Light Sleepers Need Not Apply
Spent time here in November of 2004. The hotel is pretty and the staff is very, very nice. However, the renovations are on-going and the workmen start very, very early. If you want to sleep late, the St. Jacques is probably not a good fit for you. The price is very low and the rooms are charming, although our bed was not very comfortable. The street is busy and several drunks decided to serenade the hotel in the small hours of the morning. Their singing was not appreciated by us and other guests, but it continued for quite some time.... more
Great experience
My sister and I stayed here from Oct. 16-23, 2004 and yes, there was construction going on in a restaurant on the ground floor, but the hotel should not be held accountable for something that is beyond their control. Our room (#9) was on the 2nd floor right above the construction. It only took a 2 minute conversation with Bridget at the front desk, and she had us moved into a 4th floor room within 10 minutes, which was roomier, quieter and very pleasant. There were large balcony windows in both rooms, and when closed, no street noise at... more
Great hotel, great location, great experience!
We just returned from a 4 night stay and were very pleased with this hotel! We were in room 8 and it had a balcony with views of the Pantheon and Notre Dame. The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless and modern. (though on the small side). They are renovating a restaurant on the ground floor, so we did hear some hammering, but it didn't start until around 8 a.m. and we were leaving the room for the day anyway. The location of this hotel is awesome-making it easy to pop into your room during your day of sightseeing. Very charming... more
Delightful Budget Hotel
Just returned from a long planned "budget" trip to Paris and stayed at Hotel St. Jacques from 11/4 - 11/9. Our room, #12, was delightful; a single bed and a double bed, armoire, desk and chair, with double doors opening to small balcony. The bath was clean and modern, small shower which may be a problem for a large person. The plus was that there was a hall bathroom right across from the room which came in handy. Yes, the hotel is on a busy street, however when you close the windows there is very little noise (probably would hesitate to... more
Beware of smell!
We stayed here two nights from Oct.27-29. It was terrible, not just because of the noise. I wasn't told about the renovation...so every morning around 6:30 we would wake up to the sounds of hammers and electrical equipment. Our room smelled like body odor. It was disgusting! We had to spray the room with airfreshener and leave the windows open. Room #2. It had dingy towels, and I found bugs in the bathroom. We paid 103 Euro a night, but I much rather pay more and stay elsewhere.
Excellent experience!
The renovated rooms were quite attractive, the staff friendly, and the location was more than acceptable (near Sorbonne in Latin Quarter). It is a walk to the Metro, but for Euro 119,00 per night for a superior room, I feel it was a bargain, considering the outrageous prices for some hotels in Paris! We were on fifth floor for three nights.
disappointed
Beware! Hotel under renovation. Unfortunately our room was right next to the jackhammers. We were able to find an equally charming hotel, (Hotel Brighton, Rue de Rivoli) for $5 euros more. The room at St Jacques was quaint and comfortable, but overpriced. You could also hear the people in their rooms above and below you.
Great Location!
I stayed at the Hotel St. Jacques for 5 nights Oct 11-16 and had a very nice stay. The hotel is in the perfect location, within walking distance of Notre Dame, St. Chapelle, cafes, shops, and one block from the Metro. The rooms are modest but clean. Nothing fancy here. Hey, you're in Paris, you're not going to spend that much time in the room. My room, #11, was a double and was a decent size (small by American standards though) and had a clean, modern bathroom that was also a decent size. The hotel staff spoke English very well and all... more
Hotel St. Jacques central to All
Travelled to Paris Oct. 22-28th, 2004 staying in the Latin Quarter at the Hotel St. Jacques. Very friendly, nice room, conveniently situated to Metro and many historic sights. Highly recommend Hotel as well as purchasing Metro Pass BEFORE visiting. This was well worth the money as well as the Museum pass. Versailles, Giverny and Sacre Coeur are must see along with well known visitor sites.
A Wonderful Introduction to Paris
Stayed in room #14 on Sept 29 and 30, and then in room #25 Oct 1 - 3. Charmingly appointed, friendly staff who chatted in French with us despite our high school ability, and a great location. Our only issue was with the street noise level - roving bands of students (I'm guessing) partying on as they made their way elsewhere. Bring your ear plugs!
