Worst Hotel I have ever stayed at in my life
Chelsea Hotel was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I ended up staying in three rooms over my four night stay. The first room was distrusting. It was tiny, which was fine, but it had hair in the sink and very old tub. The rug was filthy and the furniture ugly and old. The thought of showering in it made me sick. The plugs didn't work and even when I got there the remote was upside down and the battery cover off. No one even bothered to cover up that there was no batteries in the remote and at least put the cover on. I was... more
Old and crappy
Totally gross! Ok fine so they use old furniture to keep the place with the feel of when stars stayed there. But, at least clean the place. The bathroom was dirty with dust and hair from previous tenants (maybe it was from a famous star). They must spend all that maid service money on artwork. However, they did have nice toilteries and extras so you can stock up on that. I stayed there a few days and would have checked out after 1 day but prebooked. I tried to stay out late and just crash in the room. There was a eerie feeling about the... more
The Shabby Chelsea
I had a bad feeling when I booked our room at the Chelsea Hotel. I was given a confirmation number but not an email stating what we had discussed (my error, get your confirmation in writing). I reserved a queen bed and told them my son would be with me. Stanley, the manager, said he was giving me a "deal" for $225 a night. When I asked about the cancellation policy. Stanley said indignantely, "Why would you want to cancel, I just gave you a deal at $225 a night!" When we arrived at the Chelsea, Stanley was yelling on the phone to a... more
Interesting...!
This is probably the strangest hotel I've ever stayed at....and although I thoroughly enjoyed the experience I probably wouldn't want to repeat the experience. Reception staff varied in friendliness. The room was a decent size for New York, with really nice pieces of furniture, and a lovely long sprig of fresh orchid in a vase on the writing table. Thankfully the bed which was massive and very comfortable was new! Bathroom was clean with nice toiletries and lots of fluffy white towels. The room was warm - but they do seem to have a major... more
Remember backpacking in Europe in the 60's?
Hotel is nothing like the intranet site inside, small, damp, noisy pipes. Yes for 1 night I remembered Spain in 1968! Extreamly overpriced and watch for the immediate credit card debit 2 mins after you arrive for entire stay!
Other peoples hair.......
I have traveled to many third world countries and would say that, for the price, this was the worst place I have ever stayed. Other peoples hair, etc. in room...no key to room, fumes, filth. Bait and switch on quoted room rate at the end to add to the pain. Staff was unaccomodating with poor excuses in place of service. I had a nicer stay at a Rodeway Inn.
Special experience
This is a very special and interesting. Don't expect any high standards. We got a very basic room, but with a great view over the city. Some staff was extremely friendly, others were very unpolite. When we left our luggage there, they refused to give us a receipt :( Overall: Very special, feels very New York, will never forget the special atmosphere. Probably will go there again.
You Can Check Out - But You Can Never Leave!
So sang The Eagles with Hotel California, but they had written those words to express their own feelings about the Chelsea. This "review" is one of pure nostalgia, as the Chelsea was my home in the '60's. Needless to say I was a mere child! I slept in Mick Jagger's bed - oh, okay, Mick had vacated the room the previous week, I also missed Bob Dylan who was my hero - and still is! Andy Warhol lived there at the time, but I never met him, as did George Kleisenger, famous composer, I recall going to see his<br... more
Unique - absolutely loved it
I stayed at the Hotel Chelsea in December 2003 for several nights. With the Bob Dylan and other artistic associations it's been a long-standing ambition and I wasn't disappointed. I've driven in 46 states and stayed in dozens of hotels of all types. Believe me - Hotel Chelsea is quite unique. We stayed on the first floor at the back of the hotel. The room was larger than most with failed aspirations of grandure and a few homely touches you'd find in run-down motels. Though it was snowing outside, the room was wonderfully warm with huge... more
Stayed one night recently
Where can I begin stayed Thanksgiving night. Had artistic expectations and they were all met. This is one of the strangest places I've ever been. ANd I was alittle nervous staying here. Would suggest only stay for one night. Think you would only want to stay here if you were interested in its history and knew about the hotel ( we were ). Anyway ultimately I'd stay away nice to say you spent a night here but thats it. The place is living off its historical past and capitalising on it. DOWNSIDE : The staff were useless simple. We had... more
