High rates, small room, bad service
The hotel charged me on avg 150 per night for a one double bedroom with no private bathroom. We had to share the bathroom with some 8 other rooms and that meant that we sometimes had to wait 30min to be able to use it. The phone was not working and we lost for 2 consecutive nights the wake up call. After arguing for the 2nd time at the reception they agreed to knoch on my door for the remainder of the stay. The cleaning crew knocks and storms in your room at around 10am. The only defense you have is to lock that special mechanism... more
No mirror in the room!
My husband and I stayed on the 7th floor in a SMALL double bed room. We knew we would be sharing a bathroom with other rooms which was not really a problem because we were up early BUT, I felt badly that I was unable to do my hair/makeup in our room because there was NO MIRROR! That would have made the room much more usable! IT was a VERY clean bathroom and the hotel was well kept. Another negative was there was a CAT that lived in the room at the end of the hallway and it was in the hall. (I am allergic to cats). It was in a quiet... more
not bad
Not bad for last minute stay in the city. Close to Subway which was nice. Room and bathroom were clean but would have preferred private bathrooom.
Great value for the price
A group of 5 of us (one room with 2 double beds, one room with 1 double bed) stayed here a few days last week, and found it to be most comfortable. It's true what the reviews say about there being a lack of personal washrooms, but it never really slowed us down during our stay there. There was maybe 1 washroom per 5 or 6 rooms, and 3 per floor, so if the nearest one was occupied, we could try any of the other ones on the floor (or even on other floors). The washrooms were quite clean, and attended to by the cleaning staff daily. The... more
Hotel Alexander great for the price!!!
Great hotel for the price!! My friend and I stayed here for 5 nights and must admit we were a little concerned after reading some of the reviews. But the hotel is in a nice clean safe neighborhood. It's a 5 min walk to Broadway and 94th which is right where the subway is. Rooms are clean and the bathrooms were always free and always very clean. New York is a place that you don't go to to stay in your room. So if you want a clean place to rest your head then stay here!! We will definitely stay here again!!
Bad experience
The stuff is unfriendly and unhelpul. The rooms and the bathrooms are nothing special and the rates are high for what they offer.
Great place to stay
My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Alexander from 15 to 22 August 2007 and had a great time. Our room was clean and tidy, (cleaned every day) had a nice, comfortable queen sized bed, air-conditioning, a TV, dresser and bedside table, as well as good luggage storage space. We also got clean towels every day which was great (although the quality of these towels deteriorated over the days, but no big stress). The room was small, but since we're normally backpackers staying in hostels, we were excited to be able to afford a nice clean room to... more
good price, good location
I spent three nights at Hotel Alexander. You get what you pay for. The room was average size by New York standards and very clean. The shared bathrooms were always clean. The room itself was clean and neat, and well cleaned every morning. They provided clean towels, soap and shampoo every day. The hotel is in a nice residential-type neighborhood, with the 1,2,& 3 subway only a block and a half away on Broadway. There are several restaraunts and a couple twenty-four hour drugstores near by. The only problem I had was with the... more
Excellent Location
Hotel Alexander is based in West 94th Street just of West End Avenue. One thing which you will notice is that all receipts you will get will say Ohryakar Hotel, I was told that it was an appartment before then converted into a hotel then was taken under new management. My stay was with one of my friends between July 15th - July 23rd 2007. I booked a twin single room, it did not really look like there was much space. Just as I was getting settled into the room which I had stayed for just one night, me and my friend just came back with... more
Ok, but nothing fancy
When we arrived the hotel didn't have our reservation and showed no interest in helping us out. They also claimed to be fully booked. We ended up having to call hotels.com with our international phone trying to get them to help us. Once they had gotten a fax from hotels.com they agreed to check us in but since they didn't have the room type we had asked for they put us in a different type. The receptionist did not apologize at all. We were quite frustrated at this point.... However it has to be said that the hotel manager called us to... more
