for money, the worst I've encountered in Spain. It has regular guests who come back every year, and they appear to post on this site saying how nice it is. We fell for these reviews, I hope you don't make the same mistake. A lovely panacea to all the drossy jerry-built hotels around this part of Spain. The moment you walk into the cool, colonial style reception, you know you've stumbled into somewhere to remember. The rooms are all a bit luck-of-the-draw. Some spacious, some not so. Some with views, others without. Some with seriously quirky historical features (bookcases, grand pianos) still in the rooms. This hotel is adjacent to the well known Parador in Nerja. There is no elevator down to the beach but there are stairs. Hotel is not large - perhaps 30 rooms. The rooms are spectacularly large. Ours faced the Med with a large porch. Bathrooms are welll equipped. Breakfast was lovely. It's about a 15 minute walk into town. You can park on the street or in a lot a short walk away. We stayed in a spacious family suite with our 2 daughters (11 and 6) for 3 nights in July 2006. We, too, found the hotel in the Sawday guide. It is a clean, well-run hotel with a friendly, professional staff in a fabulous location on a cliff above the beach (142 steps, according to our girls). The grounds have a small pool, a lovely garden, and a number of terraces for sunning and relaxing in relative privacy. The arrangement was ideal for our family and the rooms were spotless. A charming hotel in a beautiful location. This was once a villa that was converted to a hotel. Our suite was three rooms with built in bookcases throughout opening on to a terrace overlooking the ocean. There are private stairs down to the beach with many terraces to sunbathe on. The pool is quite small. The breakfast was heavenly sitting out on the terrace. The hotel is very quiet as it is outside of town.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in October 2005 at the start of a touring holiday of Andalucia. We first saw the hotel in the book “Special Places to Stay – Spain” by Alistair Sawday and then were encouraged by the reviews on this site. An oasis in Nerja. Close to the beach. Close to shopping. Close to restaurants. But far enough away from all of the above too. Vistas are stunning, perched on the bluff. People staying at the Parador next door were longingly looking at our grounds. Enrique (owner?/manager) welcomed us & told us it was our home for the stay. He was right. The staff all speak English. We have just returned from a short break in Andalusia. We spent 2 nights at the Hotel Paraiso del Mar and found it a fantastic place to stay. We had Room 106, which we were told when we booked was the hotel's best room. We had a large room with king size bed and comfortable seating area, and ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi. There were patios doors from the bedroom onto a private terrace overlooking the sea with spectacular views out to sea and down to the beach, so you could see the Med from the bed! We stayed here in September 2004. A delightful cliff-top hotel set up high over-looking the beach at Nerja. Our room (Room 202) had a pair of French windows and small private balcony giving beautiful views out to sea, plus view of the bay and beach. Looking straight down from our balcony we had a views of the terraces, gardens and hotel pool. Paraiso del Mar is a small, comfortable and homely place to stay. My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in Nerja. We stayed at the Paraiso Del Mar and were extremely delighted with it. This is a small hotel (12-16 rooms)with immaculate grounds that overlook the beautiful mediterranean sea. The owners are on site everyday, and the staff is very courteous. We did have a chance to look around at other accomodations in the area but feel that this hotel provides a much superior accomodation for the price. Without hesitation we would stay here again.
