Good Hotel
from 00Ness
Just back from a week in Rhodes staying at the Belair in Ixia. Did read reviews before we left and I have to say the food aspect was worring as we had booked half board so I'll start with that. No need to worry as the choice was excellent, the food was always hot and replaced before the dishes were empty, not left for ages that has happened in other hotels I've stayed in. The presentation was good and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is situated a little to the Rhodes end of the resort so if you had problems walking it could take a little time to walk to the shopping arcade at the other end of Ixia. The rooms are very clean and not at all small, we had 2 twins and 1 single (that was in fact a double). The pool area was clean and well tended and had quite a few sunbeds although this was the start of the season and in high summer you might be without a bed or shade if you didn't get down early enough. The beach is shingle and not all that nice we stayed around the pool rather than cross a very busy road which you have to do to get to it. I would worry if I had children with me as we found it difficult to cross the road. There is a bus stop outside the hotel so getting around the Island was very easy to do and the reception staff were again very helpful and informative. All in all we five had a great week at the Belair and if you are going to Ixia then why not try it yourself.
Don't understand the bad reviews

I don't understand the bad reviews I have read about this hotel. I had one of my best holidays here. The rooms were spacious, nicely decorated, v comfortable and v clean, with a fridge, air-conditioning (Sept) and a large balcony, most of which overlook the pool or sea. Ours had a fabulous sunset every night. The staff were really nice and friendly. The reception bar and pool area were lovely and certainly felt 4 star to me. There were always sun-lounges available, not something I have experienced everywhere, and the pool although a little cold was large and clean. The beach is only across the road and the sea is warm in Sept. There was little current and large waves (due to the constant breeze) which made it great salf and fun to swim / play in. It is sensible to walk up the Hilton to cross the road as it can be quite busy, but was only a short distance and no hardship. I agree the ‘restaurant’ was not the best! Again the staff were lovely but there were no views, it could be quite stuffy and the food was very basic egg and chips / pasta stuff, certainly not 4 star. That said nobody forces you to eat there! There are loads of restaurant about five minuets up the road for all tastes and pockets. (turn left outside the hotel) We ate out every night just because there were so many places to try and it was so cheap we could easily afford it. We also went next door for our pool snacks as it was just as easy as eating at the hotel bar, but the food was twice and tasty for the same price. Rhodes its-self was beautiful (much nicer then Crete where we were the year before) and I’d have gone again this year if it hadn’t been booked out!
Don't go there

The plan was to stay at the Bel Air from the 28th of september until the 12th of october. The food was terrible. Every two days the same menu. From the meat to the fish and vegetables, everything had the same funny taste. This was caused by preservatives. The food was luke warm and the vegetables cooked to snot. The only things that were edible, were the things from the saladbar. We were forced to become instant vegetarians because we like to keep our health. Breakfast was bad too. Old, stale bread, eggs and ham floating in fat and scrambled eggs you wouldn´t wish upon your worst enemy. The meat-products, cheese and fruit came straight out of tins and packages. Only the Greek yoghurt, nuts and honey seamed fresh. The rooms were very basic and the beds are just terrible. Thin mattresses and what was supposed to be the mattressbed excisted of thick wooden planks. Our body´s started to ache after two days and the hotel couldn´t give us a proper solution. We had to cut our holliday short and return home because of the fysical damage. We met a lovely lady there with rheumatism and osteoporoses. We asked her what the bed did for her body and she told us that the beds were agony and that she had cried during several nights. We asked her why she didn´t complained to the hotelstaff. She was afraid to. She was an elderly woman and that is the bad part, that there is being praid upon non assertive people. Why this hotel has a four star rating, is a complete mistery to us. We did complain and we will ask our travelagent for our money back. The only good thing about this hotel is the staff. Those are hard working people, very hospitable and always a smile on their faces. They are the ones who deserve a four star rating. Anyone who says this is a good hotel, must have it really bad at home.
Not bad at all

Me and a fried spent a week in Rhodes and the hotel choice was not based on direct information. That's why we were a bit afraid of finding a bad hotel, fit to spoil our vacation. But this hotel is more than nice :-). Good points: nice staff, great rooms (quite big, kept clean daily), large and well furnished bathroom, close to the beach, close to the bus station (you can go anywhere on the island with the bus), good restaurant. Bad points: pool area is not sunny in the morning or in the evening (early birds are best served on the beach) and the pool smells funny. Hints: if you go on the beach do not forget "shoes" for walking on the rocky area when you go in the sea; walk a bit to the right on the beach - the sand is better than the one on the area just in front of the hotel; do not be afraid to take the bus (it's ceap and it comes on time); chairs are not free of charge on the beach (3.5euro per chair).
Wonderful, holiday spent here****

My family (Husband myself daughter 17yrs and son 13yrs)have just returned from holidaying at the Belair Beach Hotel for two weeks in July (Half-Board)arrived 19th July until 2nd August 2006. Had read reviews but decided to make our own decision and are we so glad we did! All staff at the Hotel were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble to them, reception staff, "restaurant staff especially" and the ladies who cleaned the rooms. Food at the Hotel was very good plenty of choice every day excellent range of food, fresh salads, cheeses loved their different choices of fresh breads. Every evening there was a choice of three or more different dishes. Wines very good choice all staff were most courteous and out to make your stay a very pleasant one. Rooms (both) had wonderful views of both swimming pool and beach, maid service daily, towels were changed daily. Air conditioning worked wonderfully during a particularly hot spell of weather. Good spacoius pool (even allowed lilos) cleaned every morning and no shortage of sunbeds or sun the sun dissapeared behind the hotel about 6pm in the evening this suited us as we had to leave then to get ready for our evening meal served from 7pm. poolside cafe had good choice of snacks and again staff were excellent. Belair Hotel is just three bust stops out of Rhodes town itself and this area proved to be much cheaper to purchase goods than in Rhodes town itself. On our first night we came across the LUNA Bar/ Restaurant ran by a Greek/Canadian family (Spartalis)our thanks to Steve, Nick and Becky for making our visits there very enjoyable this was a wonderful location and we paid many visits here and I certainly recommend thier Apple Pie and Irish Coffees. My Kids enjoyed using their Internet facilities. Next door to this bar is Steves wife Natasha's Arts and Crafts Gallery with wonderful presents on show to take home at very good prices. There is a busy road to cross to get to the beach but this is no problem, plenty of watersports on offfer our son learnt to Windsurf at the Surfer's Paradise which was excellent our thanks to Giovanni who had great patience. There is a supermarket within the complex and a bus stop just right outside. We all had a wonderful holiday at this Hotel / Resort and hope to return again
Great Holiday at the Bel air Beach Ixia

Have just returned from 7 days at the Bel Air Beach. Dispite reading previous reviews, we found all the staff polite and very helpful. The food selection in the restaurant was limited but well presented and enjoyable for a 3*plus. The room was clean towels changed daily. Would have been nice if the air conditioning had been on in May. Views from our room were excellant. We will be returning soon. Birkinshaw family, Derby England

Have read reviews that other customers have had difficulties at the belair i thought l would add my penny's worth. l can't belive that things have not changed since we were there in 2001. l would agree that some of the staff were very rude, especially in the dining room. The manager in the dining room always seemed to be smoothing over complaints especially about one particular waiter. The manager was a pleasant sort. The food was dreadful, although we were impressed with the very clean room, fridge and good airconditioning. If l was to go again l would stay here but just get flight only and book the hotel B+B ,then eat out at night. The Blue Note cafe/bar near Trianda just made our holiday as we were able to go there to listen to superb saxaphone playing. We enjoyed our holiday immensely but avoid half board at any cost!!!
never again

My friend and I stayed at the bel air beach hotel in Ixia Rhodes. The hotel was spotlessly clean the staff were very friendly. I read a review on this hotel before I went to Ixia and it said it was a most unappealing hotel I did not find this the case. It was very nice. We had half board and I must admit I did not like the food very much so sometimes we ate out. The pool in the afternoon became shady and the road to the beach was extremely busy.
On a recent trip to this Hotel, we were unfortunate to book online, through Bookable Holidays, with this Hotel. , On arrival from the Airport, having my partner's luggage left in Gatwick before the start of our Holiday, we were greeted at reception by a very friendly... more
