The Westin Key West Resort & Marina

This hotel is in a great location. The cruise ships dock and leave almost everyday, but they are not really a problem. Watching the sunset at this hotel is awesome. The pool area is small and there is no breeze at all, so it can become quite hot while relaxing in a lounge chair. The poolside service is excellent. I just returned from a two night stay here. I thought the resort was overpriced, just not a good value for the dollar spent. Nothing particularly "wrong" with it, just a very "corporate" atmosphere, which is not what most people look for in Key West. My rate, including tax, was $200 per night. In June 2004 my husband and I stayed at the Hilton Resort and Marina in Key West, FL. We travel often, and have always heard great things about the Florida Keys, so decided to visit for a few days on our vacation. Upon our arrival, we were immediately disappointed with this hotel. The room was very "Ritzy", I expected this though for the price. At a "Bar-Restaurant" that overlooked the water, My wife and I ended up wait twice for about 5 minutes for service by the bartender to refill our drinks while he was flirting with a couple girls. Having traveled ALOT in europe(every country except portugal) we never expected this hotel to place two different holds on our credit card in addition to the cost of the room all totaling $1600 for a 2 night stay. Upon arrival at the hotel, the reception desk was more than happy to accomodate our request for an early check-in. They even called our cellphone when the room was ready. We entered what was to be the nicest room we had ever stayed in (thanks to an unexpected upgrade). We had 2 full bathrooms, a surround-sound stereo system, and 2 private balconies overlooking Mallory Square and the ocean. We just returned from a four night Memorial Day at the Hilton Key West. We loved our Hilton Key West experience. We had a lovely ocean front room and were not at all bothered by the cruise ships. The pool area and sunset deck are both wonderful. The service was also very good. The beds very comfortable. The breakfast restaurant is a bit slow. The ships arrive around 7 AM and leave by 6 PM. They pay more to stay through sunset. Your view can be of a cruise ship when you wake up. Friday had no ship. Sat-Monday the ships alternated... more

Although this Hilton facility was nice and modern, it lacked a resort quality sense. The front desk and other ammenities are housed in a separate facility. The food at the restaurants was moderately priced and delicious. Largest problems is that the Hilton is located right at the portal to the cruise ship launch, and as such, you are subject to viewing the throngs of visitors that come into Key West each day. Waterfront rooms are not worth the money as the docked cruise ships most often block the view.

Just returned from our first visit to Key West and the Hilton was the best choice we made. The service was excellent from the minute we arrived at the bell hop stand to the minute we left. The room was comfortable and clean and had a view of Mallory Square (the Hilton end). Unlike another reviewer, we enjoyed seeing a new ship each morning when we came down for breakfast. My husband and I stayed at the Hilton for five nights the first week in May. We loved Key West but the Hilton is NOT worth the money. When we arrived after ten hours of traveling, we were met with the rudest front desk people I have ever dealth with. There was a problem with our reservation and the manager could have cared less if we had to sleep in the street. This is after paying over $1700.00 to stay at this place.
