Don't stay here!
Unless booking a package tour or somehow indirectly and paid in advance do NOT under any circumstances STAY HERE. The owner and the owner's son are dubious at best and cut throat gypsies at worst. The staff are kind, and the facilities plain but nice but the management are pirates. They even dress like pirates! The son will rip you off with a [--] grin while the owner teases you with crap jewelery for your girlfriend. DO NOT STAY HERE!
My favorite hotel in Egypt
We spent five nights here and didn't want to leave. It's a beautiful garden. Wonderful room with huge bathroom, great food, free Wi-Fi, beer for sale in the fridge. The owner, Ahmed, is so friendly and helpful. He has great advice on what to see and can arrange bike rental, taxi, etc for a good price. He'll even drive you in his own car if he has time. The hotel is on the West Bank of the river, which is quiet and still has plenty of good restaurants.
Ripped Off!!
My friends and i stayed at the Amon Hotel, not to be confused with the Gezira Hotel, in February. We were quoted a price before our stay but when we received the cost at the end of the week we were deeply shocked. We asked for a breakdown of the charges which the son of the owner, was unable to supply us with. For what we were charged for bed and breakfast we could have stopped all inclusive in the Old Winter Palace. He was unable to even justify the costs and we were not even able to receive a bill for our stay. It was a lovely Hotel and... more
Not a pleasant experience
The beginning of our stay was ok, but as we were leaving and received our bill we were quite shocked at the charges we received. They charged us double for the prices we had been quoted on our meals and had tacked on many things which we didn't recognize. When we discussed these charges with the owner's son he said they would "re-evaluate" these charges but the end was the same. Don't stay here. It is a beautiful place, but the help is not honest.
Horribly dishonest
This place is only for package tours, if you try to book directly as we did they rip you off for every amenity. The place itself is very nice especially the normal staff, but the owner and manager and all the higher staff are dishonest. They will lie to you about the prices and they will try to take as much money as they can. Do not stay here unless you do a package tour of some sort where you pay in advance. It made the first part of our experience in Egypt unpleasant.
Book elsewhere.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 days to visit Luxor. The hotel itself very nice initially. We paid for our stay in cash in advance as well as one day of transport with one of the hotel's "guides", in addition we ate two meal, when we checked out we received a ridiculous bill for 550 egyption pounds, which was more the stay itself. When we asked for them to explain the charges they treated us as if we'd accused them of stealing and acted outraged, and their attempts to calculat the total didn't add up. The price of the breakfast was... more
best food and nicest hosts in all of Egypt
We stayed at the Amon Hotel (not to be confused with the Amon el Gezira Hotel) the week of Christmas. We arrived late and were met at the train station by the proprietor's grown son, who took us across the river in a private water taxi and then back to the hotel in his father's car. After we had been shown to our room (the largest they had, as they weren't very busy), they offered us dinner. We were starving, and so even though we hadn't loved the food in Egypt up to that point, we accepted. They went on to serve us the most delicious meal... more
Laid Back Oasis
We stayed at Gezira Gardens for five nights and had a wonderful time. The location of this small hotel on the West Bank means it was a quiet escape from the chaos on the East Bank. We were travelling as two couples and found the apartments to be just what we needed: with the 2-BR apartments, you have a choice between a kitchen or two bathrooms, and for $55 US / night for either, the price is right! The multi-lingual staff at GG was very friendly and helpful, without constantly asking for baksheesh as is the norm in Luxor. We had to... more
Great place for kids!
We have just returned from Luxor and stayed at the Gezira gardens. It was recommended on these forums as a good place to stay. It has been slated on another travel forum, but these comments are unsubstantiated slander! We travelled independantly on a flight only ticket. I made the booking 6months in advance and wasn't required to pay any deposit, and only paid on my last days stay - $40 / night for an appartment with breakfast included ( rolls cheese/jam/'meat'/scramled+boiled eggs, hot drinks juice). Each appartment has 2 bedrooms, with 1... more
Great place to stay on the West Bank
Excellent place to stay on the West bank, away from the Hustle & Bustle of the East bank. Walking distance from public ferry. Great food. The apartments are clean & affordable. The Garden restaurant & swimming pool is well decorated & the owner Gamal Hassan goes out of his way to talk to clients & make sure that they are taken care of.
