Sunrise Tropical Resort

The hotel is fantastic with very friendly staff, a nice pool and very confortable rooms (we stayed in the tropical villa plus). Really enjoyed the outside shower although it could have done with slightly warmer water. The restaurant was generally good with helpful staff. Apologies if this sounds overly dramatic (it's not intended to) but it was a really disappointing experience for us after reading so many positive reviews on this site. Admittedly the resort is nice and the rooms (esp Tropical Villa Plus) are well equipped and luxurious (the outdoor showers are something special), BUT the construction around Railey Beach really ruins the atmosphere... As we traveled in November in Asia and Oceania, we stoped 4 nights in Krabi and choosed Sunrise Tropical Resort for Railey Beaches. We've booked for our honeymoon a Villa Plus which had an outdoor shower (but protected with walls!). Bungalow was large, clean, comfortable and really nice fitted, with satellite TV. Floor was wood "Teck" and bathroom was nice. But there was noise sometimes in the day as the power generator worked for a few hours just at the back. Staff was very kind and helpful. This is such a lovely hotel. The location, on Railay East is perfect for two of the best beaches we went to in Thialand - Phra Nang is incredible and a 10 minute walk, and Railay West beach is a five minute stroll (admittedly this is through a building site, but shouldn't be for long). As for the hotel, the rooms are beautiful (each independent villa has its own porch, lovely decor and great bathrooms - unusual for thailand). The throughout positive comments on the hotels homepage and in this forum encouraged us to book one week of our Thailand trip at the Sunrise Tropical. Maybe our expectations have been quite high, but our experience at the Resort has been a really disappointing one. The beach in front of the hotel turned out to be an absolute disaster, especially during low tide when you could see that it is covered with building rubble, litter and the like. Adjacent to the resort (and all around) is a huge construction side, many new houses and villas... more

hi there,having just returned from a 3 week trip to thailand,which included 5 days on railay beach,l felt so angry as to why no one mentioned the building on railay beach...the walk from the eastside to the westside of railay which is maybe 100mtrs,is a smelly,dusty building site,you have to dodge between earth moving equipment and it quite dampens the idea of paradise watching thai workmen and women toiling in the heat for a pittance wage...the building work is construction not reconstruction due to the tsnami..the work starts at 8.00am... more

The best part of this resort is the tropical Villa plus room. Nice bathroom and clean room. The restaurant is just ok and the swimming pool a big let down. East railway beach is dirty and the big generator from Rayavadee is really loud. This place is good as a base for some trips to James Bond Island, Phi Phi , Poda and Chicken Island. If you prefer luxury resort then try The Central Krabi or Tubkaak.

We stayed at Sunrise for five days. The rooms (tropical villa plus) were spacioius, well laid out, clean and the outdoor shower is a really nice touch. Outside the walls though, the story is different. The area sorrounding the villas, pool and restaurant is quite messy and not kept clean (poolside, footpaths etc). In addition the hotel is situated really close to the main harbour and main footpath across the island. This means some noise from longtail boats and lots of traffic in general. Very nice property and the Villa Plus room was great. THere was no complaint about anything at this property and the staff was very helpful and nice. The size of the room and quality of the construction was very good. We chose a room close to the pool (1002) and found it a good location with a slight seaview although the longtails could be heard. Our family (2A/2C) stayed in a Tropical Villa Plus for 4 nights in July 2006 - this was our second stay. Previously in July '04. We absolutely loved the resort. Whilst it is situated on Railay East, this in no way means you are 'away' from anything. It is a 5 minute walk along a well lit footpath to the West beach & 10 minutes to the beautiful Phra Nang beach.
