put things in the safe
stayed for five days. would definately recommend to others as it is well located and cheap. I think my necklace was stolen from the room so put valuables in the safe provided. It is noisy too - but I can sleep through anything. I would go back here.
Bring ear plugs
Okay! If you want to stay there,be aware. There is 2 night clubs downstairs so even with ear plugs,we had problems to sleep. We booked on internet one private room with one double bed and got a private room with 2 separate bed.Since we had to pay in advance and the hotel was full we stayed there. The room was ok,floor (carpet) was dirty, bed linen seems clean and the shared bathroom was fairly clean but not cleaned everyday. We did not see any bugs or cockroaches(major problem in NY hostel). We wont go back there and the main reason is not... more
smelly stay
Upon my arrival, I noticed a terrible smell impregnating the 1st floor landing where was my room. For me, it was cats urine, but the clerck explained to me that it was "only" a problem with the sewer that would vanish overnight. Actually, the odor stayed the 3 nights and 3 days I spent there, hoping that it would not creep into my room. The room itself was quaint, dimlit and noisy ( the street ! ) albeit clean. Regarding the "included breakfast", it came under the guise of a voucher for the small shop down in the basement. It... more
Can't Beat the Price
We stayed for an extended weekend and can't wait to go back. At first the idea of sharing a bathroom seemed strange, but it was fine. 2 rooms are in an alcove area which is kept locked and only those 2 rooms use that one bathroom. I never even saw who resided in the other room, it was perfectly private and unintimidating. The room and bathroom were clean, artsy, and with that rustic charm. It's not the Ritz, but then again, the price isn't the Ritz either. The location was great, so much to do in the area. The treats for breakfast... more
Pleasantly Surprised
After I made my reservations, I decided to read the reviews. Despite what they said, I kept them. My husband and I were pleasantly surpirised. There are no rooms specifically non- smoking so that was my biggest fear, but the room smelled fine. The location was excellent and convenient to cabs and the subway. Our room was on the first floor facing the street, but we felt completely safe. The staff was very helpful in recommending places to eat and even let us stay an hour past checkout with no additional charge. The only problem with the... more
Thousand Missed Words from a Photo
Me and my friends chose the Chelsea Inn for its great location and good rates however after the trouble we endured, if I visit NYC again I will NOT stay here. The establishment is definately not even near decent conditions and the workers wern't helpful or nice. On our last night, the bathroom on the fourth (might have been fifth) floor flooded, sending dirty yellow water down our bathroom walls and we had leave towels all over certain areas of the floor to sop it up. The hotel didnt even apologize for the inconvenience. the WORST... more
The front desk lady told my daughter I was a b%!#@
I will never forget my stay there and will make is very clear to everyone I know to not stay at the Chelsea Inn hotel. This hotel does not even deserve a half a star. The bathrooms were disgusting, my room smelled like smoke. There was no assistance with your bags that you had to carry up 2 - 5 flights of steps that were about 20 steps long. The people working there were unhelpful and beyond rude. If you want a deal go to the Chelsea Star. A world of diffence but the same price as the Chelsea Inn
Be warned about this place
Be slightly warned. It is cheap and you get what you pay for! It is clean. However, the air conditioning is noisy (it didn't work in one of the 2 rooms we hired). The air conditioning was installed by cowboys as they do not fit the window properly; the result is that all the noise from the 2 nightclubs beside the Chelsea Inn are clearly heard. They say that new York never sleeps - I can vouch for that. The noise during the night is terrible. There is no double glazing. The biggest problem is the drains. Twice our toilet... more
Go Elsewhere!
We booked at the Chelsea for its cheap rooms--I booked in April, when a room was advertised for $89. When I called I was told that the Web site hadn't been updated yet but that the new price was $99 + tax. Some info about conditions in our room: the lamps didn't work. The drain in the sink was backed up. The tub in the shared bath did not drain--so we got to stand in other people's dirty bath water. No one is at the front desk after 9pm, so you're on your own if something doesn't work. Staff did not accurately write down how many... more
Keep looking for other options
I decided to book here in Feb 2007. I had seen the average reviews but decided to ignore them at my peril! Yes the hotel is cheap for NYC, excellently located and the staff friendly and helpful. But like a previous reviewer I could not get past the smell. The room was clean but the furniture fairly tired and stained. Again, the bathroom was clean but taps dripped etc. Combined with the all pervading smell of must/drains, the result was an unpleasant rundown feeling. As someone who prefers 'character' accommodation to bland chains, in... more
