Clean, good food, close to everything
We were very happy with our stay! The room was small, but very clean. The bathroom was very clean, too, with good water pressure and LOTS of hot water (unlike the other place we stayed while in England). The breakfast was just what the other reviewers have said (my husband LOVED all that food every morning), and the folks that run the place had very good directions and suggestions for what to see and do in the area. They even helped us find a chemist still open on a Sunday night! The area it's in feels very safe and homey, and it's not... more
Nice serviceable choice
Took my college freshman daughter for a week in London (her first trip) on her spring break Mar 12-18. Ridgemount Hotel turned out to be a good choice. Tube station (Goodge Street) was a three minute walk. British Museum a similar distance down the street. The room was a pleasant surprise. Rather roomy by European standards, it was clean and well maintained. The bathroom was very adequate, and also spotless. The breakfast was a cut above my experience in London hotels. Cereal, juice, coffee or tea were just the starters.... more
damn stairs!
breakfast good. not sure about quality of bedsheets. got a bit of an itch. central enough to covent garden.dont go for top floor unless you are there for the marathon
Great location. Very helpful management
Location is perfect - we flew in via Stanstead and out of Gatwick and it was the perfect location for easy access to both trains. .. as well as a simple walk to many of the main attractions in cental London. Most helpful staff - they could not have done more to help. Good "English" breakfast. Rooms a bit small - but look what you pay and who travels to stay in a hotel room. Unfortunaltely no lift so take care not to have eavy bags and be on the top floor.
The Ridgemount. Hard to beat!
Just returned from The Ridgemount Hotel. It is the best value for money in London. Handy to the buses and tubes, very comfortable, filling cooked breakfast, wonderful helpful hosts (Mr & Mrs Rees) and above all SPOTLESSLY CLEAN! The rooms maybe a bit dated but it gives the feeling of staying in someone's home and being an old building you really get the feel of London.
Excellent value!
I spent 3 nights over Labor Day weekend at the Ridgemount hotel and would definitely stay here again. My room, #2, was a single en suite at the top of the first stairwell, facing the back of the building. I didn’t have problems with noise except during the day, when I could hear the front door buzzer quite clearly. The room was really small – maybe 7’ x 7’ (the twin bed ran the width of the room) – but the high ceiling and the window taking up one wall were nice. The room contained a tall, narrow wardrobe, a chair and a... more
Pleasant Stay
The Ridgemount has a lot of things going for it - good price, great location, friendly staff. Overall we had a good stay. The only negatives were the small room (taller than it was wide, by far) and the somewhat thin walls. But if you are looking for budget accomodations, these are very minor quibbles with an otherwise very pleasant place to stay. Recommended!
Great value
We stayed for five nights at the Ridgemount after MUCH review of this website. It was a great choice. Great value. We had an en-suite room. The room was small, but that is not what you are there for. The bathroom and room were very clean. The breakfast was a typical English breakfast and I am hooked on Frosties with English milk. The hotel is very walkable to most everything with plenty of tube options nearby. We would definitely stay here again.
Lovely
Immaculately clean, delicious breakfast, charming owners and staff. Some of the rooms are small, but that is to be expected considering the house was built (as a private home) over 250 years ago. The house backs on to a pretty garden and fronts on to Gower Street, which leads you straight to the British Museum. I honestly dont think that one can find a more friendly or Central hotel in London for the money.
Good Choice
I stood for one night in a Twin room at the Ridgemount. I can recommend this hotel, everything was OK. Staff was friendly and helpful, Location of the hotel is quite central, near to Soho, just 5 minutes walk to next subway station, room was very clean, size was also OK, bathroom was very clean and so small like in other london hotels in this price range, english breakfast was OK. Our room was on the streetside, which gave some noise in the evening even with the second window closed, but in the night it was OK. So for this price it is good... more
