I have just returned from a week...

Jul 2008, Mrs S Banks

I have just returned from a week staying at this hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy. The hotel food and facilities make up for this. The Animation team have activities running from 10am - 1pm and then 3pm-5pm plenty of things going on everyday if you want to get involved. The evening entertainment is a mix of local acts (Parrot Show, Singers and Dancers) and the Animation Team's Showtime. All very professional. The gym is adequate, full of weights machine and some cv equipment.
One of the best holidays I have had and there have been many. I will be returning to the Louis Phaethon Hotel.

I have just returned from the Louis...

Jul 2008, Miss J SAVAGE

I have just returned from the Louis Phaethon beach, with my friend, sister and my 15month old nephew.
Overall none of us could fault this property,i have been a travel agent for 10years and i would have to admit it was one of the best All Inclusives that i have stayed in within europe
Food ~ The food was very good, a good choice of meals to suit every pallat, they had a seperate childrens buffet which had all the kids favourites, usually a roast meat every night for dinner, and in the main summer months they have a chinese restaurant that is also included, with freshly cooked dishes. My sister used to be a chef and believe me she is the most fussiest eater, she has never eaten meat abroad, but i have never seen her eat so many roast dinners and not complain once,so it must of been good!
Hotel ~ Cleanliness of the hotel was superb, we had to once ask for some extra fresh towels, but they were taken to our room immediatley, we had a problem with ants on the second day, but this was not the hotel fault,my nephew decided to leave a sticky sweet under the dressing table!!
Drinks~ There was a good variety of drinks, in the day you could help yourself to beer, juice, water there was also a beach bar if you wanted a different drink, in the evening it was waiter service, which again was great because you didnt have to que at the bar for ages!drinks were stopped at 00.00 but the waiters had no problems in bringing you plenty before they went.
Location~ The Louis Phaethon is the first hotel from the airport, yes you do have some aircraft noise and they do come quite low, but this was never an issue to us or any of the other people that we met, it was quite a walk from the harbour, but the bus stop was right outside and that would take you anywhere in Paphos for 1.35Euro.Taxis are also readily available and to get to bar street it would cost you no more than 8euro, which i didnt find too bad.The waterpark is a 5min walk away, and if you wanted a supermarket you could walk to one quite easily.
The Beach was a bit of a let down, it was quite rocky and lots of seaweed washed up,however they were tackling this issue on our last bu one day.
Entertainment~ To be honest we never really went to see the entertainment but there was a show on every night, and a disco for kids and adults, although never really many people in there.
There is a kids club, creche and babysitting is available, both Thomsons run and the hotel run club.
The staff at the hotel were all helpful and were there when you needed them,
Overall i would definatley reccommend this property to families, couples, groups and singles, i will definatley 100% be returning to this property!

Jun 2008, Mrs Y Allen

i have just had one of the best holidays at the pheathon.we were there for our daughters wedding and we had an absolutely fabulous day.all the details were spot on and it was quite a large party with 60 guests.
i would recommend the phaethon to anyone getting married it was very relaxed.
the hotel is a little bit out of the way but the staff, especially the entertainment staff work so well you wont want to go anywhere.theres something to do most of the time.
the food was lovely the rooms were clean and we felt this hotel has a very personal feel.
i miss having such a good time, especially dancing til 1 am every nite. check out the break dancers !!!!!!!
if your young or young at heart go and stay at the phaethon you wont want to come home.
oh,cyprus is a lovely country, weve been twice now and plan to go again.

Jun 2008, Mr M Edwards

First all inclusive holiday we'd taken as a family. Slightly nervous about it beforehand but no need to have been. Food and drinks very varied if not slightly repetetive in the second week. Attentive friendly staff and good all round activities and entertainment from tireless animation team. The hotel public areas are very clean, airy and well maintained. However, the bedroom was is desparate need of a makeover, especially the bathroom. Could do with a new bath, shower curtain and lick of paint. Also, an investment in some new towels would also be a bonus. Ours were always too small and threadbare but managed to do the job ... just. No problem in getting a sunbed and umbrella by the pool if you were prepared to be out there by 08:30. Do not leave your balcony doors open unless you want a mozzie infestation and invest in some industrial strength repellant for the evenings. However, the air conditioning in the room was one of the best I have experienced in hotels and we had no need to have the door open other than to put towels out to dry.

Jun 2008, Mrs J McClune

We arrived at 1.20 am and were slightly disappointed by the reception at the hotel but put it aside as we were very tired. Went to our room which as fine. It was a little small but we had been warned about this, so not a problem.
Got up the next morning - no sea view but not an unpleasant view so not too bothered. We went to breakfast and had that sinking feeling. The restaurant was just like a canteen and a free for all. There was plenty of food and it was very nice but far far too packed.
After breakfast we went to the pool and this is when we really got depressed. By 9.30am there was not a sunbed to be had and all the beds that there were were squashed in so tight you could not walk between them. Went out for the day and returned at 5.00pm to be greeted with music playing so loudly around the pool you could not hear each other speak (still no sun beds free) and people sitting with their feet dangling in the pool eating fish fingers and chips.
The evening meal was a little better and not such a free for all.
To cut a long story short we transfered to the Louis Imperial (about a mile away) and had a fantastic holiday (without the squash around the pool and lovely sunbeds with thick cushions). Still a 4 star but far far better.
On the plus side the staff at the Louis Phaethon were extremely helpful and it was clean but definately not for us.

we have just returned from the phaethon hotel and what a brilliant time we had ! we got married on the 11th and the staff from olympic and jason the food manager could not have been more helpful. it was better than we could ever have imagined! the food was brilliant throughout the holiday and rooms were very pleasant apart from the mosquitos! the kids staff were very entertaining and worked hard. the only problem was the time you had to wait for a drink, so if you are all inclusive, then it might be worthwhile oredering a few at a time!! would definetley stay here again!!

Jun 2008, Mrs L M LEWIS

having recently returned from the louis phaethon,we just wanted to say that we had a great time, although we felt very let down by first choice (they don't deal with all inclusive) which we weren't aware of until we arrived at the hotel and 99.9% of everyone that stayed there was all inclusive and it proved very expensive when ordering drinks.
our first impression was very clean and tidy and the staff were helpful.
our cases were bought up to the room about 10 mins after we arrived, we over looked the back of the hotel and the waterpark but still had a view of the sea which was lovely.
the room was adequate for the little time we spent in it and the cleaners came in every day to change the towels and bed linen (thankyou).
the only thing that would've been helpful in the room was a fridge as it very hot and we wanted cold water but we managed.
my husband and daughter went to the water park across the road,it was a nice place but they thought that it was a total rip off,the staff tried to charge them 15 euros for a locker and it was nothing special when they got in there.28 euros for an adult.
the food was very good, plenty of it and varied, watch out for stavros in the dining room you can't miss him.
what can we say about the animation team brill!!!!!!!!!!! dido, joe and all the others.we were sure that mika was one of them... hi everyone, thanks for the entertainment..
they were fantastic, bingo was very funny and watch out for the hypnotist.
it was a wonderfull holiday, the only thing that ruined it was the moaning, selfish brits that's why it was a shame we had to come back so if you want a non stop action holiday go to this hotel we will be going back next year.

This was my first trip to Cyprus and...
6 / 10
May 2008, Mrs B Crew

This was my first trip to Cyprus and I was very disappointed. This hotel was said to be 4star but frankly it should only be 3star at best. On arrival check in was quick and foyer looks good with comfy chairs. However, on going to our room on the third floor, it was very basic. We booked a three bedded room but the third bed was not made up. We arrived at 11pm after having a delay at Gatwick for over 5 hours, so we could not see our view until morning. The room size was just about large enough for 3 adults but did not have any of the niceties we had come to expect from 4star hotels. There was no fridge or mini bar, no soaps or shower gels or caps and the towels were very thin and worn. The bath had stains in it which looked as though the enamel was thin. Only once during our stay did we get a towel large enough to wrap round us. The room was cleaned every day and towels changed. However we had paid for a sea view - we did have one but our room being on the side, overlooked the bowling green and football pitch and then a load of scrubland and rubbish before the sea. Not what we expected at all. It would have been better to have a pool view as from there you could see the sea! The room was situated over the kitchens with an air conditioning unit (or generator) which hummed most of the night making it difficult to sleep. I can imagine that in the height of summer when one would need the patio doors open it would be worse. It is also on the flight path from Paphos airport.
The food was OK and usually something to suit all tastes. Desserts were usually gateaux, fresh fruit, creme caramel or bright green jelly. Guests did not have tables specifically allocated to them but were seated at dinner by waiters. All meals were buffet style.
The beach is non existent and the sign saying "to the beach 250m" leads you to a dirty beach with sand and sun loungers which are so grubby you won't want to sit on them and a man comes round to collect payment for them. We did walk along the beach area of the other hotels on this stretch and found that all of them had turned their "scrubland" into good grassy areas with nice plants and sunbeds for the guests , made a sandy beach and slabbed walkways. This hotel could take a look at them and do the same to make it better for their guests.
There is a good beach at Coral Bay with lots of sunbeds - however, it is better to get there early as by lunchtime all the sunbeds and umberellas have been taken.
The pools were clean and good size as was the jacuzzi. The daytime entertainment seemed good and well attended although we did not participate ourselves. Buses to Paphos were frequent and cost 1euro35. Taxi from hotel cost 8euros. We also walked it and it took about 40 mins. There is a shop in the hotel but supermarkets and other shops were about 10mins walk away. At the time we went the euro was worth about 80p so everything was a lot more expensive than we expected. Be warned also that shops show prices in euros and pounds but the pounds are Cyprus pounds not English pounds.
We were told also to buy our spectacles in Cyprus as they were very much cheaper than England but at this time they are not - for the little saving you make it is better to get them in England as if there is a problem you can always go back in England!
The evening entertainment left a lot to be desired. Very amateurist. It is performed by the staff - who to give them their due had worked all day so probably didn't have much time to practise- but definitely not up to standard. We went several nights as we felt it had to get better - it didn't - but gave us a laugh. The hotel would be advised to bring him some local talent from outside to improve the night entertainment. At the time we were there the hotel was overrun with French people who seemed to get preference at all times.
Overall we had a good holiday but I will not be going back to this hotel as there are many better ones along that stretch of road.

This is rated as a 4T but to be honest I think it's more like 3. First impressions good, grand entrance and quick check-in, however, felt the room was too small for family (2 adults, 1 child aged 2.5). The shower was appalling - kept going either too hot or too cold and actually scalded my son the first night - we did ask reception to look at it but did not seem to make a difference.
Had to phone for fresh loo rolls and towels a couple of times because although room was tidied and cleaned, fresh loo rolls and towels not always provided.
Food was good, but did get fed up with it after a few days - different choices but kind of felt similar each day - soup was lovely though.
Waiter service ok first few days but as hotel got busier, service got very slow.
Entertainment was ok, but felt kids stuff aimed at older kids, our son is 2.5 and not much for him at all - could not get into the club and although he enjoyed the disco at night, they kept playing games which he just didnt understand - would have preferred proper disco when they all just got to dance.
Some shows good (in particular Lion King) but some pretty awful - quite amateurish.
Beach not very sandy but actually perfect for us as our son just liked throwing stones in water!
Pool areas nice - indoor and outdoor.
Severe lack of public toilets inside hotel though - and the doors often did not lock. No baby changing so we ended up either doing it on a lounger (not ideal) or taking him back to our room which was miles away as we were in family block B.
All in all it was an ok holiday, but because our son was too young for clubs we did not get a much needed break, and even when we went back to room it felt claustrophobic. I would definitely not go back to this hotel with a child under 3 as they cannot join club, and am not too sure I'd go back at all. Perhaps we shall stick to Iberostars from now on!

Just spent a week at the Louis...
8 / 10
Apr 2008, Mr G Jones

Just spent a week at the Louis Phaethon. Family of 4 varying in age from 15 - 50.
The hotel is top notch. The rooms are of a good size and air conditioned. The pool is superb about 40 metres long and varies in depth from 0.5 metres to 3.3 metres. The pool is L shaped with the toddlers area partioned off with a metal frame. (No Life guards though). The facilities are 1st class. Indoor heated swimming pool, gym, games room. Activities include shooting, archery and the entertainments team have water competitions in the pool. No problems getting a sunbed.....they were plentiful.
The food is very good, with something for everyone. We were all inclusive and the only problem that we found were the ordering of drinks. The waiter service was somewhat slow!
B & B customers can upgrade (to all inclusive) for 29 euros a day while half board up grade costs 21 euros.
The night time entertainment is kids disco until 9 o'clock, followed by bingo (for about an hour) then a show. The shows were by the in house entertainment team and were amateurish. Could be improved by getting a couple of professional acts in during the week.
I did not pay the extra for a sea view and was placed at the back of the hotel. The view( at the back) of the hotel is not fantastic, and one of the staff must own a motorbike as I and my wife heard it most mornings around 7 O'clock. Paying the extra for a sea view may well be worth the money.
The hotel is on a flight line to Pathos airport. This is not really a problem though as only 1 to 3 flights a day landed. (Wednesdays did however seem to be particulary busy. 7 - 10 flights). And the noise was not horrendous. Did not notice any noise from night flights.
There is a bus stop outside the hotel that takes you into Pathos. The cost is 1.20 euros (about a £1) and the buses run every 20 minutes. However the buses stop at 6.30 at night and I was told the taxi fare would be about 10 euros for the 4.5 kilometre run into Pathos.
All in all the hotel is very good and apart from the slowness of the drinks service I would recommend this hotel for a good family holiday.
