Smack dab in the Middle -
Stayed in room 211-freshly done in blue/white toile with rose Roman shades/spread.Bath fixtures new, clean, working. tiny but comparable and similiar to hotels in Rome, Florence, Paris. Efficient use of available space. Be aware Queen size bed is actually standard double but the are Sheets soft and clean, water hot, staff willing--if you spend your time in your hotel room when traveling stay elsewhere but if you need a convenient, cozy to the max and affordable pied et terre in NYC stay here-Right smack in the middle of everything--save... more
Very disappointing
I booked the flight and hotel through Site 59. I've always been very happy with the accomodations when I've booked with Site 59 and expected the same this time. Boy was I disappointed. The Mayfair is a tiny hotel. It is also very old and rundown, although the owner is in the process of making many improvements. As one other reviewer said, the elevator is very small. No more than 3 people will fit. The rooms are incredibly small, measuring no more than 10X8. There is barely enough room to walk on either side of the bed. The bathrooms... more
Very Small but Very Convenient
Reserved a room here because the price was great. The room was by far the smallest I've ever stayed in, but I didn't really care about that. The location is so good there's no reason to hang out in the room. The bathroom was somewhat recently renovated and was nice but, like the room, was very small. I do have two complaints. First, there was no iron in the room and it took over 12 hours for one to show up at the front desk. Seriously, irons do not cost much money and should be present in every room. Second, my 14 inch television only got... more
Great Hotel, great price, excelent location
The Mayfair Hotel is a great hotel. Very good location. Right in the heart of times square. The bathroom is ok. Not as good as most hotels in the city. Bathrooms are old. The shower can only really fit one person not two. If your there for your hunnemoon, I would not recomened it. If your there as a tourist looking for a good hotel buy to check out NYC, and have a good holiday weekends. Sure buy this hotel. The bathrooms are not dirty at all, there very clean. Ask for a room in the back of the hotel, facing into the alley. Very quiet. If you... more
Thought it was great
I took the bus from Baltimore in November of 2002 and had no problems finding this conveniently located hotel..in the middle of EVERYTHING. We were too early to check in but hotel staff offered to keep our bags and gave us all sorts of city guides and helped us find out way around. When we returned about 4pm, the room was ready and although it was small..you should see the apartments people in NYC live in, the bathroom was HUGE and brand new..I loved it..everything a girl could ask for..toiletries were provided as was a... more
Primo Location
Really enjoyed the Mayfair - staff friendly and helpful, rooms clean and commodious. Convenient to subway and short walk to theatres and restaurants. Tremendous value. Was slightly disappointed that the bistro was being rennovated, though. I know where to stay in Midtown now!
Horrendous, Horrendous, Horrendous!!
The rooms are a horendous! There was a hole in the wall, the room is smaller than an average closet! This place has no charm, no taste and certainly no designer!! It was a dreadful stay.
Won't stay here again
Seemed like a quaint place, but there were problems from the start! I asked for a bathtub and got a shower. When I entered the 2nd room, the AC was on, and it was one of the coldest days of the year. The heat was minimal, my bathtub was by a drafty window, and the hot water gave it up when the tub was half full. The desk person attempted to cover the window with a blanket, then a towel, meanwhile my 2nd attempt at a bubble bath got colder. After my stay, attempts at calling the manager for a discount of some sort got me nowhere. The carpets... more
This is the ONLY hotel we will ever stay at in new york
We reserved a room here based on location and price, but fell in love with the charm of it! We are even postponing our Valentines Day trip so that we can stay here since they are booked on that weekend. We found the hotel to be beautiful, and the staff more than willing to help you with anything you might need. They made our stay wonderful! Although the rooms are smaller than most hotels, they were very clean and comfortable, and what I would expect at such a quaint hotel. If you want more individual attention than you would get at a typical... more
