Dec 2006, Miss T Doyle

When we arrived at this hotel my first impressions were it seemed disorganised, but this was purely due to 4 coaches arriving at the same time. We were soon checking in and in our lovely room. The room was plenty adequate for 2 adults and some other couples we spoke to had been given a family room with full seating area. I would have liked a kettle in the room for that early morning cuppa, but there was no problem if one of you wanted to pop to the restaurant and bring one up.
The staff were exceptional, particularly Elena in the restaurant, Eric on animation crew and Marios in reception. The food was buffet style and like most AI restaurants offered a selection of dishes and Chef's carvery every evening. My only recommendation would be to get down early for dinner as everyone seemed to leave it till 8pm and you could find yourself queuing. The deserts were excellent and a vast selection, plus cheese and biscuits and plenty of fresh fruit.
The only problem I had was that there was no omlettes for breakfast and this is something I like when I am on holiday. The house wine that was complementary could have been a lot less acidic but the option was always there to buy a decent bottle of wine for about £6. The pool area was excellent and peaceful as there were very few children around but I would not go there in high season unless you had children to be entertained. The Animation team were excellent putting on lots of games and competitions but very lighthearted (there was a lot of pensioners when we were there) and they taught us to play shuffle board, I must say they can get quite competitive!
The beach was okay but there are plenty of lovely ones to visit by bus (frequent service). Probably what made it for us was once the sun went down you could retire to the indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, again I wouldn't like to be there in the height of the winter season as it could get quite packed. All in all I would recommend the Louis Phaethon for a Winter break, but would not go as a couple in summer. We are thinking of returning in March!

Just back from Cyprus where my wife...

Nov 2006, Graham McCall

Just back from Cyprus where my wife and I stayed at the Phaethon beach hotel on an all inclusive deal. After reading some of the reviews about the hotel rooms being a bit tired and in need of an up grade well they are doing that right now, the room we stayed in was just fine new furniture new carpets and freshly decorated.
Although a bit small for more than two people. And for a four star hotel tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be a good idea.
The hotel staff are very friendly and the service in the hotel was first class the selection of snacks and food were very good, the only draw back is going on the first week of the winter season is that the pool bar is closed and you have to go in to the hotel for any refreshments.
As the hotel was not full at this time of year the local ware company employees and their families had a weekend break and party in the hotel and you did feel a bit over run and this is quite common at winter.
Entertainment in the hotel was very good the animation team worked very hard through the day and also at night, they organised riffle shooting, darts, archery, shuffle board, aqua aerobics, and French boules and a children's club. At night they have a children's disco and put on live stage shows five nights a week.
Facilities in the hotel include an indoor swimming pool, gym sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi which is a must in the winter as after about three o'clock it starts to get a bit cooler. In all a good holiday and would go back to this hotel again.

It was our first time to Cyprus and...

Nov 2006, lucky

It was our first time to Cyprus and went for 2 weeks, were didn’t do much site seeing but will definitely go back next year.
We arrived at our Hotel and were quite impressed as it’s given a four star and reading some reviews some people said it was not worth it.
The Hotel is cleaned and you always see cleaners all day and into the evening, the only down fall was that some of the carpets being dirty and smelling of cat pee. I did see some parts of the Hotel being fitted with new carpets then others were being cleaned to aid the smell in some areas.
We noticed some what like flea bites on our ankles and went straight to reception and ask for new mattress and flea spray to sprayed into our two rooms that we had. This was done straight away and after that we never had any problems.
The reception staff were very friendly, and so were the bar staff they were quick to take your order and very friendly also.
The pool area is very clean and never noticed people slipping that as been mentioned on here before.
The entertainment staff work day and night and the kids had a whale of time.
The snack bar food is out of this world, is always hot and pancakes everyday at 4 there is a wide choice to chose from.
The meals in the restaurant were very tasty too there was so much choice everyday. Its the best Hotel were have been to for food, entertainment.
They had kayaks and pedalos to use free of charge but had to pay for jet skis and paragliding.
I had a lovely wedding out there to at st Paul’s piller and then off to vardas restaurant.
There was a party of 13 that stayed with us and I would go back.
We went to Rhodes on our honeymoon and although we liked the place we just couldn’t wait to get back.
Would we stay at this Hotel again OH YES!

Having just come back from a week in...

Sep 2006, Mrs KR Scott

Having just come back from a week in this hotel I would like to say what a wonderful holiday we had in the Louis Phaethon Beach Hotel.
The food was absolutely fantastic, the entertainment brilliant, all the staff were extremely kind and helpful.
We got married in Cyprus on the holiday and could not have wished for a better day, we were advised by First choice that we could not get married nor have our reception in the hotel at the time of booking so we employed the services of a wedding co-ordinator who was absolutely fantastic also. Although we did not have our reception at the hotel they could not have made us feel more welcome on our return after the reception, they provided us with complimentary breakfast in bed the next morning and then followed it up with a magnificent candle lit meal for the two of us again compliments of the hotel including silver service waiter.
We would like to advise anyone thinking of getting married in Cyprus that this hotel offers wonderful reception faculties. Of which I would recommend to anyone.
The children’s facilities were fantastic.
In all I could not fault this hotel at all, the only things I would say are that I do not think it is suitable for older people looking for a quiet holiday!! But would recommend to anyone who likes to have fun!!
For wedding details I would advise that you contact the hotel direct and speak to a lovely gentleman called Jason who would help you with any queries you have.

Sep 2006, Mrs M Mcquarrie

I have to say I foolishly looked at this review site a couple of days before we set off to Cyprus and did freak out a little. WE HAD A FABULOUS TIME!
Yes the rooms are too small, we had a 3 year old and a 14 month old so space wasn't at a premium but we weren't there to spend 2 weeks in the room. Food is superb, super choice, different menus every night, kids area too which was nice. The snack bar at the pool was just the same too.
We love Alex from the animation team, she ran the crèche which is a lovely addition to any hotels we have stayed at in the past, nice to get a break and know your children are really well looked after not just popped in a corner and Cadie in the Goody goody club too, this really is a family orientated hotel so mum and dad really do get a little break if they want.
My other half loves all the sports activities and the animation team really do try and cater for all, he had a great time and hats off to Bobo and Muhamed, they work really hard to give you a great holiday.
I think other reviews are a real shame when it mentions the cleaners as you can tell they work really hard, our room was immaculate, fresh towels every day and if I did have a query a quick call to reception and it was dealt with extremely promptly. ALL the staff are really friendly and do go out of their way for you.

Mrs Llewellyn review is spot on, food excellent, room small but very clean and ok.
As long as you walk on the wet tiles you will be ok, they were laying new carpets on the ground floor when we left.
My wife and 4 year old son were definitely not ready to leave after a week, we had an excellent time and would go back again.

Sep 2006, Mr R Fice

This hotel was absolutely lovely. We went as a group of four adults (two couples). First of all, the hotel is well presented, clean and tidy. The rooms are what you would expect from a Greek hotel and were also clean and tidy. The air conditioning worked well. Those who complain of one English speaking channel, get out more, you are on holiday.
The food was good as well. You have a choice to cater for almost everyone. There is also a pool bar with self service food and drinks (inc. alcohol if you wish) during the day if you prefer to stay outside. If you felt like it, it was possible to eat from 7am through to about 9pm.
Evenings were also good. Table service for the all inclusive drinks when upstairs. The club downstairs tries to cater for all age groups. Not bad in the least, but you cannot please everybody every night.
The location is okay. Not in Paphos as such, but close enough. It is only 5 minutes in a bus (which is cheap and regular). The water park is just as close too. I only had one complaint about the hotel, the beach was hardly a beach. But the pool and garden area were spacious and made up for it, just. But the best thing about the hotel were the hotel staff. Nothing was too much trouble. They are the friendliest I have come across whilst abroad.
One last note to reviewers. Please use the full 10 point spectrum. Leaving a rating of 1/10 is neither accurate or fair to future holiday makers or the hotel. This place really is a great hotel. Highly recommended by all four of us and the people me met whilst there.

I am writing this with the hope that...
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr GSL Llewellyn

I am writing this with the hope that this review will be the most balanced and sensible review on this hotel.
Firstly I would like to confirm the point that the tiles around the pool are ridiculously slippery when wet, but as long as you are able-bodied and walk in a sensible manner, you should be o.k.
Secondly I would like to say, with reference to other reviews, that the food is fantastic, and the only way it could possibly taste bad was if you had recently swallowed some mercury. The meat was particularly good and it was consistently tender and tasty. However if you are a veggie you'd better like omelette :)
Many reviews seem to comment on the pool being overcrowded, true, but if you would like to go for a peaceful swim, you are permitted the LEAVE the hotel and enjoy some of the gorgeous beaches in latchi (choose the remote ones the locals use).
I also found that taking into account the amount of people using the pool. The filters coped far better than their British equivalents.
I have to admit that the rooms are suitable for 2 only or maybe an extra small child. and have thus given it 8. As for the staff, some do appear monotonous and grumpy, but all are polite and treat you well.
It appears that some people mistook the 4 star rating for 7, well sorry you'll have to go to Dubai for that, I would say this hotel is a 3.8 star as the location isn’t the best.

I booked this holiday for 2 adults &...
1 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr M Skingle

I booked this holiday for 2 adults & 2 Children 15yr/9yr olds
My initial impression of the Hotel Reception was that the area seemed very dated, & once our room was allocated the corridor to our room confirmed my suspicions. All the carpets were very stained & smelly(This included the room itself). The room size was very cramped. Maid Service to the room was inconsistent, some days towels were replaced albeit not the right amount.
There were several times when balcony doors were left open by the cleaners. Once I attempted to find a maid to replace some towels & discovered what could be described as a small cleaning cupboard next to the lift, where there appeared to be 3-4 bunk beds where cleaners lived!
The pool area was also a concern, in respects of Health & Safety. I witnessed countless incidents where people slipped & tripped on the wet tiles around the pool. The pool itself seemed disproportionate in respect of shallow v deep. The majority of pool games took place in the deep end (3.5m) with the exception of water polo which was in the shallow end, leaving the remaining shallow area too crowded.
During my holiday, I also witnessed 2 notable accidents in the pool. 1) a boy gashed his leg on a protruding screw from a pool light 2) a man cut his foot on broken tiles in the pool. On both occasions there was no pool closure to clear the blood! However, the pool did close twice when human waste (polite description) was found floating in the pool. I did not feel confident in using the pool as cleaning did not seem to take place on a regular basis.
Dining Area appeared to be OK if you arrived as early as possible. There were notices to explain busy/non-busy times, but if you chose to dine at the busiest time there was no extra staff to accommodate, subsequently food often ran out. Management in the Dining Area appeared to very efficient at ordering their team to clear & re-fill, but when the heat was on they let standards slip & failed to muck in themselves.
I would recommend the Dining Hall at lunchtime as an alternative to the constant burger, nuggets & chips brigade in the Pool Side Bar. Gents had to wear long trousers for evening meals, which included all variations of tracksuit bottoms, no smart crop trousers or shorts allowed!
Daytime sport activities were varied, but there was too many going on, which meant if you wished to join in more than 1 thing, you couldn’t as time did not allow this! The lunchtime entertainment included the daily monotonous pool-side dance routines again at the deep-end where poor swimmers/children could be pushed into the pool.
Evening entertainment was in the downstairs "Chariots Nightclub" First there was the mini disco (OK) & then Bingo every night followed by (at best) amateurish show. (Please show me the way to Butlins!). The only alternative was to go to the reception bar where service was fast to take orders but slow to receive them!
My daughter did enjoy the daily Kids Club, but after having a conversation with a children’s entertainer it was clear she was over-worked & was unhappy with the hotel conditions herself!
The hotel was also being used to accommodate Lebanese refugees in our 2nd week. I appreciate their situation but there was no explanation from any Hotel Mgt.
I am deeply dissatisfied with the Standards & Service of this Hotel, maybe I was expecting too much from the only holiday that I have saved for all year!

Aug 2006, Mr R Morton

For the past 12 years my wife and I have been going to Cyprus for our annual holidays, this July we decided to take our grandchildren and booked to go to the Phaethon Beach Hotel.
This was the worst mistake that we could have made what a disappointment this so called 4 Ts hotel was I am being kind in giving it a rating of 2 Ts. Going into the hotel quite impressive at first glance, reception people unfriendly do they know what the word smile means, we then took the lift to our hotel room after a marathon walk down the shabby carpeted corridor we entered the hotel room greeted by a strong smell of urine, broken toilet seat , air conditioning that you could only benefit from by standing on the bed.
The pool area was dangerous and adults and children alike were slipping over, quite a few children suffered ear infections after using the pool over a period of days, sun beds (if you were lucky enough to get one most people left there towels on them overnight) had seen better days, I have seen better ones on a car boot. Entertainment was an absolute joke they catered for adult ages but unless you were in the children’s club there was nothing for the younger ones to do, at night time the chariots club was like a working mans club no air conditioning (saved going into the sauna).
The entertainment group could not understand half of what they were saying due to language barriers. Men were expected to wear long trousers at night but youths 19 - 20 yrs wore 3/4 trousers so what is the age limit are you a man at 18 or 20.
I really think Thomson need to look into some of the issues highlighted here I would definitely not go back to this hotel and I have in the past had some fabulous holidays and accommodation in Cyprus and will be going back next year to a better hotel. DISAPPOINTED

I visited the hotel at the end of...
10 / 10
Jul 2006, A F Flitcroft

I visited the hotel at the end of June and early July with my wife and two children, a girl of 5 and a boy of 14.I found the hotel excellent and very clean. The food was spot on with plenty, and as a tip I would say go inside the main hall at lunch as the food is far better than the snack bar by the pool. The rooms are, as many others say, on the smaller side but I went on the holiday to be outside and really its just somewhere to wash and sleep. The maid cleaned it every day and towels were changed frequently.
The pool is excellent and spent most days around there, but had to get down early to reserve the sun beds by the pool side, but there are plenty more by the beach and under the trees. The entertainment was good, but one little complaint. My son at 14 was too young for the archery and rifle shooting but too old for the kids clubs. He found some mates though so it solved the problem.
Pathos is about £5 in a taxi but make sure the taxi drivers put their meter on or they will give you a set price. The only trip we went on was to the water park opposite the hotel which was quite expensive but good fun. Also try the jet skis on the beach, they are fantastic fun. I would certainly go to this hotel again and recommend it to any one with children.

Jul 2006, Miss K Redmond

I stayed in the Louis Phaethon with my boyfriend and my 8 year old daughter and it was brilliant!
Although the rooms were a little on the small side they had everything we needed and the air conditioning was a godsend!
The food was excellent and with a wide selection to choose from, there was something for everyone.
The animation team were by far the best that we have seen and there were plenty of activities for all the family throughout the day- from rifle shooting to French bowls!
Without exception, the staff were friendly and delivered an excellent service.
Everyone that we spoke to during our stay were impressed and many of them had either stayed in the hotel before or were already planning their next visit!
I would highly recommend this hotel and we hope to go back very soon.
